It's the lovely and talented Poe. Put on some headphones, pull up a microphone and join us for a bit of conversation. Poe: Hello hello, how are you doing, let's converse. RW: OK. Where should we start? What do you want to talk about? Poe: Let's start with your dress. RW: My dress? Do you like it? Poe: The audience is applauding you. RW: It's a sequin number, it's the only one that fits me, really Poe: It's gorgeous. RW: What have you been up to? Poe: Oh, we've been touring and working on some music for an Activision game called Apocalypse. RW: Uh-huh, are you a big gamer? Poe: Yeah, I get to play the Plague in this one. RW: You're the character The Plague? How is that done? Poe: Well the evil Reverend transmutes his energy into the four deadly horsemen of the Apocalypse: death, famine, war, and the plague, and I control all pop culture! RW: Oh my god, is this like a Doom kinda thing? Poe: Totally, only Bruce Willis is the lead! RW: Did you get to work with him, or was this done like separately? Poe: No, cause they all do it separately, yeah. I actually haven't shot it yet, but I'm going to do that. RW: Can you do your plague voice? Poe: Well...it's kinda like it is now, really hoarse! RW: You don't do any special character then. Poe: I don't know, I haven't done it yet, I think it will evolve. I'm not sure, I don't even know my lines yet. RW: It seems like you're constatly on tour. When are you guys going to take a break, what's the deal here? I mean you wouldn't be so hoarse if you had a break every now and then. Poe: Oh stop being so rational. You're a man. RW: I can't help that. Poe: We're taking a break soon. We're going to go back to LA tonight, and then take a little time off and think about whether we want to stop and make a record or release another single, we're not sure. RW: I'm sure that the powers that be want you to make another record. Poe: Yeah, they're not sure though. RW: Really, why are they not sure they want you to make another record?? Poe: No they do, but they think they want us to probably tour more and release another single. RW: Yeah, what would that be? I mean the original single we played at Live 105 was Trigger Happy Jack, and I know I've talked to some of the record people--they want us to focus on that again. Poe: We're not gonna do that. I don't see the point. The people that got it early got it early. RW: Ok. *We* got it early! Poe: And you guys rule. RW: Yeah, no, you rule. Thanks for coming down, I know Alex is just enamored with you, every time you come on, he loves you to death. Poe: He is the coolest. I'm making a movie about him, in my head. RW: Really, what's it going to be called? Poe: It's called, uh, Donuts and Coffee, and it's also about, um, Dr. Drew and Adam from Loveline. It's going to be the alternative talk show host movie. RW: Isn't Dr. Drew the greatest? I worked with him ages ago in Los Angeles. Poe: I love that guy. And I love Adam too, he's got the quickest wit. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 9 Mar 1997 02:59:58 -0500 (EST) From: VR5SBloom@aol.com Subject: Transcript of Poe interview, part 2 Toby (accented): How you feel about being on Live 105, live on the air? Poe: This is my bass player Toby calling. Toby: You like this? Poe: I like it very much. I like your accent better. RW: Take over Toby, you want to do some more? Poe: Do the interview, Toby! Jones: My name is Jones, and I'm just waiting to get into the inflateable jumping house up front, so uh... Poe: That's Jones, my drummer. Poe: Yeah, last night Toby took a leap into the front of the bus window from the inside, missed the stair with his foot, and broke the entire window. With his hard, fat head. RW: Oh you got a lump there, look at that. Poe: He has nothing, compared to the fall. He's got the hardest head on the planet. I would be dead. RW: Where were you guys coming from last night? Poe: Well Toby certainly won't remember, but I think it was Las Vegas, perfect place to be wild. RW: What's your favorite place to play? What town do you like, love coming to? Poe: I love coming to San Francisco actually, to run around, but I hate to say this, but the kickingest shows I've done have been Austin, Texas and Cleveland. Austin's amazing, and the crowds are just insane. RW: Your last show here was I think at Bimbo's, I thought it sounded great. Poe: Yeah, it was a blast. I loved that show. Those are really the top 3, and I'm not just saying that. RW: And where are you off to next? Sign some autographs, meet your fans? Do you like that part? Poe: I do actually, I've made some really cool friends along the way, from exactly that. And I make these friends and then they're always in the front row of the shows and I know them all, and it's cool. RW: That's what I notice at the Bimbo's show, more than anything else, there's like just this whole group, you had your own little fan club right there, knew all the words, waiting for you to do all the certain tricks and jump out, et cetera. Poe: Actually, some of them have started a club on the Internet called the Angry Psychos, at www.poe.org, and 30 of them flew from all over the country yesterday to Las Vegas, and they had these Angry Psycho t-shirts on, clothes, hats, buttons, more than the label's ever given me. But they're the ones that called me and said "I heard you're