Choklit implied that it was wrong for Poe to only just be reaching platinum while Manson's album is hitting gold....But Manson has been around longer than Poe, at least on the big music label scene. C'mon, Manson's put out three albums on the interscope label....and Antichrist Superstar is their first really big project as far as advertising and hype go. I love the album, just as much as I love Poe's album. Don't worry, I guarantee you that Poe's album will keep climbing in sales. She's starting to get a lot of exposure...especially with groups like Angry-pyschos promoting her! Choklit...did you know that Poe and Mr. Manson himself have hung out together on occasion? They both admire each other's works......maybe they're more alike than we realize. Both have really abstract lyrics and deep meanings to those lyrics. I think the band Our Lady Peace kinda of has those same themes of Poe and Manson, but on an even deeper level. Well, I'll not get into the philosophical meanings....I don't want to distract myself from working on my english paper........yeeeesh. It's at http://www.cec.wustl.edu/~ljk1/poe.html then click on "Discrography". If you have any info on any Poe CD not listed, then send me: *Title *Product number *Track listing with time Because I have only 5MB of disc space, I can't put pictures of the covers of the CD, so check out Sam's Discography! I'm not sure why he didn't end up doing that. - -sahbreenah http://www.hooked.net/~badkitty/ And don't forget to ask Miss Kitty... http://www.hooked.net/~badkitty/ask.html ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 05 Dec 1996 14:56:09 -0500 From: Scott Rappaport Subject: Interpretation Hey there angry-psychos, I heard someone was looking for some interpretations on Poe songs. I have an interpretation that the album is one continuous story from start to finish. Anyway, here's my theory: Hello: This song is two things. One, it's a greeting to all listening to the album and two, it gives some background information for the story. Poe is trying to contact someone, maybe her boyfriend who she's losing touch with. She's really trying to make an effort because she obviously cares about him. Note the reference to her mothers and fathers. Later references will show that it is her mother who seems distance and his father who "sucks up the light". Trigger Happy Jack: She finally talks to him about the situation but he's not acting sane. He tries to trick her and make it seem like her fault, but she knows what's happening. She does still love him, though. That's confirmed at the end. Choking The Cherry: This shows her frustration toward her current situation. She has this pissed off attitude and she's trying to forget about him but she can't. His voice is stuck in her head. She blames him for making her love him. That Day: This is a key point in the story. He tries to make it all up to her by meetng her at a cabin. She's really excited about this but he never shows up. She makes another reference to her mother having no life. That will be important later on. She them blames his father for making him the way he is, connecting this to Hello. Angry Johnny: Now she's really pissed! She dreams of all the ways she could kill this bastard who broke her heart again. She asks him why he changed. Dolphin: We now learn that her anger was only temporary and she still has hope. This song is an excellent metaphor. They've always been different and they built a bridge to connect themselves. The events of That Day broke the bridge, keeping them apart. Poe won't give up though. If there's no bridge, she'll try to swim to the other side. She expresses doubt but tries anyway. We don't learn the outcome until the next song. We do learn a little more about her own personality. She sees that she may be breaking down the same way he did. Another World: She was able to swim the ocean. She's with him and convinces him to loosen up and not worry. They share some bliss that makes it feel like they're in "another world". In the back of her mind, though, she knows something is wrong. We hear her soul ask if this is the end of the world and if it's heaven or hell. She's starting to realize that it may not work out. Fingertips: We now learn that Poe seeks attention. Human touch is all she wants. He is familiar so it's easier to get it from him. But, "anyone will do". They are starting to grow apart. Beautiful Girl: This is the turning point in the story. This song is a conversation with her mother. She finally tells Poe about herself and opens up. Her life is no longer a joke but a beautiful thing. This sparks a realization in Poe. She has now gotten a mother's advice and realizes where her life is heading. She's almost free from his control. Junkie: She can live without him! She's not addicted to him. She now recognizes all the games being played. She also sees that she's playing the games too. They are both similar people after all. She's the one that knows it, though. She's finally ready to move on. Fly Away: She tries to explain to him all of the things she figured out. If he realized it ("if you knew the words") then he'd have done it. She's telling him that it's okay to move on and even apologizes by calling him a sweet bird of prey. This oxymoron shows how she blames both of them for the events of the relationship. She acknowledges the fact that there's a difficult road ahead but that they're making the right choice. There is a connection between Dolphin and Fly Away. A dolphin can fight of a shark (fish of prey). She later calls him a bird of prey. She tried to be a dolphin and swim to him. It seemed to work but actually didn't. She bagan to drown in the middle of the ocean. She needed to become something else.: a bird- so she could fly away. That's my interpretation of the album. I know it's not right but that's okay, most interpretations aren't.
