Not only that, but it will scramble any disks that are even close to your computer. It will recalibrate your refrigerator's coolness setting so all your ice cream goes melty. It will demagnetize the strips on all your credit cards, screw up the tracking on your television and use subspace field harmonics to scratch any CD's you try to play. It will give your ex-girlfriend your new phone number. It will mix Kool-aid into your fishtank. It will drink all your beer and leave its socks out on the coffee table when there's company coming over. It will put a dead kitten in the back pocket of your good suit pants and hide your car keys when you are late for work. Goodtimes will make you fall in love with a penguin. It will give you nightmares about circus midgets. It will pour sugar in your gas tank and shave off both your eyebrows while dating your girlfriend behind your back and billing the dinner and hotel room to your Discover card. It will seduce your grandmother. It does not matter if she is dead, such is the power of Goodtimes, it reaches out beyond the grave to sully those things we hold most dear. It moves your car randomly around parking lots so you can't find it. It will kick your dog. It will leave libidinous messages on your boss's voice mail in your voice! It is insidious and subtle. It is dangerous and terrifying to behold. It is also a rather interesting shade of mauve. Goodtimes will give you Dutch Elm disease. It will leave the toilet seat up. It will make a batch of Methanphedime in your bathtub and then leave bacon cooking on the stove while it goes out to chase gradeschoolers with your new snowblower. Listen to me. Goodtimes does not exist. It cannot do anything to you. But I can. I am sending this message to everyone in the world. Tell your friends, tell your family. If anyone else sends me another E-mail about this fake Goodtimes Virus, I will turn hating them into a religion. I will do things to them that would make a horsehead in your bed look like Easter Sunday brunch. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ed ehunsing@bgsm.edu ed@poe.org `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` There are no strangers in this world, just friends we've never met. Hey folks, I wish you would stop and think (and maybe recall previous mail) before you forward a chain letter or 'virus warning' to the list. In general, they are all hoaxes. Don't ever, ever, ever forward a chain letter or a 'virus warning' to this list (or other lists). Tim Hunter posted this the last time it happened, and it has some good info in it. Please read: - -----Forwarded message from tim@Synopsys.COM (Tim Hunter)----- First, let me assure you all that the previously posted warning about a virus in a message with the subject of "PENPAL GREETINGS" is a hoax(*). Please do not forward this "warning" to anyone else. [From an email by M. Strata Rose, Postmaster at Synopsys] Letters about new viruses on the Internet have a way of becoming chain letters, and are generally full of misinformation. Please check with your systems administrator or help line before forwarding any letters concerning viruses. Official notifications of new viruses are clearly labeled as such and include full information on the government or industry agency which has issued the alert. Please do not forward chain letters, even "for a good cause". Almost every chain letter asking for emails, postcards, etc on the behalf of someone has turned out to be either misinformation [true once, but true no longer] or an outright hoax. Chain letters are not just a pain or an amusement -- they can cause real problems. Many Internet providers will pull a person's account for forwarding chain letters; forwarding one to a friend can inadvertently get them into trouble. The huge size of the net means that chain letters can propagate geometrically and several well-known incidents of global Internet slowdowns have been traced to chain letters. Letters regarding business opportunities may be of questionable legality. I'll hop off my sysadmin soapbox now. Thanks for listening. tim *PS: more details available at: http://www.datafellows.com/v-descs/penpal.htm http://ciac.llnl.gov/ciac/CIACHoaxes.html - -----End of forwarded message----- Take care, Amato | Anthony Amato / AA@worldnet.att.net / Amato@poe.org / AAmato1@aol.com / AAmato@juno.com | | Angry Pyschos -- The Poe Mailing List | | angry-psychos-request@smoe.org | ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Apr 1997 20:26:12 -0400 (EDT) From: CMOwnby@aol.com Subject: SA show... Well Tony and I left Lawrence, Kansas at 6:48pm on Friday night to begin our journey to San Antonio, psyched and fully armed with a video camera and a 'Honk if you like POE' sign taped to my back window. At 11:11pm CST we had a 'moment of silence' in appreciation of the fact that POE was more than likely on stage in Pomona at that time (I think we even video-ed the moment). At midnight we played the entire one and a half hour POE in Las Vegas cassette, of course, screaming/singing the whole thing at the top of our lungs (umm... I think I have