(I stole it from a fortune cookie, ) "The best thing for being sad," replied Merlin, beginning to puff and blow, "is to learn something. That's the only thing that never fails. You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honour trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is only one thing for it then -- to learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting. Learning is the only thing for you. A Review Rochester=85 A (Brief???) Review by Mike Z and CathyS Friday Night - Naked, K's Choice, the Bloodhound Gang CathyS - I picked up Kristina and Kelly in Buffalo around 1:00. From there, we went to my favorite tattoo shop (Crazy Joe rules!), where Kristina was to get her first tattoo=85 a tiger lilly on her lower back.=20 Well, Kristina had soooo much fun J that Kelly also decided to get one=85= a butterfly on her shoulder. It was a lot of fun, but we were pressed for time, so we zoomed home to meet Mike and his sister Theresa. Mike - - My evening started out waiting for the girls. It was good to see Kristina and Kelly again, as I had met them in Richmond/DC. =20 CathyS - - We ordered a pizza, chowed down, drank a couple of beers (I was spazzing out=85 all the last-minute stuff was really getting to me=85 the others all tried to calm me down). Theresa showed up, and after many pho= ne calls about last-minute directions, etc., we left for the show. Mike - When we arrived at the show were patted down like we were going to the Big House=85 luckily they weren't doing fully body cavity searches. = J CathyS - Met Tammy out in the parking lot. Gave her their t-shirts for Saturday's show, and then proceeded to go into the show. Mike - When we walked in the door there was a band playing (Naked, who we had also seen at BuzzFest in Richmond). By the time we got up to the bar= , we could tell that it was way too loud. For some reason, they cranked th= e opening bands way too loud. =20 CathyS - Met Sp00k at the bar for the first time. What a dude! Ran into= a friend from work and her husband, also avid concert-goers, who we ended u= p hanging out with the whole weekend, for all the shows! John and Isabell, you rule! =20 Mike - Naked was pretty good=85 although playing your hit song twice in o= ne show is pretty cheezy ("Mann's Chinese"). K's Choice was the best band o= f the night, by far. The female lead was really cool (kinda POE like in my opinion). Bloodhound Gang came on last but by no means deserved to be th= e headliners. They were amusing, but if I wanted to see a rap show I would go see Snoop Doggy Dog (yak). CathyS - Yeah, when BHG came on, I thought they were the sound guys!=20 People=85 if you're going to be in a band, learn to play an instrument or sing!!! Hehehe During BHG, someone said.. "Hey, there's Toby" and sure enough, there was our spike-haired friend. I freaked out (a theme for t= he weekend)=85 ran up to him and hugged him. He looked at me with his weird Norweigan (or whatever he is) look and I screamed "Angry Psychos!". This did not change his look at all! Oh well, I guess he didn't recognize me = J. =20 Mike - Ran into Rick Masters and hung out with him=85 had a good time as usual. Toby mentioned that POE was coming into the airport at 12:00 midnight, and, being the Angry Psychos that we are, we decided to go hang out at the airport at midnight. Unfortunately, we missed the Mistress of Groove by a half-hour. L =20 CathyS - We went home, very tired, and crashed. Saturday - Naked, Summer Camp, P(*)E CathyS - Got up late, were running late, and got to the show later than planned. Missed the parade. Dropped Kristi and Kel off near Highland Bo= wl with the t-shirts. As soon as I arrived, Angry Psychos were coming at me from every direction for their tickets, shirts, information, etc. After standing around for a little while by the line (which was huge!), I heard my name being called from behind the fence. Some security person said "Some guy named Lawrence is looking for you=85" and she let me in! J I didn't have to show my ticket, get patted down or searched, or anything.=20 Ran into Lawrence Kim, and after hugs (we know each other from Vegas) we went to find Robby, Tony and Emily (more hugs =96 remember, POE herself h= as said that AP's should hug more often!). P.S. Robby, thanks for the backstage pass! =20 Mike - I arrived later with my daughter Rachele and my sister Theresa. W= e stood in line for at least 45 minutes (not enjoying the privileges of the ELITE Psychos J). The anticipation was growing to the point where I couldn't stand it. Finally got in and met up with the gang. =20 CathyS - Being on "the other side of the fence" had its rewards and its drawbacks=85 the gates opened almost an hour and a half late, and people = in the crowed kept yelling at us thinking we had something to do with it. =20 Mike - The typical Rochester weather (cold