[Clint Doyle ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 30 Apr 1997 01:09:23 +0000 From: "Lyza Gardner" Subject: Many Things onmymind Hi. Lest this post sound like a downer, I've just had my heart irreparably broken and school is screwed. If AP's really have this family/love/closeness thing going on, maybe you can email me to cheer me up. Anyway, I want to address several things. I try not to post extraneously. I try to post only when I have something concrete and at least mildly important to say. Lately I have been posting more, but that is because I have had a lot going on in the Poe part of my life. I am one of the so-called "original" AP's, I have been part of the list since October of last year, and I have watched everything that has happened since. Several things lately have really begun to bug me, though. 1. I don't know about the rest of you, but I happen to have a well-evolved life away from this computer. This makes it very tedious to come home to 50 messages from the AP's only to find that half of them needn't have been posted at all. For example, instead of emailing Jarrod privately to inquire about the status of the poe.org chatroom, there were probably 10 messages posted publically questioning what was up. And even though everyone professes to hate them, there are still millions of "me too" posts. I've also had it with drawn out metaphysical arguments about "active members", who to flame/not to flame, the behavior of a certain person, etc. What I envision as being the end goal of this list is to a) connect Poe's fans in a way not possible through any other medium, b) provide a forum for Poe-Related information (this doesn't mean straight concert dates, etc., but a discussion of many topics related to Poe) and c) as a means of publicity for Poe. 2. This whole flaming thing. I, personally, have never flamed anyone. Surprisingly enough, I have never been flamed myself. Strange how it works that way, isn't it? Flaming reminds me of the immature catfighting of the girls in my high school. It smacks of the inability to express a disagreement in an eloquent way, it shows the inability of the author to express a thought in an acceptable way. If a person writes something intolerable, ignore. Why flame? You're not going to convert them to your side, or shame them. You're just going to exacerbate the situation and possibly drag all of the AP's into an aggravating shouting match. I'm tired of it. 3. As for the number on Poe's hand in the photo. Many of you have expressed dismay that AP's are trying to call that number. Listen: when Poe sat for that photo, she knew without the shadow of a doubt its intention: it was to be used for PUBLICITY, posters, backstage passes, etc. It was meant for public viewing. If she didn't want people trying to figure out the number, she shouldn't have had it on her hand for the picture. It lost its "privacy" the moment she approved the photo for release. That is my (stronger than usual) opinion. 4. If you have lots to say, please try to consolidate it into one post instead of 5 or more per day, as I am seeing more often. This makes it MUCH more easy to get through one's mail. 5. I hope I'm not sounding mean. I just am getting frustrated with the ridiculous arguments, the childish whining and the publicly-posted private emails that seem to be composing about half of the AP posts. I wouldn't stick around if I didn't value the other half of the posts, the truly friendly people on the list, and the information that I glean through reading your messages. Thanks for your time. If you have any responses, please e-mail me privately. p.s. There are new photos of Poe w/AP Jim Myers on my page plus some other updates. My husband has been a POE fan for awhile. I guess I was a bit musicaly immature because I didn't see what a great, and I mean GREAT artist she is. And then one day I woke up and realized my mistake and thought, wow she is awesome, which is a word I haven't used since highschool. Anyways I am now a huge POE fan. I have had to buy 2 tapes already because I keep wearing them out (is that the wear?). Well here is my intro finally. I am a 24 year old college student studying accounting. I have only seen POE once live and thought it was better than sex (that's not too inappropriate to say is it?). I was lucky enough to meet her after the show. She is the coolest musically artist I have ever met. I am verpicky on my music taste. I like the the ramones, POE (of course), Violent Femmes, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and a very few others. Okay this is long enough. Thanks for being here this is great. Brenda p.s. I may not be an original AP but I'm a proud new one. This response was both so overwhelming and so positive! I guess I have no choice BUT to give the details nine thousand people have asked me about. Here's how it'll work: 1-When: I'm not starting this right away. I believe I said that I would do it over the summer, and I meant it. Graduation isn't until 6/8, and I have finals and senior trip before that. However, I will be posting my address withing the next few weeks so that I can start collecting the entries. 2-To get in it: It is absolutly free to get in the book. When I post my address, all you have to do is send me a picture of your self and some basic information: who what when where why-- in incomplete sentence format (like, where: New York City). Also, in the back I would like to stick-in a compilation of photos of us together with Poe, at shows and stuff. So, also, if you have any photos from those mass AP gatherings, I'll be glad to try to do something with those too. 3-To get one: After I've made the original complete copy, I'll estimate approximatly how much each individual one will cost. Then I'll post that amount, and anyone who wants a book can "order" one. Oh- and I'm not sending anyone a book until I've recieved their payment! 