playing Vegas and San Francisco" and I said when? They know before I know, so if anyone's interested in that, it's pretty cool, not just cause of me, because they're really cool people. RW: That's the unofficial Poe page? Poe: I'm making it the official one. It kicks Atlantic's butt, I just have to say, it's true. RW: Do you have any input into your page? Poe: Yeah, I'm on it all the time. They created this little special handle for me so I can't be impersonated, and I dropped in at like 2 in the morning the other night, and there was one guy there named PlatRat, who's going to prison on Monday, so we gave him tickets to Las Vegas, and he flew in, got snowed in in Chicago, and made the show by a half an hour. But you know, these are the stories you remember for the rest of your life, so I'm on there all the time, it's a great site. And they have links to a lot of other cool stuff. RW: Fabulous web talk. Poe: Well, you're wearing a pocket protector, so you shouldn't talk. RW: In my sequined dress, ladies and gentlemen, go and figure that one out. RW: Did you say what the next single's gonna be, or did we even... Poe: I think it might be "Fly Away" but we might release it in conjunction with an EP that has all the live versions like the live versions of Johnny that haven't been available, and all that stuff on it. RW: You're so different on stage than you are on the record. Poe: That's why I wanna release the EP with all the band versions, so they're all out there, cause we really evolved over the last year, into something else. I think we'll keep doing that though, now we're doing all these weird dance mixes of "Hello" just cause we're bored with this! RW: Who's doing that, are you guys remixing yourselves... Poe: Some of it ourselves, and then this other guy, E-Smoov...but you know what people don't understand is if you play the same songs for a year, you want to reinvent them, to keep them fresh so it's fun to do all these weird things but I figure we should put them out now cause there's so many of them. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 09 Mar 1997 11:47:25 -0600 (UTC -06:00) From: Emily Skitek Subject: Poe related: Vegas report! Hi. I just got back from Vegas late last night and thought y'all might want a report. A lot of us got there Thursday night and hung out at the Luxor casino till all hours of the night. We caught about 4 hours of sleep... then up again for some more gambling and sight seeing. At about 3:30 we headed over to the Hard Rock Casino, decked out in our yellow Angry-Psychos T-shirts that Cocky had made for us (we got more than a few stares!). Clint Doyle and I were one of the first ones to arrive outside the restaurant, and as we were standing there Cameron Stone walks by, does a double take after seeing our shirts, and comes over to say hi. Pretty soon other APs showed up and so does Toby, Daris, and Jones. We all stood around talking for a while, and the band signed our shirts. Then a few minutes later, Poe herself walks by, I think on the way back from a radio interview, but she didnt stop. We sit down at the restaurant to order dinner, and pretty soon Poe comes back and hangs out and signs stuff for probably 45 minutes before she is summoned to do the sound check. She didn't want to go, but said she would be back in 15 minutes... by the time she returned most of us were already in line to get front row spots at the concert. During the concert, she announced that the APs were here and presented us with a gold album replica of her CD all framed and everything (I never got to see this up close... what happened to it?). Jones wore his yellow AP t-shirt during the show, Poe had on one of our POE-angry-psychos buttons, and she wore the white POE/Angry-Psychos jacket that RadioFree sent her during That Day. She also had the jacket on after the show and it looked really good. After the show, they let the just APs go upstairs to a private area (this was about 10:30pm) and we got to hang out with Poe, the record label guys, and the band until 12:15pm, when the Modern guys told Poe that they HAD to leave for San Fransisco. She was upset that they couldnt spent the night in Vegas, but the record label guys were set on their schedule. During the post-show thing, we made this huge AP pyramid with Poe at the top and took pictures. She was SOOOO nice and made sure every single person had everything they wanted signed. Poe said after she's rich she will throw a huge party just for the APs : ). It was an absolutely perfect trip, and I had more fun than I ever imagined. By the second night, I felt like Id been hanging out with the APs there for a month. Jeez, and now Im back in Kansas and getting lonely and depressed thinking about Vegas. Im thinking reunion time already. If anyone has specific questions about the trip or other things Poe talked about I would be happy to e-mail you, but I see this post is getting very long so I will stop here. The band REALLY appreciates our support (as does Modern Records) Poe chooses to be with us. The weekend was a complete success and I will still remember Vegas '97 when Im 99 yrs old. A funny thing happened on my way to the convention center last night. My girlfriend and I were driving down Van Ness Ave and pulle dup to a stoplight. I looked over to the right and saw some very Toby