I was recently informed of this group and site and had to check it out. I've recently received my confirmation and thought i'd give you a little info on myself: My name's Jason Crawford. I am 24 years old; live in Richmond, Virginia and spend most of my time between school and work. Fortunately the summer is coming and school is finished for a few short, blessed, months. I work full time and will go back to school part-time. I first heard of Poe last year when she came to Richmond to play at the Edgar Alan Poe Museum. Most recently I saw her 4-19 in Richmond at the Buzzfest. Since it was a 10-band deal, she only got a chance to play for 45-50 minutes. The set was similar to the one described by Padma, but it was on a rather chilly day (for those under the pavilion). Poe came on and started with "That Day" and really got the crowd involved. When she moved on to "Choking..." she had most of the crowd from the grass rush the stage. I think nearly 20 state troopers had heart attacks when they saw the flood of humanity rushing down to Poe. I, on the other hand, LOVED it. The crowd had been pretty lame to that point. Poe got the crowd into the show, and she had the good fortune to be on stage when the sun finally started hitting the crowd under the pavilion. Everyone went wild. She played "Fly Away" and thanked our local radio station for giving it the much needed air time it deserved. I don't know about the rest of you, but hearing it on the radio the first time was pretty awesome. Seeing it live, and the prelude, was spectacular. Since I won't be going to school this summer, I hope to take a trip to see a few shows if I can wrangle a the vacation time. Anyhow: Greetings! Okay... since this has become a huge debate... and i just wrote to Jarrod about it... here's my opinion of this whole fan club argument... Dustin: Think about what YOU are doing! some facts i know for sure: Poe acknowledges the existence of her own personal mailing list from way back when... but also is trying to combine that list with the AP list, because, believe it or not... she realizes that WE are more organized... she doesn't mention anyone other than the APs at concerts, she doesn't say anything about any unofficial or official fan club, OTHER than of course US... therefore... are we NOT the fan club? we are all here for a specific reason... we were all brought to Poe.org because of our love of Poe and her music... and we are all angry psychos... now my opinion: Why should we try to amend something that is working? We've done fine without a "leader" for at least seven months... we have all of the regional "leaders" to help us organize concert and meet and greet situations... we have A BUNCH of people who donate time, energy and hard work to keep us informed... and in angry psycho clothing too for that matter... we have rusty cranking out new tape trees... me making new nametags.... jarrod... being jarrod... evan doing interviews and posting reviews... modern records backing US as the fan club... what more do we need? Dustin... i'm not saying your wrong in trying to organize us better... but... what need is there for more organization? you think the flaming is bad now... what do you think would happen if someone was put in charge? they'd be flamed to DEATH because others would think THEY should be in charge... think about it... it's true... and so ends my editorial ej ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 May 1997 23:15:09 EDT From: glamorgirl@juno.com Subject: What the hell WHy am I on DIGEST version now?