4-NOTES (many): Incase you haven't noticed, you don't have to purchase a book to be in it. I would like to see ever last angry psycho in the book. This means that even if you don't want to spring for the cost, we still want you to be in it. Also, if you include your address your precious photos will be returned. One more thing: are we going to be calling this the "official" AP book? That would be so cool... ANY QUESTIONS? I know that the gossip machine will make sure that everyone knows soon enough; please use it, because I am really not up to telling every single person I know. Here's the news. My dad, as you may know, got pneumonia thanks to a recent trip to come see me & Freddie, and thus was sent to the hospital to be put into intensive care. This was for all its grim appearance a positive occurance, because it happily put him at the top of the liver list, and pneumonia is not particularly troublesome when in one of the world's best hospitals. As the pneumonia started to disappear, everything seemed great, or at least as close to great as things were likely to come, under the circumstances. Then today we got the startling news that his kidneys have stopped making urine the way they're supposed to. This puts his chances for a new liver much lower and therefore has put his life in serious jeopardy. As we may never be able to talk to him again Freddie and I and almost certainly Hendrik are heading out to California to see him. Therefore, you will not see me for a little while, and those of you I know only through e-mail will get none for a bit. Ms. Shea, I have not done either the Sula paper or the tragedy readings, I trust you will forgive me for not caring one whit. Do not worry about me; I am the most cold-hearted motherfucker to ever grace this earth, and I have a little switch inside me to turn on and off emotions like you would a circuit breaker. The passing of my father would be rather terrible, but he has had an impossibly rich life, filled with true love and heroin addiction and everything inbetween, and the only real regret I'd feel is never having taken the opportunity to ask him everything. I have not in all my eighteen years tapped into a fourth of his knowledge. And now I might never have the opportunity. Most people feel that they did not show enough affection to someone when they died, but I know I did. Instead, please worry about my brothers, who would be destroyed by Daddy's death, just as hard as they were destroyed by my mother's. Tammy and I gained the wisdom or strength or fucked-uppedness or whatever to channel our feelings positively, it is not something Freddie and Hendrik have ever had much of a handle on. Worry about them; worry about them. Also worry about my father. If you are the praying type, your prayers might be the last thing to save him. I will be praying, to my own personal pantheon, to Athena and Morpheus and Shakespeare and the Hand of Fate and Kurt Cobain; I will do my best to ask for help from the gods others believe in too. It appears to be up to them. I always told Daddy, he should never have gotten married and gotten medicine; all he needed was Bali, moving there would have been his salvation. The proverbial shit has hit the fan, and I am as usual feeling the breeze. Hamlet said that the readiness is all, he was right, and I have done my best to always be ready. I tell you this, I will not change, I refuse to alter my ambitions, I am going to college and Paris and the Senior Ball. You may think me cold, and I am, but I have never cared what anyone thinks in the end. I cannot ask for anything from you, except perhaps a letter to Kate Moss asking if she'd someday come and say hi to me; I know the secret is in her eyes, I've caught a glimpse but did not have time to read it fully. It was in Mommy's eyes, it is in Pak Rajeg's, it will show up in Kerste's eventually, I'd stake my life on the guess that it was in Kurt's and John Lennon's too. My problem is, I never look long enough, and by the time I remember to, it's always too late. I'll see you all soon enough. Oh yes, I have one more thing to ask. When next you greet me, do it with a smile. I could not bear it otherwise. I don't know why people seem to think that people can only feel one emotion at the time, but what I'm most afraid of, if my dad does die, is that I'll lose the friendships I have with all of you, and get stupid, crappy, inferior, one-dimensional ones in return. I love all of you. All of you. Please don't alter yr perceptions of me. I want to go on writing about silly nothings with kt and playing wacky word games with Vi and having combination serious/seriously goofy talks with Tim and loving the things Eamonn says so much that I want to just hug the words and snapping back and forth obscure 80's references with Michele and pissing off the Angry-Psychos (BTW: Michele, if you can, I bet the APs would appreciate it if you could bring them up to speed on what's been going on w/my dad. If you can't don't sweat it, I gave them enough info in this very post) and doing exactly what I do with each of you exactly the same. In the words of the most magical man of the century, don't let me down... Hi, I'm Elizabeth from St. Louis in case any of you don't know me (I assume that most of you don't... I rarely post). Anyway, just wondering if any of you were from St. Louis. that's it. - --elizabeth ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Apr 1997 21:45:01 -0700 From: Clint Doyle Subject: AP Love??? Well fellow AP's, this is going to be my second to last post to this list for a while. I promise that I will write my review of the Richmond/DC show for all to see, but that will be it for a bit..... I have been on this list since around noon on Sunday October 27, 1996. The list was in it's infancy back then, and was an excellent outlet for POE news and to meet "friends". Well, now everyone seems to fight and bicker all the time. We are a dysfunctional family right now. Even though I really appreciate the POE information, I don't think I can be part of a list that doesn't respect a persons opinion. Everyone has one, and they should be respected. To all the AP's out there that supported me with private and public support, and in the chatroom, thanks :) It is people like you that make this decision hard..... I haven't decided whether I will drop off the list completely or not, but I won't be posting, not that I really posted a lot :( I am an Angry-PsYcHo and will continue to be an Angry-PsYcHo. Hope to see my "friends" from the list at future concerts. I may even have the will to travel halfway across the country again someday......