looking hair, with Toby standing directly under it. I didn't think it was him since we were running late for the show (Two stalled cars on the Golden Gate). As were were watching A Flock Of Seagulls, Toby walked by us and went into the sound area. After we got our fill of the 80's, we walked back to get in line for the Poe autograph session. To give those of you who have not had the thrill of meeting Poe (this was only my second time) a rough idea of how cool she is... They (Poe, Toby, and Jones) were at the able after two members of Space. The line got so backed up because Poe spent alot of time with each and every person who wanted to spend alot of time with her, that the security people had to re form the line after people were done with Space. I was shocked that Poe even had a vague memory of me, but she told me that I looked familiar. When I told her that I was an Angry Psycho she got extra happy and told me that we rock. She said that she was writing WWW.POE.ORG on everyones autographs! Needles to say, the show was great. There was a guy there from Live 105 dressed like Devo and Poe had him come out and sing Whip It. It was the first time that I heard Whip It preformed with a cello! Did anyone else go? She is so wonderful to her fans, it sounds like, and she must really love us! What other artist is that dedicated? Name one. She remembers people, too, not just the hardest of the hardcore fans. What a treasure we have in her. So when ya comin' out to the East, Poe? You've got plenty of fans out here who'd love to see you. DC, New York, Philly-some of the largest metro areas around. If you play, we will come. On singles: "Dolphin" is probably the best choice, although "Padre Fear" would be a good release. It's got "the sound" of modern music to it and could probably pick up some Garbage fans. You'd get more sales, albeit to trendoids, but at least it'd give Poe some exposure. Hey everyone - Well, how was Vegas? I read someone's acct, and it sounded like so much fun, you guys are so lucky!! I hope I get to meet Poe this summer if she comes to St. Louis. I will try my best! About those pins of Poe at the online Pin stand - I found the site, but found no pins for Poe. Whoever got them, can you email me and tell me the numbers so I can order them? Thanks! My choice for the next single would have to be Dolphin too. I also think that it should be released with How Long as a B side. Here is my top 5 reasons why Poe rocks 5. "Padre Fear" 4. The entire Hello CD 3. her laugh is funny!=) 2. she went as the plague for halloween 1. HOW MUCH SHE LOVES THE ANGRY PSYCHOS, and how nice she was to all the Vegas people! Wishing I was older (so I could have went to Vegas), Jill *~*Burning holes in all your clothes*~* - B*U*S*H *~*Can't talk to a psycho like a normal human being*~* - Poe *~*I'm tied to the track, I'm waiting for you to rescue me*~* No Doubt *~*We're going to the liquor store!*~* - The Urge *~*I only smile in the dark*~* - Garbage ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 09 Mar 1997 22:59:16 -0500 From: fLeUrIsPsYcHo Subject: I'm gonna quit lurking now... I've been on for about 2 weeks now, and I have only been lurking. But since my friend Jennifer finally got on here I guess we are gonna have to start showing our support for POE, and trying to get her down to where we live!!! I live in Greensboro, N.C. and I'm the one who gave her the tape. We have a little saying where we work. We work at Sears, which is a big, big, bridge with a broken beam (management) and we are gonna be dolphins and survive. But, I'll be damned if that broken beam doesn't harpoon us first. (Ain't that right Jen?!?!?) I'm 18 and I go to UNCG. I dj at the college station, and I hang out sometimes at our local station WXRA 94.5 and I try to get them to play POE songs or get her down here. They were trying to arrange a show for her but it fell through, so I'm gonna see what I can do, 'cause if I don't get to see her live I'm gonna scream!! I first saw Poe on Alternative Nation and I got the CD soon after. Fingertips and That Day are my fav. Poe songs. Try getting intimate while Fingertips is playing. Heightened experience, but that's another story... (Jen don't ask) Other music I adore. Tori Amos!!! Fiona Apple!!! The awesomest tour would be POE, Torii and Fiona. Everyone would come away emotionally revamped. Imagine if they all collaborated on a track??? Well that's all for now. Talk to all later. Oh yea, I also love the X-Files... ************************************************************************ "These precious things, let them bleed, let them wash away, these precious things, let them break their hold over me." I was also wondering, what was going on in the idea of a present for Poe? I think we should do something cool that a lot of us contribute to.. lie I remember hearing that the Pumpkins list made a quilt or something for Billy.. I'm not sure exactly... but maybe a book of drawings, poems, etc...Have any other suggestions been made? I'd be willing to organize this shebang.. then it would just be a matter of getting it to Poe herself.. lemme know guys and gals... (I'm so happy.. there's two more Angry-Psychos in NC! woohoo! :) Ed *** ehunsing@bgsm.edu ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 9 Mar 1997 23:32:35 -0600 (CST) From: "Joseph H.
