Look, I don't mind a meat debate, but there are two problems with this one: 1) there are better places to hold 'em. 2) why, why, WHY can't you guys learn to snip yr quoted messages?!? It's so simple, and so courteous! Why do we have to read the same damn thing twenty times over? Why do I have to scroll down forever and pick out the good messages out of all the quoted nonsense? Why do I have to get my digest split into two pieces because it's so big? Arrgh! Anyway, despite all the above, I don't think that the party crasher was the real problem of the chat--it was that everyone was saying the same dumb stuff over and over again. "Do you remember me, Poe?" "Will you send me this or that, Poe?" "Will you call me, Poe?" I'm not trying to be mean. To me and anyone else who's a vegetarian for ethical reasons, the mere mention of eating meat is indeed offensive. It completely conflicts with one's moral code... as does raping babies. Raping babies, however, is something I thought would be universally offensive. That's precisely why I opted to bring it up as an example. I do not condone the rape of babies. I do not condone human consumption of meat. I do not condone racism. I do not condone sexism. I do not condone specieism. I do not condone "to each his own." There was a time, however, when I would've dismissed the things I didn't understand simply by saying, "to each his own." Then I finally realized that particular phrase allows every form of ignorance to perpetuate itself indefinitely. I'm Erik... my friends... which I assume you guys will become.... usually call me EJ... either will be fine... anyway... I've been a member of this little group for a total of about 4 hours, and so far... I'm only going to state two opinions: #1- Poe is one of the most talented artists I have ever had the pleasure of speaking with... of course there are only really two talented artists I've ever actually spoken to... Poe and Richard Patrick... neither of which probably even remember I exist, but I don't care... their conversations with me will remain in my brain for a very long time and have significant place there, along with my high school graduation party, and my girlfriend's phone number.... the point is... I really enjoyed meeting her, and finding out that some "rock stars" don't have that "rock star" ego that everyone talks about.... and of course, I love her music, otherwise I wouldn't have paid $15 to see her, and sit through an hour of 7mary3 and a half hour of arguing with my friends that my dj friend said the band would be out afterward to talk to us.... #2- Since religion has become a major topic here in Angry Psycho land... here's my view on religion... this is the one and only time you'll hear it from me... I believe there may or may not be a god and/or gods... I believe Buddha, Mohammed, Jesus, Moses, that Mormon guy, hell, even David Koresh were all extremely talented people, who for the most part (with the exceptiong of Koresh of course!) had good reason to gain the following that they had... (now don't start arguing that Koresh was right now...) they were all extremely intelligent, and told people very good things, things that can make a person better off, intellectually and spiritually... of course, I also believe that nature has it's own way of affecting people's lives, so I can also sympathsize with the "naturalistic" religions like the Wicken, and Pagans... I don't much agree with sacrificial or satanic religions... because I'm not sure I even believe satan exists, but satan does seem to symbolize the epitomy of evil in the world, and anyone who would willingly kill as a part of their religious practice is not really following a very structured religion.... And as far as fanatic religious folk.... I attend college with a neighbor who believes pretty much everything is against his religion... and needs to tell the world that everything is wrong... well... maybe it is... but i don't think any PERSON would have the right to tell others that.... maybe the god or gods should do that to clarify things.... maybe god or gods should visit the planet, negotiate the rules and set everyone straight.... then again.... maybe religion is just a man made concoction to steer actions a certain way... (For instance, I believe that certain parts, maybe even all of the book of mormon [no I'm NOT anti-mormon.... this is just an opinion] were written just so that the practice of polygomy could be seen as morally correct...) Anyway.... that's how I feel about religion.... Thanks for reading.... and if anyone wants a copy of the "Hello" promo disc, the radio station I work for (ACRN 99.3 caFM... now available in RealAudio) has a copy and I could get ahold of it and dub copies to tape if you want.... but it should be released soon enough on a domestic ep... at least that's what they heard from Atlantic records.... it might already be out.... i don't know.... well... it's 5:30 in the morning here.... and i haven't been asleep yet... so.... it was nice meeting you all... keep in touch.... ej ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 06 Jan 1997 07:04:47 -0800 From: mb882 Subject: TAN Arguement I was hoping the "meat thing would have run its course by now,and now youve done it!Drawn me into the swirling vortex of negativity.I dont care about meat, babies ,your mother OR your God-but when you start disparaging Crack Smoking AND White (or any other color)Cop Killing-THATS where I draw the line.Though I prefer my cocaine in powder form(Racist law structure less likely to imprison me for powder vs crack)I dont care what color a dead cop is cause dead ones are the ONLY good ones! Can we talk about Poe again? There is a computer virus that is being sent across the Internet. If you receive an e-mail message with the subject line "Good Times," DO NOT read the message, DELETE it immediately. Please read the messages below. Some miscreant is sending e-mail under the title "Good