Just wanted to wish all you AP's that are going to the Raleigh show to have a good time! (Like there was ever any doubt!) I can't wait for the day I can meet Poe myself, and I'm kinda jealous of you all right now! I would have come down, but I don't have enough vacation time saved up as I'm going to see No Doubt twice in June! Didn't find out about the Poe show until way after I had bought No Doubt tickets. I tell you, if both shows were to occur on the same day, I really would have been in a crisis. Poe...Gwen, Poe... Gwen, POE... Gwen. Ugh. I would have to choose Poe, I suppose. They both have kicka$$ shows, but Poe is so cool. Plus I'd get to meet you guys, of whom I've met none. BTW, does anyone know if Poe has played Richmond, aside from the Buzzfest? I really want her to come here again, and I don't remember her being here any other time. I always swore that if she did come, I'd be there. Now I know I will. Well, that's all... I'm 20, so the 21-and-over clubs are currently inaccessible to me. And don't say, "get a fake ID", since I don't drink, and I'm more interested in hanging out with people near my own age (as opposed to 25 or 30 year olds). Anyway, I thought I'd do a public service and post up some tips for other people who are going to go to clubs, so you know what to expect, and what not to do. Feel free to forward this message wherever, just leave my e-mail address (jehamby@lightside.com). First, dancing. If you go with another guy (as I did), it's very awkward to get out on the dance floor. Girls have it easy, since they can go out and dance together. Guys have it harder, since we sort of have to hang out on the sidelines, and look for girls to dance with. And if you try to dance with yourself, you just look strange. :) One tip I need to try next time: If you're a guy, try to bring at least one woman with you (a friend or whoever). Then you have a better opportunity to go out on the dance floor with her, and then split up and dance with other people. Second, moshing. They played "Teen Spirit" and this huge mosh pit opened on the dance floor. From my experience at the Poe concert in Pomona, I thought this would be cool so I jumped in. Big mistake! The pit was too big and slippery, and everyone kept falling. I smashed up my nose, and my friend got kicked in the head. I tried to get out but kept getting pushed back in. Finally, we both stumbled out, and felt like sh*t! Then I remembered that the Poe concert was outdoors and there was grass instead of a hard floor. :) Suggestion for next time: If you want to mosh, don't jump in at first. Wait until halfway through the song when it calms down, or when the chicks start moshing. No way are you gonna get kicked in the head if there are a lot of women in the pit! Or just don't mosh at all. Trust me the head rush isn't as bad as the headache afterwards if you do it wrong. ;) Well, I guess that's about it. I'll probably be going back either this Friday or next, so if anyone has any more tips, please mail them to me. Maybe we should compile a list. BTW, they didn't play any Poe music at the Palace, which kind of sucked, because it would've fit in well with the rest of the music they played. Wait until halfway through the song when it >calms > down, or when the chicks start moshing. No way are you gonna get >kicked > in the head if there are a lot of women in the pit! Yeah right, there's no difference. well at least not here, most of the girls at the bush concert were high and Psycho in the pits. If u want to not get kicked in the head, stay on the edges, don't mosh, or stay away from the body passing. If you don't want to fall, break your back, and have to leave, don't get body passed. :P And moshing isn't the same to everyone, you either like it, or you don't. Most mosh pits are made because Everyone squeezes together to be close to the band and people start rockin out with you in the middle, but the type your talking about sounds like a crappy one made to look cool if it was too a tape. You can't mosh to a tape (not good neway) so u were in a dull mosh pit or a mosh pit where people were trying to be violent more than in a real mosh pit. You'll know the difference because people won't really care about who gets hurt in them, oposed to moshing at a live concert if someone gets hurt, it'll stop around the area and people will help the person unless it's in the worst part, a fight's broken out, or it's just too violent. I figured this was a good time to post the results to my moshing poll.... HATE MOSHING/don't do it: 7 LOVE MOSHING/Do do it: 8 SOMETIMES/depends on who the band is: 6 so basically 14 out of the 21 responders do mosh at least sometimes. - -Landon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 May 1997 18:19:32 -0500 From: John Beadle Subject: NPR: update on my sis Hay ppls who remember me talkin about my sis with leukemia: Alexa's doing ok for the big picture, but she got out last saturday frm being sick at the hospital, but it came back and developed into Pneumonia... that's the #1 cause of death for ppl with Leukemia, but it was caught early on, and just was barely on one side of her heart, and is expected to be worked back with antibiotics in a week or so. thnx for all the support... - -Landon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 May 1997 19:25:07 -0400 From: Mary Jo Bazeley Subject: NPR:happy birthday! It is looking to be in late August but there are a couple other wild card weekends that are being considered. To those who haven't heard...the short version: we are having an all-age AP party here in Monterey sometime in late July or August. It is open to any AP plus a guest. We plan to party, eat, drink (beer and wine only), give away some free stuff. We hope to create a place for APs to gather and have fun outside a concert setting. My experience with APs in Las Vegas gave birth to this idea. Monterey is a very cool place to spend time, there is lots to do...if there is enough interest, I may organize a group of us to go scuba diving. There will be some exciting things going on at the party, and it's a great way to build some momentum for Poe's upcoming tour and new CD. The party is free! We'll assist with hotel info and other tourist info for those not familiar with the Monterey Peninsula. I'm currently working with Jarrod, Alicia, and my sister, Carol to organize a fun party.
