It's a flick called "The Big Wave". It's based on a Pearl S. Buck novel about two guys that were childhood chums who grew up and became enemies over the love for a girl. From what I read, it may have been shot in Japan. Just though ya might want to know... I found out that the University of Southern California School of Theatre offers a scholarship award named after Poe's dad. It's called the Tad Z. Danielewski Award. (imagine that) =). I'm not quite sure what its for, or what the award is based on (something dramatical or theatrical obviously), but I thought that was pretty neat. I also read that the Department of Drama was founded by a guy named William C. Demille. And I started wondering if that's who Poe referenced to (in an obscured way) in the song "That Day". You know the part...( I'm ready for my close-up now Mr. Demille - I waited for the light - (you had it) but it never shone....). What I pictured was Poe on the stage standing on a empty stoop alone, (stage prop, like a porch or something to that effect) waiting for the stage lights to be turned on by Mr.Demille so she could have her time in the spotlight, or as it might be done in cinematography, a "close-up" shot. It doesnt have much to do with the rest of the song, but oh well it was worth a shot. Nevertheless, there's another Danielewski tid bit of info.... My bro and I met her at Edgefest in Dallas and then saw her again at the Bronco Bowl w/ Seven Mary Three. I was in the front row and managed to get her attention and gave her a "POE" necklace and she loved it (while she was on stage). When her set was over we went out to her bus and she came out and gave us hugs then took us back stage to her dressing room and we hung out. Then she invited us and took us to "the Rehab Lounge" in Deep Ellum and we went upstairs to the "guest room" and drank some beers and talked. She told us to come see her whenever she is in town and she'd get us in. The next time we saw her was in Oklahoma City w/ 7M3 and I took pictures of the entire show. We then drove up to Witchita KS and after the show showed her the pics and she loved them!! Toby wanted some to send to his mother and she offered to buy them from me so she could use them for publicity purposes.....needlessl to say i just gave them to her. We talked and she offered to let us sing with her in Tulsa Ok and we said that we couldn't sing but could do some backup stuff during one of her songs....we decided to scream the "1234" part in Trigger Happy Jack with the megaphone she uses in concert and did so. It was so cool singing on stage with POE!!! From then on we were all just buds, she gave us her phone number to call her and just last week we saw her again in OKC at the XMas concert given by our radio station....she was still sick (as she was in Tulsa the week before that!) so Billy her manager inivited us to Dallas for the last concert stop on her tour for the show and an afterparty with Poe.....unfortuantely we couldn't make it.....so I am a bit upset..... and that is my experience with POE Trent the Original POEZER #1 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Cycle I: The Heirophant Behold, for unto you, is born in the city of FUCK a WORM. I'd do that, but I only get 2 MB of space on AOL and that jsut isn't enuff.. :( so if anyone has some extra space, boots, or songs already recorded onto computer, lemme know....thanks a bunch!! Could have been a little higher, but it's in the right place, for Live 105. #1 was "The Distance" by Cake. Alex Bennett played Poe's first performance on his show of "Angry Johnny" yesterday morning. He said that Poe was one of the best performers on his show in 1996. I saw the Circus magazine with Marilyn Manson and Shirley Manson (interesting last name thing there ::) but no Poe. Did I look at the right one? I'm not a big fan of Web chat, but I think that'll be the easiest way to get all of us together. Now, along with a Japanese Garbage CD, I need a Japanese Poe CD. Well, this is what I did: I went ahead and stuck a java chat applet on a page in my Poe site. I was hoping this would be accessible for most everyone, as I think that nearly all of us have WWW access. The channel should be registered within a few hours (it's 3 pm PST right now). The applet will load now, if you want to see it/evaluate it. I hope this is a good thing, as it was all put together with good intentions. I don't want to hear anyone arguing over chats anymore! All you need do is go to: http://www.europa.com/~lyza/music/poechat.htm We can all organize times to go there, if y'all want...it's always there, such is the nature of web-based chats (therefore, it won't be ephemeral as IRC channels can be), and it's completely free (which AOL isn't)... So, my dearest Poe-sters, please check it out and let me know (privately) if it suffices what we, as a group, need. Remember, tee hee, I didn't write the applet! Sigh! And I've got a story for you! Hey all, I'm back from CA! Miss me? Anyhow, the story is this: my last day in LA was the 31st. And what do I discover is happening on the 31st but a Poe show at Billboard Live! Since I've never been to see Poe live before (in fact, the only other "concert" I've ever been to was two bands that have friends of mine in them, who played for about fifteen people in a community center), I decided to go. To prepare I bought a plain white t-shirt and a marker and made myself an Angry Psychos shirt, which said "You can talk to a...ANGRY PSYCHO (www.poe.org)" on the front and "Twalen Fleety MonkeyMan" on the back. The hour approached (I came real early so as to get a good view) and I grabbed my little brother Hendrik (he's fearless and I needed company) and went to the show. Whilst waiting for the doors to open, I met our very own Jarrod outside, who gave me a Poe patch and took my picture and stuff, and said he'd try and get me in to see her afterwards. Then we went in. After waiting for a while (she was kinda late, owing, I think, to some kind of technical problem with the guitar guy's pedals) the lights went low, and Poe took the stage. She was great, they were rockin', you all know what a show's like by now, right? There were three ten-year old girls up front, and a five-year old (daughter of AngryTerry (sp?) an Angry Psycho) who Poe just loved, and she brought 'em all up on stage for Beautiful Girl. During Hello and Angry Johnny I held up my shirt (calm down, ladies, I had another one on underneath :o) ) and she smiled and pointed at it. Then, at the end of Trigger Happy Jack, I thought, what the hell, and threw it up on stage. One song later Cameron picked it up, smelled it (?) and put it back down. Then during the Speed Metal Jam at the end, Poe put it on! As you might guess I was jumping up and down going "whoo-hoo!" After the show the MC guy brought her back onstage to congratulate her on her album going gold, and she had a glass of something in her hand which, caught up in the spirit of the moment I guess, she smashed. A piece hit me in the neck, in fact. (No blood or anything.) Then the MC, who was this big beefy guy, tried to smash his glass but it didn't break. It was funny. Anyway after the show I found Jarrod and he said go around the back, so I did. Cameron came out and he was really nice and he told us about a girl who said he was really cool and started sucking on his fingers. Then he introduced her to his girlfriend and she freaked and ran away. He also warned some girls who were looking for Toby that Toby gets pretty wild when he's drunk and he sounded serious so let that be a warning to you. Then he said, "let's go into the trailer!" and he took us all up there. But just as we got there Jarrod showed up and took us down into the bar underneath the club, where we met the little girls who had been brought onstage. And then Poe came! She was so nice, guys, you wouldn't believe it. It was very comfortable hanging out with her, which I didn't expect. Even though most of her attention was on the girls, I didn't mind. AngryTerry was there, and he was nice too. His little girl, Alex, was supercute. She had a PSYCHO shirt just like Poe's. Anyway Poe said next time she came to Hartford I could go backstage and see her and she signed my book "to John the MonkeyMan Angry Psycho--cool tee shirt making, guy, I LUV YOU + your tee shirt! POE xoxo" and she gave me a hug and wished my dad luck on his operation (which is why I was in LA in the first place) and I let her keep the shirt. It was lotz of fun. Well I hope this hasn't been too boring. I've now left that exclusive club--Angry Psychos who haven't met Poe! Twalen Fleety MonkeyMan =o) ------------------------------ End of angry-psychos-digest V2 #1 *********************************
