He put us on the summer camp guest list after talking to him for an hour (I'm sooo special haha). Afterwards I met the guys from Summer Camp and they were great. Naked and Summer Camp were good but Poe was great beyond compare. Thanks have to go out to Robbie, Cathy (a true angel)and all the other Psychos that were that made it a great show. Met some really cool people and had a great time. Except for the mosh pit...Greg and I were the only 2 I saw in the pit and he wussed out (hahaha no sleep for 24 hours, he's a trooper. I arrived at Highland Bowl with Tammy and my niece Richelle and rite away we spotted cathys@poe.org with some other AP's on the other side of the fence (the gates were not open yet) They were ez to spot in the brite purple AP shirts, purple in honor of the "lilac Fest". As soon as we were thru the gates we were given AP lit, and lit for the benifit, which we handed out until the supply was quickly exhausted. We then proceeded to group up on the side of a hill that overlooked the bowl, and everyone started taking pictures. We met Tony the videographer for the show and we all got to do a little clip individualy. We then went to work on staying warm, it was cold grey with dark clouds for the first two acts (Naked was kewl as was Summer Camp) and then a mere 10 minutes before POE, the SUN burst thru in a huge way and remained for the rest of the show :> There must have been at least 40 PsYcHoS in purple shirts running around, and we got LOTS of looks and questions from a crowd that was deffinetly curious about the CONNECTION. Maybe half of us made our way onto the concrete apron infront of the elevated stage/concert shell. We were supposed to merge in the center, but as those things go we got a bit scattered. Tony got a great spot to shoot video from, dead center on the stage, standing on a park bench rite on the edge of the mosh pit. Pretty much all the AP's that were upfront, were within eyesite of each other, or so it seemed, it was very um shall I say active upfront. So that was my first mosh pit experience. Only POE could get this 39 YO to want to get that close to the stage. I certainly was rewarded, I can't give ya the playlist, I'm sure others will, I can tell ya that I was captivated by POE, and that while many many acts cannot support there art on the road as well as they can in the studio, POE was SO much better LIVE. Course your talking about being at a show with a large group of people who have alot in common, perhaps it was just the casualness of it all, not that the show wasn't ENERGY packed. POE interacted with the audiance frequently thruout every tune, and the band was jovial and obviously enjoying playing to an enthusiastic crowd. O.K. shows over, more AP group photos, move here move there, and we keep gettin updates from robby@poe.org and were running out of time to meet POE :( so itz decideded that those who have to leave the site rite away will go first, then those who have not met POE. Two groups of 8 go before us, we are standing in a hall in the interior of the concert shell, a place I had wanted to see the inside of since I was a boy (so another first :> ) were told to come in the room with POE and then to leave, a couple of times, and then they shut the door :( with us on the wrong side :( and then they come out and tell us that were getting kicked out cause they are locking the gates on the park :( And then the SUN came bursting out again. After what must have been a long day (POE was in a parade with Levar at 10am, and autograhs at a record store 2pm) OUR Goddess of blonde locks opened the door and said that those who still had to leave should step rite up and that the rest of us were welcome to meet with her back at her hotel :> . We were out of the park in a flash and off to my trusty YUGO :> we arrived intime to catch the band checking in there gear at the desk. It was just me and my niece at first, and then a few now familiar faces started showing up. I am guessing it was POE's manager who asked after a head count if that was all of us, perhaps relieved, and I said I knew of a few stragglers just incase we were gonna be moved again. Well a bunch of AP's showed up, prob about 20, and we just took over the lobby of this really nice hotel with lots of fromaly dressed people wandering around for the multiple functions (weddings etc.) that were taking place, and here are all of us dressed in our AP ware. But we took over in a casual way, still like family, lots of cosy furniture around, no rowdiness, just relaxed. And in came that SUNshine again :> just all smiles. I hope we make her feel as good as she did all us. I was sitting on a long couch with my niece to my rite and POE took a spot next to her. It was like visiting with Santa, she just started chattin and signing, I had her sign my issue #1 of NET magazine which will be framed shortly, and I just put out a finger to touch her hand, and she took mine in both of hers, and thanked ME, but I know who owes who. Well I made a quick dash off the couch, cause I hope if we all just have our minute, she will be able to continue meeting with her fans, some of these overpaid so called stars should take some pointers from POE. She is genuine, lively, and humble all at once. And then I finaly got a chance to shake Robby@poe.org hand, I didn't get much of a chance to chat with him as he seemed to be back stage all day the lucky dog :> I knew before I met him that he was talanted, from his posts, and the fact that he is still in high school, I suspect that Robby has a brite future in the entertainment business, whatever else he mite have going on, his Devotion to POE and the AP's coupled with his how can I make this happen attitude have been greatly appreciated. cathys@poe.org and her CREW were an awful lot of fun people, there way hip to the local entertainment scene and Tammy and I hope to hook up with that bunch, they see all the best local acts. Thanx also Cathy for hooking us up with the GREAT AP shirts, with all our size changing confusion and last minute orders, thanx much. To all of you I met today, Imortal, Bilho, Lawrance, Becky (in vinyl) the RIT crew, the guys from the mosh pit, Tony, Robby, Jon, EJ :>, Mike, Jim, and the rest of you party people, and course especialy POE :) :> Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. It all started at around 5pm on Friday... Becky was still not at my house, I turned on the news... and DAMMIT an NAACP march right in front of the bus station where we were to depart from... at 6:30... 