But you make proclamations which cannot be backed up with evidence--I've often wondered myself if AIDS isn't Nature's response to human exploitation of the earth, but the fact is, you can't possibly prove it; therefore, stating it as a fact is inappropriate and more than a little silly. While certain types of suicidal ideation may be chemically based--and here I'm assuming that you meant bad "genes" when you wrote: "By living you are only causing sadness in the world and prolonging the elimination of bad jeans" (I'm guessing that Levis really *don't* trouble you)--it's doubtful that there's *any* evidence linking suicide specifically to genetics. Your comments, therefore, are, in this regard, not very thoughtful and certainly not sensitive. Anguish, rather, or helplessness--emotional, not genetic states--are the conditions under which suicide is usually contemplated. Because of the social pressures of growing up, of the physical changes which can be drastic, and the subtle but sure "leaving the nest", adolescents are especially vulnerable to suicidal feelings. Loss of a loved one--through divorce, death, etc.--can also lead to those feelings. Painful feelings invoked by physical, verbal, or sexual abuse, or by the rejection of peers or family, are more likely to provoke suicidal tendencies than any DNA molecule (DNA refers to genetics--wasn't sure you'd know that). To assume that anyone who is suicidal is "genetically-challenged" as you seem to suggest ignores the vast contributions in the arts, in politics, and in philosophy that have been made by people who ultimately did themselves in. I doubt, for instance, that you are genetically superior to Vincent Van Gogh, or that your contribution to humanity will ever equal his; I doubt that you are genetically superior to the poets, Sylvia Plath or Anne Sexton. Your argument smacks of neo-nazi nonsense. Think before you speak, please! Join the human race. Thanks Robby! To add to Robby's offer to get people organized, I will make contact and work with Modern Records to see if we can arrange GUARANTEED meetings between POE and her Angry-Psychos (some sort of list before the shows, etc.) THIS IS NO GUARANTEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is the stuff that I forsee possible with the AP's and POE.ORG. I need to get the Record company to understand that this is POE's group of loyal FANS... When they understand that, then meeting POE will be possible, VERY possible, because you are an Angry-Psycho. Please remember the possibility of POE.ORG: "For POE to be with us" I am taking it to the next level.... The possibility of The Angry-Psychos: "For us to be with POE" Peace... I've followed the Goo Goo Dolls since 87 when they started and the first time I saw them play in a large venue was both a sad time and a happy one. Your glad someone you think is a great band/performer is getting recognition yet you'll never get the feeling of a small club show which beats any arena rock show. Hey angry psychos, I am on the Bush mailing list, and Poe is just ONE of the possibilites for an opener. Others include Moby, Girls Against Boys, Spain, and Fiona Apple. I really hope Poe does, cause it would get major exposure for her, and we all want her to be successful, right? I dont think she would forget the angry psychos!! If she did open for Bush, I would have to wear a bush mailing list shirt and an AP shirt! Please, I know alot of you on this list DONT like Bush, so PLEASE, dont email me saying, "Bush sucks",or whatever. We dont need negativity guys! I might get to see Poe 3X if she opens for Bush! Yea! MY TOP TEN 1. Bush - 16stone 2. No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom 3. Bush - Razorblade Suitcase 4. POE - Hello 5. The Urge - Recieving the gift of Flavor 6. No Doubt - Beacon St. Record 7. Fiona Apple - Tidal 8. Romeo and Juliet soundtrack 9. Made in the Middle - 2cd of Local bands 10. POE TAPE TREE ONE!! I LOVE IT SO MUCH! I am REALLY bored, (waiting for my friend to pick me up), so I am gonna talk about the times I saw Poe. The first time was in Aug of 96. I went to see her, having just heard the CD once, and being pretty familiar with Angry Johnny and Trigger happy Jack. Well, Poe came on, and I was in awe. She had such a good stage presence, and she sounded just like she did on the radio. I loved choking the cherry live, and trigger happy jack, the crowd was going nuts! She pointed to me like 4X or so, cause I am tall, and pretty easily seen if I jump or rase my arms. I thought she was so awesome! I bought a psycho shirt w/ a poe ball on the back, and wore it to school the next day. I have long hair, so everyone was asking me, "what does that mean", so I got to talk about the concert all day, it was cool. The next time I saw Poe was at the same venue, Mississppi Nights, and I think it was about 2 weeks before I became an angry psycho. It was the Point christmas show, and 5 bands were playing, Poe being the last. I only liked Tracy Bonham and Radio Iodine besides Poe, so I was getting REALLY tired of standing through boring bands. She finally came on, and my friends and I were shoved back by ignorant moshers. they played thier set, and came back on for an encore. My friend Michelle and I ran up right to the front, and she grabbed our hands, and I yelled "cool nails" but I doubt she heard me! I love seeing her at Mississppi Nights, it is the coolest place. I know there are some others on this list from STL, and I bet that they would agree! Well, I thinkg I will end this now, sorry if I bored all you! ~Jill ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ GlamorGirl@juno.com "i'll have that smoke now" ~ G. I've heard this idea of strong survive and the weak die as a view for many years. >myself if AIDS isn't Nature's response to human exploitation of the earth, but >the fact is, you can't possibly prove it; therefore, stating it as a fact is >inappropriate and more than a little silly. >Anguish, rather, or helplessness--emotional, not genetic states--are the >conditions under which suicide is usually contemplated. Now, why wouldn't this be genetics? Could you argue the case of the Hemingway family? Let's see here....Ernest Hemingway's father(or was it grandfather?) committed suicide as did Ernest himself later on in his life. Then his daughter Margaux followed in her father's footsteps of death. Is this genetics? A predisposition to suicide isn't all that farfetched. There are many other factors but it is clear that chemical imbalances cause the vast majority of suicidal tendencies. What causes these imbalances? Genetics? Possibly. In a sense, suicide is weeding out the weak genes of humankind in that those that can survive the overwhelming factors in their lives are destroyed. Those genes that put them in that state of suicidal thinking are gone with them. But I do agree that it is ridiculous to want to die because of weak genes. People contribute to world in more ways than they may ever realize during their lifetime....Kurt Cobain was a prime example. He didn't want the success that came upon him....the weight of fame was too heavy for him to bear....we all carry our burdens in hopes of one day having those burdens lifted from us.....may all find their way home without their candle being put out before it's time....
