Structure as a company just orders music service from some other company and they make the tapes according to the target customers or something like that. We get a tape every couple months and we are supposed to play it until we get a new tape, but sometimes we just play the tapes we like until we get a new one we like. Everyone at work knows me as the person who knows who made every song on the two or three hour tapes and sends the customers to me to ask about the songs. Therefore, I'm sending it in parts....Padma Friday night, May 9: Angry Psychos party: Plexor, Shaun, Melly, Nicole, Tom, and me. Much beer, lots of talk about Poe, some political debate. All in all, a fun evening--AP tee-shirts were passed out, we got to know each other, and knew who to look for the next day. Saturday, May 10: Nicole, Tom and I arrived early--about 1 p.m. and drove up to the early bird parking lot. Then the long uphill ascent to the ampitheatre, where I was told I'd have to walk a mile back down the road to find the Will Call booth where backstage credentials would be confirmed. So I abandoned Tom and Nicole, telling them to find good seats, and walked back to where we entered (didn't want to lose my parking space). They had no record of me on the KBPI list and hadn't yet received the band list. Eventually, the bands' guest lists arrived, but I wasn't on it. I waited there for about 90 minutes (total), hoping to get word on my backstage-status before a Red Rocks higher-up told me that I should go back to the amphitheatre and wait at the pass-gate. Again, they had no record of my pass--and I'm thinking, "Hey, the Angry Psychos will really be angry at me if I can't work this out." In the meantime, the concert has already started (fortunately, not POE!). Finally, the lady guarding the pass gate said, "The person with your credentials isn't here yet, but at least I've confirmed that you're cool." Whew!--wiping brow. In the meantime, Tom and Nicole found me, as did Melly, Brian from Georgia, Johnny and Hank. They were so cool! They took turns keeping me company while I waited. (Man, the Psychos are so cool!) Melly even waited in line at the tee-shirt booth to buy me a concert tee-shirt (very nice--Poe star in a fireball against a black background). Eventually, the van bearing Poe's equipment arrived, and another Brian (is that right? her road manager?) said, "You Padma?" I said, "Yep." He said, "Poe's plane just arrived. They'll be here shortly with your credentials." Hooray! By and by, Paul Fishkin found me, and apologized for my wait (he must have been told that I'd been waiting for over two hours, because I didn't tell him myself). By then, I was so delirious that I just replied, "Hey, I'm just happy to see you!" He brought me backstage and had me wait in the lounge by Poe's dressing room while he worked out the Meet & Greet arrangements with Poe and the Red Rocks authorities. I was able to seen Jane Jenson while I was waiting until they closed off the view from below. While waiting, the lead singer and co-founder (Gail?) of L-7 came into the lounge. I'd never seen her before and had never heard L-7's music, so I wasn't intimidated. I asked her who she was and about her band and the lifestyle she led. The most memorable part of the conversation was her admission that, "Yeah, it's pretty cool getting paid to be loud and immature!" She seemed pretty down, though, that L-7 had never made it really big, because they had been at it for 12 years (or was it 15?). I also met the newest member of L-7, but don't remember her name. While talking with Gail, Poe walked into her dressing room--my eyes bugged out and I gasped, "Omigod, it's her!" She looked down the hall like some crazy person had spoken and I felt truly embarrassed (just my own self-consciousness!), then she disappeared into her dressing room. Then Paul came back with my instructions for the meet & greet, and I was finally able to join the other Psychos in the audience, after watching the end of Jane Jenson's show from backstage. The Odds came on, and were awful. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 May 1997 12:44:07 -0700 From: mb882 Subject: Counter is NOT gone http://www.geocities.com/hollywood/5375/ click battle of bands vote POE reload repeat repeat I am calling the lazy Ty on the phone now so we can adjust the Autovoters......12:45 in the afternoon, still asleep....sheesh,what a slacker! Poe walked in, and had such a calming presence! She seemed happy to see us. Poe is, I think, *honestly*, one of the most genuinely nice people I have ever met. She treated us all (even I, who had never met her before) like old friends, or family. She was warm and affectionate with all of us, and never stopped smiling. She let us hug her, and put her arm around the shoulder of whomever was sitting with her getting autographs (she even let me hug her!--saying that the Angry Psychos should hug all the time). She tolerated photo after photo from those of us (including me!) who successfully spirited cameras into Red Rocks. She even signed Hank's back (where he has a dolphin tattoo!), adding "Sharks Suck!" or something like that. Poe told me (confirming what I had hoped!) that she noticed my Renaissance hat in the audience, even though she couldn't see my AP tee-shirt. I was so happy--she really had pointed at me! On the back of my AP shirt, she wrote: "Padma, the Renaissance and the Man!", then drew a large heart and signed her name. She wrote on the front of my concert shirt (the one with the fireball), "Padma Rules!!" (I'm wearing it now)--and signed the back. She even signed my ticket--for my fiancee, Julie, who couldn't make the show because she had a dance performance with the company she's in. Finally, Poe did have to leave, but not before a few group shots were taken. Poe was incredibly gentle, and generous with her time--not to mention generous with her heart. I repeat--POE is one of the nicest, warmest people I have ever met! It was