rain) put a damper on things a= nd it was very difficult to get excited about the first two bands (Naked and Summer Camp). CathyS - I took Rachele (9 years old) and Stephen (Isabell and John's son= , 11 years old) backstage during Summer Camp's set. Poe was still at her in-store appearance at the House of Guitars, but we got to meet Naked, wh= o gave the kids CD's and autographs. Got pictures with Levar and warmed up= a bit backstage. Just as we were leaving POE showed up! She saw me and sa= id "Hey, I know you" and gave me a big hug. She also hugged Rachele and Stephen. I looked down and Rachele was shaking and almost crying=85. I freaked out! "What's wrong!" I asked her. "POE touched me!" she said=85 "I'll never wash this shirt again!" An Angry-Psycho in the making!!! Mike - The sun came out just in time for POE and things really started warming up. =20 CathyS - Great show, as usual. Kevin did a great job for his first gig (although we missed Cam). "Rise and Shine," the song POE wrote for Levar= , made me cry. After the show, group photos were taken and the people who had to leave got to meet with POE. It was freezing out, so POE invited t= he rest of us back to her hotel. Mike - Group photos on the lawn were great=85 it felt as if we were a fam= ily. When POE came out and joined the group the family was complete. In orde= r to get to the hotel, we had to walk back to Natalie's car, which sounded fine at first, but we had 8 people, and Natalie has a Honda! So we all piled in for the famed "car-orgy@poe.org" J. =20 CathyS - Imagine a bunch of Angry-Psychos in the lobby of a fairly nice hotel, lounging on couches and tables and such, gathered around our Godde= ss POE. I should mention that there were weddings and bar mitzvahs and such going on at the same time=85 guess who took over though! POE was her usu= al self, singing autographs, talking and joking with us. Paul (Fishkin, pre= z of Modern Records) brought POE a burger (yes, veggie freaks, POE does eat meat!) and after a while told her it was time to go. She reluctantly lef= t us and returned to her room. Mike - - After POE left we went in the bar and hung with the band, POE's brother Mark, and Paul. It was kind of fun hanging out with the band=85 = we usually focus all of our attention on POE. I even got my t-shirt signed = by Daris ( a rare one!!). I had a fairly long discussion with Paul F., we talked about Cameron, POE's future and my fantastical desire to work on t= he POE crew (have to have dreams right?). All in all it was an awesome end = to an awesome day. CathyS - - A bunch of AP's came back to my house (trailer_orgy@poe.org). W= e talked Natalie, Jason and Brad into staying over. Mike made us breakfast in the morning (yum) and the Virginia crew took off to meet up with the Buffalo crew. All I can say is, thank you to my fellow AP's and to POE a= nd everyone who made it such a wonderful day! You all RULE!!!!! I know all of you, but many of you do not know each other. This is an interesting thought. I am pleased to announce the impending launch of LYZA.COM. Please forgive the narcissistic nomenclature, all of the other domain names I wanted were taken. Besides, my name has a certain catchiness, don't you think? On Monday, March 26th, tune your browsers to http://www.lyza.com and see what I'm up to. There are many things I can tell you. One thing is: one of my major objectives in creating a domain is to build some sort of community so I won't be lonely. Thus I am giving away free web page accounts with 3 megabytes of space (if you want more, even seriously more, we can talk), a POP email account, unlimited bandwidth and unlimited aliases. Another thing: my Poe empire will have room to branch out now that I have a comfortable amount of room. AP's/Poe Fans: I am especially interested in providing a stable, loving home for Poe-related web pages. If you have always wanted to have a Poe page of your own, let me know. My approaching road trip will get the attention it deserves, I will be able to support my many habits, ack, this site is going to be amazingly time-consuming! If you received this email, it means I like you. Thank you for your support!!! If you want any information, or an aliased email (i.e. yourname@lyza.com) or just wanna talk or whatever, feel free to contact me. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 May 1997 20:35:54 EDT From: airkc1@juno.com (Kung-Gene Chu) Subject: AP book Well, when my computer crashed and I lost all my email, I also lost the address of the AP book, so whoever's doing that AP book send me the address. regards, Kung-Gene ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 May 1997 20:35:54 EDT From: airkc1@juno.com (Kung-Gene Chu) Subject: NPR: Out for a couple days I am going to not be able to access my email for at least a couple of days, so I won't be responding to anything.
