Re: TAN -PR0death view on suicide- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Thu, 23 Jan 1997 20:59:39 -0500 From: eskitek@eagle.cc.ukans.edu (Emily Skitek) Subject: Excerpt from an interview with Poe This is an excerpt from an interview with Poe; I hope it isn't old news. The whole thing can be found at http://www.musiccentral.msn.com/ThisWeekIn/Features/PoeIntro010997.htm (or I would be happy to e-mail the rest to you). Sorry it is so long, but I thought what Poe had to say was really cool. What do you all think about her comments? You can e-mail me privately if you want.- Emily [POE] Yeah, and it was a horrible realization to realize the better that you are at something as a woman and the more successful you become, the less attractive you become to men. [Question] I do think that there's that threat of accomplishment. [POE] There's still that "I want to save the damsel in distress. How do I handle my male ego if this girl's got her shit together? How do I feel needed, how do I feel like the hero on the white horse?" [Question] In one way you've infiltrated both camps, because you are extremely beautiful, yet you have this toughness about you. I think the thing that will give your career longevity is the fact that you work both of them. [POE] There was this review of the show we did in New Haven in Rolling Stone. It was our first Rolling Stone review, and the guy was tearing me to shreds basically for the fact that I seemed to be enjoying myself onstage. Actually, he got it wrong; because if I'm on stage singing "I want to kill you, I want to blow you away" and there's something about my performance that's tortured or victimized, it's not as threatening. It's more threatening to see someone on stage loving what they do, connecting with the audience and being fully in control of those words. [Question] That's so true. That is the bigger threat. [POE] That's way threatening. Fuck, man, she sang the shit and she's smiling? The "angry young women" title has always bothered me because I feel like it's another title which is requiring women to be incomplete. It's like if you listen to the records of all these people, these women that are categorized that way, there are a lot of emotions on these records, and not that many of them are actually about anger. ~ AMEN ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Jan 1997 22:29:21 EST From: agentorange2@juno.com (Rusty M Shelby) Subject: "hello".... single to be released on 2/11/97 hello angry-psychos..... the cd and cassette single for "hello" (band version) is due to be released nation wide on February 11, 1997! the retail list price for both cd and cassette will be $3.49 i have no other information about this release. i do not know what other tracks will be included... let's just keep our fingers crossed that it's a 4-track (the most you can get away with at $3.49.... that's how garbage's "milk" was) - -rusty you can reach rusty at: agentorange2@juno.com or agentorange@mindspring.com come see me (& poe) and the pictures i took of her: http://www.enter.net/~husselman/poe.html http://www.europa.com/~lyza/music/poe.htm (click on "pictures") please help support R.A.I.N.N.: http://home.sprynet.com/sprynet/xenomorph/rainn.htm ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Jan 1997 22:37:44 -0500 (EST) From: Splinter6@aol.com Subject: Re: TAN -PR0death view on suicide- In a message dated 97-01-23 22:30:22 EST, you write: << you have bad genes. Well I think it will be good for POE to play bigger places i rather her tour with somebody else beside BUSH (maybe a band who been around a but longer and has respect..) It will be cool of POE can openen up for REM or something like that... Well I do have problem with bands getting popular it kinda sucks.. I saw RANCID the first time they played in nyc (no it was not wetlands) it was at a club called ABC NO RIO.. it is a dump to say the least... it was 1993... and it was really cool....i do not think it was there best show tho.... Them i saw them in 1994 at a few clubs all sold out but they played small clubs still (500 people) then they started to do play clubs like Roseland for 2 sold out days (3000 people each night)... Yeah it did get me mad when it was hard to see a band i supported for a long time.... And the dumb jocks acted like fools... but i was happy for them... they worked hard on tour and lived on the streets for a long time..... And if you ever get to talk to anybody in the band (expect LARS is a rock star....and messed up the whole band) they are really cool people.... My friends went to find him while i stayed to watch the other kids. Then i got this call "Tell my mom i love her" click! i turns out that the kid was about to jump off a bridge. Thankfully my friends got there with someone to talk him down.now he's in a hosptial bed somewhere. When the cops came by to have me anwser some questions i found out that a kid he knew recently killed himself the same way. now the kids he went to school with respect him for "take his life into his own hands" It somehow became cool to kill yourself.