5:55pm... Becky FINALLY arrives! We rush to the bus station and luckily arrived in time... (my mother makes some interesting comments which make the initial first half hour of the trip a bit weird... but it was a cool bus ride... would have sucked without Becky though...) 6:45-10:40pm... Bus ride to Erie PA... got to watch Becky be really nervous for almost four hours :) 10:40pm... we arrived in Erie to be escorted to Buffalo where apartmentorgy- at-bill'shouse@poe.org was to begin... 10:45-11:00pm... eat at Wendy's... well... not really... don't think anyone but Kevin finished their meal! 11:00-12:40am... ride to Buffalo... where we stop at Burger king where the VA crew was supposed to meet us... but.. they didn't show... so we went back to Bill/Tim/Kevin's... 4am... phone call... "We just got to the Burger King... come get us... it's been a long day!"-Jason (Mith) LONG AP PARTY... all nighter... then: 9:15am... we leave for Rochester... pick Jiff (Daiv) up along the way... 1:00pm... we arrive at the venue just in time to hear about a minute of "Angry Johnny" from the soundcheck... then run into CathyS (Where's EJ?) and chat for a little while... some of the crowd waiting for the gates to open inquire about what instrument in the band I play... (I was wearing my Radio Free AP Jacket... they thought with all the POE stuff I had on I must be a band member! COOL!) 1:00-5:29pm a whole lot of weird shit happens... two bands play... they weren't very good... but i guess i was just waiting for POE anyway! (it was really cold!) 5:29pm... move donw to the center area.... prepare to tape the show... (CathyS was passed the tape recorder and several cameras over the fence... thanks for the "help" cathy :)) 5:30ish... POE comes on stage: "Hey everybody who's seen us in concert before... we have a brand new cello player tonight... feel free to give him shit all night... His name is Kevin and he rules!" Fingertips Kevin does a pretty cool job on the cello part... Choking the Cherry Hello Fly Away Feedback shit (Kev screwed up the opening to Control Freak... so they play:) Dolphin Anything Control Freak For anyone that remembers the song "Control" (AKA "Little Girl's Dream" AKA "Don't Mess") it's QUITE different now... new bridge "I have taken control..." a new verse and the opening of the song is different too (no "Don't mess with a little girls dream she's liable to grow up mean...") The song now has an official... POE told us... title... "Control Freak" Beautiful Girl That Day Angry Johnny Trigger Happy How Long Lose Your Mind (Speed Metal Jam... it has a title too!) a few words from our sponsors (The Nerve, LAFF) then... Rise and Shine... an awesome duet between Levar Anton and POE... she wrote the song for Levar and it sent chills down my spine and sent tears to my eyes... POE made a beautiful tribute to a young boy's life... and made him into a "ROCK STAR!" then... the crap happened... actually it all started during "Beautiful Girl" Kristi (kristina@poe.org) got booted from the venue for "trying to crowd surf"... in actuality she was trying to get away from being injured ion the severely angry mosh pit that arose... it seems that 5 hours in the cold with alcohol, social drugs and some unknown bands makes some people abit assinine... anyway... i had had NO sleep... and i hadn't been feeling well all day... when suddenly... i felt the need to sit down... and lost total feeling in my left arm... i was very scared and several APs asked for the paramedics to help me... they attended to me... and explained that i needed to go to the hospital... I refused treatment... POE was more important to me! then... the paramedics freaked me out... "Your blood pressure is abnormally high and with the symptoms you're having there's a possibilty you may have had a brain attack..." that's a STROKE to us common folk! they scared the shit out of me with that line, i signed the forms and jogged up the hill where i posed with the other APs for the group shots... trembling... with Kristi and Becky... the two people i care most about in my AP family... on either side... (You guys know I probably wouldn't have made it without you...) All the APs supported me... I must have had thirty hugs in a row... and CathyS with her rousing "Where's EJ?" reprise really cheered me up... AP love is true... and I will love you all forever... after that... we ran over to the backstage area to prepare for the group pics, with POE and Paul Fishkin... then POE showed up... called me over gave me a HUGE hug and said... "EJ... you'll be okay... you just gotta get yourself taken care of... please go to the hospital..." I know that if I would have left... Poe would have come to the hospital to see me... so... the group which i had come with was scurried upstairs where I got to meet Kevin (he signed my cd... Cameron does a much better cello picture in his autograph... then again... Kevin has only been with the band for 2 days...) talked to Jones for a while... he had a nice jacket (it was the same one I was wearing...) got to Poe's dressing room... talked to Mark (her brother) for a minute about his book and "A Rose is a Rose"... asked POE for a favor she said she would comply and to get the info to Jarrod... so I did... told her I would email her as soon as i got back... went to the hospital... got checked out... was a combination PROBABLY of high stress and lack of rest... but it wasn't going to kill me... so... off we went toward buffalo... with two added passengers... Kelly... who was one of my favorites from the original Buffalo group :)... and Daiv... who had also taped the show... well... we dropped Kelly off in Tonawanda and headed home, watched a little bit of the Las Vegas tape tony gave to me (AWESOME WORK!) and ate some pizza... then I passed out from exhaustion... to be awakened by Becky... and then it was time to come home... so we did... a very strange weekend... it was great to see POE... but it wasn't quite the time Richmond/DC was... but... AP love is everywhere... I love all of you from the concert! Without the Angry Psychos...
