I've alwayz loved the movie the wall, but I really couldn't ever name more than a few songs, but I still new if a song was by them or not usually. I doubt there's a connection to POE's hello, because the official lyrics for "IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE" is "Is there anybody out there?" repeated like five times. BUT, they do have an echo of "Hello, Hello, Hello...." in the background on the movie and the CD, so who knows? POE does, maybe some other ppl if it's true that it was some inspiration for HELLO, but who can tell? I have the movie in the VCR as we speak (no I don't own it, weirdest coincidence that I had it rented and had finished watching it 2 min before I got the original Pink Floyd message) but I'm not gonna sit thru it a third time to look for the song. If anyone wants the lyrics to a song by PF, mail me. This is my first post so I apologize to anyone I offend for what its worth. I have no intention of discussing my religious beliefs. I do however wish to express the value I place on religious discussion. It is better to debate an issue without resolve than to resolve an issue without debate. That pretty much sums it up. Whereas religion is the quickes way to piss someone off, there are a few open minded people that will get pissed off and then consider what has been said. I don't know if I'll ever be satisfied with any sort of explinatoin of any religion. So far science is looking pretty good. But if someone can point out contradicions in my beliefs so be it!! Thank you! >Jeff - ---------------------------------------- in response: 1) I believe this is the first time someone has recommended (or begged) that a conversation be stopped before it started. 2) Many many APs did try to stop the smoking debate, unfortunately it didn't help much. 3) I think we do already have some guidelines on what is and is not appropriate to discuss on this list (amato?). I personally do not want to read 50 emails on religious views, and I figured that 95% of the people on this list wouldnt want to either. 4) not gonna flame you jeff. We have discussed many times over what is and is not appropriate to talk about publicly on this list. The fact is, we are never ever going to come up with something that every person is happy with. Some people on this list would be happy if they were notified every time someone on the list farted. Some people want to read nothing but information about Poe. Most people fall somewhere in between like me. That is why I "made a movement" (not mandated!) that we not start a religious discussion. I thought most people would feel the same way and not want to discuss that topic on this list. If I was wrong, and people do want to discuss their religious beliefs, then go right ahead and I'll keep one finger on the delete key for the next week. I was surely not trying to act like I control what is discussed on this list, I apologize if it came off that way. emily >> At 01:43 AM 6/13/97 -0500, you wrote: >> >OK... regarding xero's question... I feel that we need to help out as much as we can. There are over 300 people on the list, so I don't think it will be a problem to raise money for THE LIST FUND. I have talked with Anthony Amato, and I will be collecting the funds for the new disk. If everyone on the list sent 2.00 we would have extra, but seeing as everyone won't send 2.00, it should work out. Send what you can (like between 2-5 bucks..), Cash or Money orders (made payable to Jeff Wasilko) to: AP LIST FUND c/o Jim Myers PO BOX 1053 Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 44223 I will post this or a similar message two to three times a week. WHoever started it never said you had to respond to the whole list (sorry bout that.. :P) so respond to them alone, they wanted to kno. WE don't have to get into huge flames, but if you want to respond about something, do it, and if you want to flame or stop a conversation, don't read about it in the first place. IF it's something that could start a "war" then mail the interested people, and everyone else be open-minded. We shouldn't have any guidelines, and we shouldn't flame because of someone's opinion. IF this list is going to jump down someone's throat for bringing up a controversial subject, then Why should a lot of us want to be on it? Religion is a touchy area for some people, so don't get involved if it is, but don't keep the people who do want to talk about it from doing so. IF I wanted to bring up Capital Punishment and the Mcveigh trial, I'd get flamed, people would fight, and later when someone brings up capitol punishment, they'd be told "Drop it." When I don't think they should be. Fine. Say what you want. Put guidelines on the list, pretty soon anyone offended by something can just ban it from the list. I've seen it happen on IRC. I was a reg on #alanismorissette for the past year and a half. At first, it was because I liked the music, then because I was used to it, pretty soon people were banning conversations because they caused too much trouble, when I left bringing up alanis had been banned. hehhehe (not why I left tho, don't want to get into that, a few of u kno, others should kno it almost made me leave the comp entirely) Lesse if in a year or so people can ban POE because they only stay on the list because of the people, and really hate her. Well, I would hate to see this group lose it's popularity now, just when the AP mailing list seems to be doing so well. I have a used 2gig hard drive that's just sitting here. It's an IBM Ultra Wide drive. If the server the mailing list is running on has an Ultra Wide SCSI adapter, I will gladly donate the extra hard drive. I believe a 2Gb drive is more than sufficient for the mailing list. I looked foward to discussing her music, life, and what she ment to me and other fans around the world. I was also looking to meet some new people on-line who had interests similar to mine. Since joinging I have read a few things about POE, but I have mostly heard rantings and ravings about some idiot named Steve. These have ranged from complaints to recommendations of sending him a bomb. I didn't know this was the purpose of this forum. This individual Steve obviously needs attention and thats exactly he got. He wanted to get a rise out of all of you and he succeded. It is amazing how easily the topic was changed from POE to this individual, and stuck with him. This is not why I joined, and is exactly why I am leaving. There aren't many POE fans where I live, but I am content discussing her with them rather than seeing what has taken place here. I understand that there are a lot of good, dedicated POE fans here and I truly apologize to all of you. If I have offended you I am sorry, it was not my intention. Good luck in getting you forum back on track. SAMIAM :o) ------------------------------ End of angry-psychos-digest V2 #202 ***********************************