Times" nationwide, if you get anything like this, DON'T DOWN LOAD THE FILE! It has a virus that rewrites your hard drive, obliterating anything on it. Please be careful and forward this mail to anyone you care about. The FCC released a warning last Wednesday concerning a matter of major importance to any regular user of the Internet. Apparently a new computer virus has been engineered by a user of AMERICA ONLINE that is unparalleled in its destructive capability. Other more well-known viruses such as "Stoned," "Airwolf" and "Michaelangelo" pale in comparison to the prospects of this newest creation by a warped mentality. What makes this virus so terrifying, said the FCC, is the fact that no program needs to be exchanged for a new computer to be affected and spread through the existing e-mail systems of the Internet. Once a computer is infected, one of several things can happen. If the computer contains a hard drive, that will most likely be destroyed. If the program is not stopped, the computer's processor will be placed in an nth-complexity infinite binary loop - which can severely damage the processor if left running that way too long. Unfortunately, most novice computer users will not realize what is happening until it is far too late. Luckily, there is one sure means of detecting what is now known as the "Good Times" virus. It always travels to new computers the same way, in a text e-mail message with the subject line reading "Good Times." Avoiding infection is easy once the file has been received simply by NOT READING IT! The act of loading the file into the mail server's ASCII buffer causes the "Good Times" mainline program to initialize and execute. The program is highly intelligent - it will send copies of itself to everyone whose e-mail address is contained in a receive-mail file or a sent-mail file, if it can find one. It will then proceed to trash the computer it is running on. The bottom line is: If you receive a file with the subject line "Good Times," delete it immediately! Do not read it. Rest assured that whoever's name was on the "From" line was surely struck by the virus. Warn your friends and local system users of this newest threat to the Internet! It could save them a lot of time and money. PASS THIS WARNING ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW -- DO IT NOW !!!!! ***For those of you using Exchange: Be careful: if you run Exchange all the time on the status bar, you receive a message when new mail is received, do you want to read ? yes or no. say NO. If the virus carrying email is the first one in your stack it will be opened and read, and bye bye. By saying no and then clicking on the exchange on the status bar you will see the header information with the subject so you can scan and be sure that the bad file is not there. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Jan 1997 21:55:47 +0000 From: "Anthony Amato" Subject: NPC: Late Night Musical Guests Upcoming Guests on "The Late Late Show With Tom Snyder" PLEASE NOTE: Jon Stewart guest hosts on THE LATE LATE SHOW for the week of Jan. 20-24, 1996 Wednesday, January 22 Rap star Coolio ***Friday, January 24 Grammy Award nominee Jewel *** Wednesday, January 29 rock and roll legend Carl Perkins Dave's Guests Thursday, January 16 Grammy-nominated singer Baby Face Tuesday, January 21 singer David Bowie(Rebroadcast segments) Wednesday, January 22 No Doubt (Rebroadcast segments) Friday, January 24 Red Hot Chili Peppers (Rebroadcast segments) Monday, January 27 singer Sheryl Crow Wednesday, January 29 singer Tori Amos ***Thursday, January 30 singer Jewel *** Tonight Show With Jay Leno Friday, Jan. 17 Lyle Lovett Randy Newman. Maybe I shouldn't have used one of the words in that as I'll get my head chewed off. I am not stating my religion preference. I am not bickering about meat. I don't eat meat, but WHO CARES. If someone brought this up as a joke, fine, but I'm sick of it all. Everyone fights over every little thing. No one speaks of Poe. If the fighting doesn't stop soon, I'll remove myself from this list untill someone informs me it's over. And don't send little messages saying "Who cares about you" and all of that, 'cause I know a lot of people on this list do. STOP IT ALREADY. I would just like to start with the fact that I'm very serious about my subject, and thus I would like everyone to read every word I write. All we do is talk about: 1)meat 2)religion 3)other bands 4)shit Listen, does it matter to anyone that Poe would be ashamed of us if she saw the way we're behaving? DOES IT MATTER TO ANYONE??? Because it matters to me. I'm okay with a little bit of NPR, but now everyone has become obbsessed. Just because you put "TAN" in front of your subject does not mean that it's okay to start a whole debate that's going to cause my mailbox and my head to explode. I would like to make a proposition to all debaters out there. If you want to debate any of those four topics listed above (especially religion-- I thrive on that), then PLEASE e-mail me personally. I will answer each and every one of you civily and anyone who doesn't care won't have an exploding mailbox, exploding with what they consider "shit". Okay? I hope to hear from you people soon. By the way, I'm still very serious about my subject. EJ, if you came to a place to find out about Poe, then I have to say you've come to the wrong place. It started out okay, Poe loved us and all, but she'd be ashamed of us now. We are an embarassing fan club. All we do is debate our personal views on life, etc. I was hoping for a little more than the crap I get in my mailbox everyday, but I'm very dissappointed. I'd like to be able to tell you otherwise, but I never lie. Also, THE REASON I'M SENDING THIS MESSAGE TO EVERY ANGRY-PSYCHO IS BECAUSE: I want everyone to realize that Poe would be ashamed of us. She would be. Has anyone thought of that? POE WOULD BE ASHAMED!!! Does that mean anything to anybody? I mean really...
