Well, to all the angry psychos out there... SORRY. I've been on this list or a long time, and have never written. But now I am, I figure I'll actually write more than once a day now, but who cares... I have a few questions for everyone out there. First of all, I have seen Poe, once and only once, and that was Sept. 28 at Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel in Providence. My question is, if anyone caught her during this leg of the tour, did you catch Fluffer? I'm basically obsessed with that band now... just wondering what everyone else thought if they did see them... Okay, secondly, I was wondering if anyone knew when Poe was coming back to the area... any dates for massachusetts or rhode island would be great... Well, I guess I didn't have too much to say or ask, but it's a start... Let me know if any of you know anything... okay? - -Eric Lander >> LunarLanda@aol.com P.S.> Landon, wish your sister the best of luck for me... I know the effects this can have on a family, but everything will be fine. If you guys can answer this, than I will finially be able to start doing the dubbing on Rewind '96! :) Can you put two tapes inside the bubble envelopes? CD-IT tapes are thin, so I think two together is about 1 1/4 times the size of a normal cassette tape. Whaddya think? Thanks again, John P.S. Thanks to everyone for all their responses!! I don't even know if I'm doing this right. Well, John, if you buy 9" by 7" bubble mailers and stick in the tapes sideways, three will fit in one however tight it will be. The tape at the end of the envelope will be in jeopardy of being smashed though, so I think two tapes in one is better. I don't know what CD-IT tapes are though so if they're smaller, more will fit. Enjoy! > >http://www.musiccentral.msn.com/ThisWeekIn/Features/PoeIntro010997.htm > >Roger Here it is Poe realized what her calling in life was to be early on. When she was eight years old she wrote her first song, a protest song of sorts about being sent to the principal's office after attempting a blood-bonding ritual with a classmate. Back then, she was Annie Danielewski, the New York-born daughter of Emmy award-winning filmmaker Tad Danielewski, and by the time the song was written, she had already lived a nomadic lifestyle, following her father to film locations in Spain, India, and Africa. During her travels, the young girl spent her time creating poems, plays, and songs with her brother (novelist Mark Danielewski). They returned to New York only to move again, this time to Provo, Utah. Annie, now going by the name Poe (thanks to a childhood obsession with one of Edgar Allen Poe's books), eventually went back to New York, and lived in squats before being accepted to Princeton University. While studying English, she continued her musical journey, forming a band and shopping demos until she eventually was signed as a solo artist by Modern/Atlantic Records. Poe's eclectic debut album, Hello, is alternately aggressive and introspective, with mellow, jazzy dance grooves mingling with metal-tinged tension and soothing piano ballads. Her two most well-known songs, "Trigger Happy Jack" and "Angry Johnny," both contain sexual and violent imagery, the former being a masochistic plea to a gun-waving psycho, not to let her go, but to help her "get off before you go"; and the latter containing the carefully phrased line "I wanna blow you ... away." Because of the up-front hostility contained in these two songs, Poe has been inaccurately lumped into an "Angry Young Woman" stereotype, a la Alanis Morissette, which is unfortunate, for that is a mere sampling of what Poe is capable of. The real highlights of Hello are the cool soul-jazz of "Another World" and "Fingertips," the minimal but lovely "Beautiful Girl" (one of two songs that feature Guns N' Roses drummer Matt Sorum), and the Joni Mitchell-esque "That Day," none of which contain a hint of anger. What is obvious when interviewing Poe is that she genuinely cares about her fans and relishes the opportunity to develop close relationships with them. She has been known to spend hours signing autographs, and occasionally joins fans for dinner after her concerts. While performing, she stands close enough to the edge of the stage that the fans can touch her, and she inevitably takes a stage dive or two during each show. She also takes the time to frequently contribute tour diaries and other correspondence to poe.org, a fan-based Internet site. Recently, after a concert, Poe was handed a sheet of questions from members of poe.org and was asked if she could e-mail the answers back when she had time. Instead, Poe immediately took a tape recorder into the bathroom of the venue and spent more than an hour answering each and every question. Poe recently talked via telephone to Music Central's Jaan Uhelszki about the roles of men and women in society, her influence on young girls, her childhood and close relationship with her brother, songwriting, hero worship, and the rigors of being Poe, the band. As the conversation was very loose and informal, it became necessary to do a bit of creative cutting and pasting on the editorial side to provide you with a smoother read; however, a lengthier version is available on RealAudio for your downloading pleasure. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Jan 1997 22:01:41 -0500 From: Robby Black Subject: sorry it's me.. she loves us..the article mentions us asking her all the questions and everything.. a MUST READ..
