I spent a while figuring out how to put a java-based chat on one of my pages. Then I posted the concept to the Angry-Psychos. Except for a few responses (thank you), most people completely ignored it, and then posted either a) more about AOL chats (here comes ranting: AOL is NOT in every damned household in the US, the monopolistic, fiscally-raping, slow, unsophisticated service is not what I need, personally, and, if the Poe chat were to be held there, I would fully MISS it, along with many, many Angry-Psychos); b) more about an IRC chat (which is fine, at least we can all get there for free) or c) the idea of putting a chat applet on their page (which I find a little bit frustrating). Here's what I think might work: An IRC chat: this works if a lot of people are involved, and if you don't mind the ephemeral status of the channel. Also, the name of the channel has to be publicized, especially if it is cute (e.g. "Angry_johhnys" or something). Then you have to make sure everyone knows what server you're on (undernet, freenet, etc). I suggest using mIRC, as it is easy to use (as easy as it can get). Or, of course, I must toot my own horn: At least some of us could set a time to meet on my page. The fact that my chat channel is ALWAYS there makes it possible for Angry-Psychos who would not normally want to run their own IRC channel (or don't know how) to arrange to meet...at any time. It can always be available for people who just want to sojourn with one or two other Poe-sters. If you want to check it out, it hasn't been linked to any of my other pages yet, so you have to go to: http://www.europa.com/~lyza/music/poechat.htm Please give me a chance. I know I don't have the biggest Poe page conglomerate (by far), but I'd like to be able to try this... Lyza :) p.s. I remember YellowDukk was there and MAME19 (who is a new angry-psycho) We kept the chat room going pretty strong for a couple hours, fighting off all the people asking "the poet or the singer?"