startling--I had heard that she was really groovy to the APs, but I figured it was just good marketing on her part. But it's deeper than that--she's just awesomely (is that a word?) beautiful inside! As she left, she showed us into her dressing room, and invited us to help ourselves to soda, beer, scotch--and whatever else we could find. We stayed there for a long time (during most of L-7's show), chatting with Paul, and Poe's drummer and guitarist, then went back outside and watched most of the other bands from backstage (Social Distortion was excellent--especially their rendition of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire"--a much better rock song than a C&W song, by the way! A few of us met and had our pictures taken with Jane Jenson, and Hank had his back autographed by Jane Jenson and some of the L-7 girls. The Offspring sucked in my opinion, and Tom, Nicole and I all left about halfway into their 2nd song (the challenge of the Offspring seemed to be how many profanities they could fit into 5 seconds--boring!). The Psychos (excepting Shaun, whose friend was ill) all gathered back at my and Julie's apartment for a post-concert party. Julie (my fiancee) had also invited all of Kim Robards Dance company over for a post-dance-concert party, so there were two entirely different groups of people there--sort of unwieldy for a small apartment, but fun! Unfortunately, there were too many people and not enough room, and not many Psychos stayed for very long (except Johnny and Hank). Too bad--both groups of people were very, very cool, but it was overwhelming! Photos will be taken in for development very soon--I'll send some off to Jarrod for his web-site so that all of us can enjoy them. (And yes, Jarrod, we did get some group shots!) Psycholove forever! Padma ------------------------------ Date: 12 May 1997 13:44:34 -0600 From: "PadmaT" Subject: Red Rocks/My Experience Part 2 Then, POE! POE! POE! She opened with "That Day", and had an unfortunate encounter with the fence dividing the stage from the crowd--she fell in a most unseemly and painful manner (saying afterwards that she was truly glad she wasn't a man!). She followed "That Day" with "Choking the Cherry", "Hello", and "Fly Away". Then Cameron did an incredible cello solo (he rocks!). Then Poe concluded her set with "Dolphin" (my personal favorite!), "Angry Johnny" (she yelled, "Are there any angry young men out there?" and when several people cheered, she flipped them off!), "Trigger Happy Jack", and "How Long", followed by a "Losing Our Minds" instrumental jam at the very end. Unfortunately, because several bands followed her, her set was only 45 minutes long. Shaun already told you what she said about Red Rocks. "This place is so beautiful that God and Satan both must vacation here!" I had an absurdly funny vision: God dressed up like a southern gentleman, hiccuping over his mint julip, and Satan looking something like Mick Jagger drinking Coors (the guy has no taste!), drooling over Jane Jenson. Satan told God he wanted Jane Jenson, and challenged God to a thumb-wrestle for her soul. God seemed surprised, and asked Satan why he didn't want Poe. "She frightens me," answered Satan. Throughout, Poe was wonderfully electrifying, stage-diving, walking into the crowd touching people, pointing at the Psychos she spotted-- truly enjoying herself and the people. Some jackass threw a coke at her, drenching her, but Poe was so cool that she just ignored it. The audience loved her (except the jackass, of course)! I had worn a Renaissance hat so that the Psychos could more easily find me, and Poe saw it from stage and pointed at me when singing "How Long" (I was *so* happy!). After Poe's set, the APs gathered at the pre-arranged location (Shaun had found us and joined us by then), and Paul Fishkin led us all back to the lounge where I had waited before, telling us that Poe could only give us about fifteen minutes (I know Shaun said she spent 20 minutes with us, but it seemed to me it was closer to 45) because she and Cameron had to catch a flight. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 May 1997 15:55:41 -0400 (EDT) From: Rebecca Lynn Clark Subject: what's up with the chatroom? i can't get in to www.poe.org! what happened? - -becky=)(vinyl sex goddess!) mother@poe.org @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ $ Listen to PSYCHO on New Rock ACRN $ $ 99.3 caFM Saturday nights 10pm-12 $ $ Check out my web page: $ $ http://oak.cats.ohiou.edu/~acrn/djs/psycho.html $ @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ ~~~~~~~~ =O) ~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 May 1997 13:32:32 +0100 From: Roger Knox (Roger Knox) Subject: AP story Hey gang... Just wanted to share a cool story from Poe's Long Beach show. Some of you may have noticed last week or so that a new AP signed up from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I thought it was so cool that I printed her intro and took it to have Poe sign it and send back to this girl via snail mail. Poe was very excited (of course) and read the girl's intro commenting on how she has heard that Daisy Fuentes has been talking up Poe to spanish speaking countries. Just as she was to sign the page, some of the security from the show came in for autographs. Being the person that she is, Poe said she would sign her autograph only if they signed theirs for her also. Guess what was close at hand? I thought the whole exchange was quite comical and last I saw the intro page from Buenos Aires, it had about 4 or 5 signatures on it, none of them Poe. I emailed our new AP and recounted this story, hoping she would not be dissapointed that I didn't get Poe's autograph. Since I never told her I intended to do this in the first place, she wrote back very excited and grateful. With all the bickering lately, I found this a cool thing. The spark has been ignited in South America. Viva! Poe!! Now we can rock to the sounds of "Juanito Enojado."