permanent ear damage) and reminiscing of our last Poe trip. We got to my sister's apartment in Fort Worth at 3:15am (a bit slap-happy by this point). My sister came home at about 4am in a not-quite-sober state. After a few short hours of sleep we left Fort Worth at 9:18am; my sister (who will be refered to as 'Abby' in the future) still in a not-quite-sober state, promptly fell asleep in the back seat. At 12:36 we picked up Michaela in Austin, stopped for lunch, and arrived at our hotel in San Antonio (*whew*) at 3:05pm. Miraculously, all four of us showered and got ready in an hour, and headed to Tomatillos Restaurant, where we were meeting 20 other APs (including friends of APs) at 4:30 for dinner. At the restaurant, we handed out buttons and t-shirts (which were white with purple ink), took pictures, videotaped everone, and ate. Both of our waiters complained about not being able to go to the concert because they were working, and one waiter wanted a POE button, which he put on his apron! We all hung out at Tomatillos until about 6:30, and then headed on to the concert. We hid our cameras well before going in; a good thing because they made us walk through a metal detector and searched our bags! We walked in, and the first thing I noticed was that they were selling radiofree's Angry-Psychos/POE jackets at the t-shirt vender stand ($35)! So there were all these fans walking around with AP jackets on... perty cool. Later I saw Toby Skard standing by the vender looking at the jackets, and he commented that HE requested that they order them from radiofree. They apparently sold very well too. Soon Tom Jordan (texas AP) found a group of us and introduced me to Kevin Vargus, who works at the KISS radio station who put on the concert. I had been exchanging emails with him regarding the APs coming in town for the show, and it turns out he is a really big Poe fan and had a lot to do with her headlining this concert! I handed out more POE buttons and some fliers to him and another guy who worked backstage. I also got hooked up with Billy (Poe's road manager), and confirmed arrangements for us to meet up with the band after the show. Everything was going as planned... From this point, Tony, Michaela, and I started working the crowd, handing fliers and talking to anyone with POE gear on... then later to anyone who would talk to us! My sister commented, "Emily, how come you can walk up to random people here and start talking to them, but you wont do that at a bar?". Hmmm... I guess my inhibitions were blinded by the mission I was on. Poe evangelism!!! Everyone we talked to (with only one exception: poor misguided souls) was really excited about the info and claimed to LOVE poe. The t-shirt vender let us put a stack of fliers up at their counter to that anyone buying a POE tshirt would see them too. Soon we had people from the crowd seeking US out because they had seen others with fliers and wanted one. Lots of people also asked how they could get AP shirts like the one we had on... Cocky... ? Think they would want to sell our AP shirts since they want to sell the AP jackets? This next part is kinda traumatic. Up till this point, Tony and I had been too busy working the crowd to see any of the show. But it was getting too dark to hand out fliers, and Better than Ezra was about to go on stage, so we migrated up to about the 4th row of people near the stage and waited. We felt pretty cool about getting such a close view on such late arrival, but no sooner did BTE start playing than the crowd of high school kids around us work themselves up into an inhuman frenzy. We were being pushed and pulled and bumped and hit so much that I could hardly stay on my feet, let alone keep ahold of my bag. It was ridiculous... noone was even watching the band because they were too busy throwing each other around. For those of you who went to Vegas... imagine that level of moshing combined with the feeling of being put in a washing machine on 'tumble' with a bowling ball. Needless to say, we did not bring my full body armor and HAD to get out of there to avoid being pummeled to death. Here's the catch... you COULDNT get out because if you tried to push your way out they pushed you back in. It was a nightmare. I have never wished I carried a gun so much in my life. FINALLY, 20 bruises later, Tony managed to pull us both out of the masses. Ahhh... I finally had a little elbow room. BUT NO!!! I wasnt safe! I suddenly found myself in a circle of guys who were having quite a good time just shoving each other back and forth. Apparently, I was wearing a sign that said 'I am a girl and weigh 60 pounds less than you so you should kick my ass'. Yes, I promptly got shoved on my ass HARD (on asphalt, I might add) by some guy. At this point, I was seeing stars. Where the hell was that oozie when I needed it? I really thought I was going to die right there, trampled. SOME guardian angel, I still dont know who, busted into the ring of guys and pulled me off the ground and to safety. Needless to say, I needed a beer after that experience. I decided it was time to check out the backstage action. I walked back there, and talked to Toby, Cameron, and Jones. Jones said they were nervous because they were doing a totally different set list for the first time. He also said he couldn't believe they were headlining the concert instead of Better than Ezra. I quickly assured him that that BTE had NOTHING over them. Cameron offered to take me up to their dressing room to talk to Poe, so I said 'no thanks'. Yeah right!!!! So I went up and talked to her for about 5 minutes... showed her Vegas pics and gave her an AP shirt. I warned her about the terrors of the mosh pit and my near death experience, since she usually stage-dives. She also mentioned how they were nervous about the new set list... they were starting with an acoustic version of Fingertips. wow. Also, Tyler... she says you still owe her that tuxedo!!! This was about 15 min before she had to be on stage, so she didnt have long to chat, but I was glad that she now knew there were 25 APs out in the audience. I went back out to the audience to watch with Tony, Abby, and my friends from SA who met us there. Poe's voice was the best I have ever heard it, especially during the acoustic version of Fingertips. Tony and I tried to remember the new set list.... we think it goes something like this: Fingertips (acoustic), Choking, Hello, Control (the new song they are trying out for the Batman soundtrack), Anything (also new, not on the album), Fly Away, That Day, Dolphin, Beautiful Girl, Angry Johnny, THJ, How Long. This may not be exactly right... so if anyone knows otherwise please correct me. They didnt play Junkie or A Rose is a Rose. Poe commanded the audience even more than I have seen in the past. Put back to back with Better than Ezra, there was just NO comparison. At one point she scaled the support pole for the lights to throw a drum stick into the audience. She stage-dived on the very edge of the stage after Control, but didnt stage-dive during Dolphin like she usually does. She probably could sense the frenzied animalistic nature of the crowd. Several people had to be dragged flailing off stage for various psychotic activities. At one point, Billy just shoved some guy off a 6 foot tall barrier he was climbing up to get to the stage! Poe handled all this very well though, and didnt let these morons interfere with her show. Tony and I actually found a spot to stand that had a low fatality rate, and had a blast dancing around / singing / screaming during the show. Dont let my ranting about the moshers distract from the fact that this was the best I had ever heard Poe sound. The stage was awesome, with ivy covered pillars on both sides and a rock cliff behind it. She had on black pants and a kind of purple and blue tight tank top, and was playing to a sold-out crowd of 5,000. After the show we got wristbands from Billy and went backstage. While we were waiting backstage for the band to finish with their post-concert meeting, a reporter from the local FOX station came up to me and Tony and said they wanted to interview us later for a show called 'The Scene' because they had heard about the Angry-Psychos! I could feel my 15 minutes of fame approaching... Billy escorted us to their dressing room, and we had about 45 minutes to hang out with Poe until the security guard was going to lock up the building. It was like 'story time with Poe'. She sat in a chair with APs sitting Indian style around her and signed everything and answered questions. She said that she wants to somehow give all the current APs "VIP status" so when this gets huge we will still be able to hang with her and everything. Jarrod... any ideas? She also said she wants to throw a huge AP party on Dec 31, 1999. She told us about 'Control' as a contender for the Batman soundtrack (written for an evil character played by Uma Thurman), and how the Warner Bros guys loved it, but then hired 4 'consultants' to listen to it, who said it was too 'dark'. To this, Poe sarcastically replied, "oh, let me get out my Celene Dion repretoir then". heh heh. I mean, the song IS for an evil character. While this was going on, the FOX station was videotaping her talking to the APs and asked her a few questions too. Then the reporter asked if she could interview me and Tony, so she asked us about the APs and we talked to the camera for a few minutes. She gladly gave me her email and phone number so we could get a copy of the raw footage. The security guard was locking up the building, so we had to end the evening after taking tons of pictures. I thanked Billy (for about the 4th time), and he shook my hand and said "I'll see you next time". You sure will, Billy! The other really cool thing that happened was that on our way home, actually as we drove back into Lawrence, I called up the local alternative radio station (this was about 1:30am) on my cell phone and told them we had just driven 13 hours to see Poe and could she PLEASE play some for us. Three songs later... Angry Johnny comes on the radio, ending as we pulled into my driveway. What a perfect way to end a perfect trip. We are doing it.
