My POE first show... WOW... If you have been to the POE experience you know what I am talking about.... I have so much to share. ****** If 7 minutes is not available to read this then pleaese save it for a more comfortable time. ****** The night started strong... I even brought a tape and a tape recorcder to be able to record the show. I arrive at the venue about 6:45 and I search for POE. I know a couple of pepople in security so this was ok. Before they roped off the parking area I walked around back and there were two busses there. One had a sign that said Els S .. By the way ... E. from the eels was doing well with the chicks. I proceeded to knock on the other bus as I committed to do earlier in the day. I was destined to see POE before the show started. I only had to knock once and POE comes to the door. How cool. POE comes and answers the door. I'M BEYOND FLOATING.... We hug, talk a little and she says she is hungry. How cool is that... She eats too (ha ha hehe). So we go to the food spot. $15.00 voucher (if details are a concern for you). Jones the drummer is watching the World Series. He is wearing a Yankees T-Shirt... Also a 70's style over-shirt. Yankees 2-0 at this point. POE orders her shit... 2 soups add broccli because she wanted the vitamins... Things settle down and I go on to her bus to see Cameron. Brian the Sound Guy is there. Billy the tour manager and POE. We talk about the mailing list. POE is totally stoked about the whole mailing list. She can't believe that this is happening for her (yeah right). I also addressed the issue of the tape tree and she is in full support of the idea. I asked her if she would committ to recording some shows and sending the tapes to me. I hope that happens. We could have POE herself feeding the tape tree. That would be so cool. POE leaves to the hotel to relax and I hang with Jones and root for the Yankees. At this point I am in no need of alcohol. I'm HIGH. I wallk around. Look for some buddies. NONE to be found. I can't relax so I go to the Balboa Cafe (a place with on-line all the time) Surf a while; relax. Have a beer... an hour passes, hook with the buddies, Yankees 5- 2. Cameron is hillarious at this moment. He states that we need to go and scam some females. I quickly agree and we are off to hunt the foxes (if you will). No foxes. So be it... I continue to walk around and meet the people in the back.. The lonely kid who is destined to sit in the back and make sure that people don't F with the band's stuff. Nice dudes but out of the action. SO... I'm now able to move in and out of the show without a problem. Please let me add that I work in radio in PHX and I know 2 BIG name so I say them all of the time... Excuse me THREE big names (POE). It is now 9:30p... I have my second beer and look over the back balcony and see POE coming back form the hotel in Shawn's Car (other tour manager; actually the guy that I passed along our mailer address to. He loves the idea of the mailing list (WE HAVWE HIT GOLD FRIENDS!). I add a dollar tip and I ask the bartender to hold my beer and I run down and greet POE again. She say she is totally late and to meet her after the show here (by the bus). I go in and preoceed to jockey for position and get into the action at the show... Set List... 1. That Day 2. Choking the Cherry 3. Hello 4. Fly Away 5. Dolphin 6. Junkie 7. Jane Says 8. Beautiful Girl 9. Angry Johnny 10. Psycho 11. How Long 12. Speed Metal Jam.... Things ended ... NO encore. Her style? (side-bar, I would like to start a discussion about enores. Are they needed? Or should a band say we are done (on mike) and leave, Psychologically..??>) It is now after the show and I keep moving in and out looking for POE. It was all timing. Toby (the basist) comes out of the bus (I met him earlier) and I get on the bus. 40 people outside the police line and I'm sitting on POE's Bus. What the Fuck... Be nice and it will come back to you. In the bus I'm hangin' with Cmaeron and three girls from ASU.. All east coast (well 2 for sure). Freshman... All giddy. None the less, it tunrns out that one of the girl's brothers has taped a POE show and I got her address and will work it for the tape tree. I really feel that this will go off. Infact I talked to POE about being an integral part of her advance ment through the internet. Especiall a tape tree. I will become a focal point of POE information on the NET have no doubt. It was an amazing experience. I had the best time and the show was the greatest. POE the nicest person in the world. I had soem serious bonding time with her. The night was not all perfect though... As I was done typing tonight I feel my palm hurting from trying to snap off a beer cap in the bus.. On the corner of the counter (hind sight: STUPID). This didn't hit me about the signifficance until I thought about what a road manger named A.J. said... It is his responsibility to get his poeple in to the bus and make sure that they are alright.. Added by Cameron who said that this is his home and as I saw him clean up beer caps I understand that this is really his home. People live and die on this bus from city to city and we get the joy of experiencing them for one momnet in time . This made feel bad about the chip in the lanolium top that I put there from trying to snap off a beer cap.. Others before me have done the same thing... But now that my hand hurts and I think about how much POE and the band shared their lives with me I can do nothing but apologize for chipping the counter top and distorting their environment that they live in daily. Pluss if it were my bus, would I do that??? NO f-ING way. (White-Trash move for sure...). I guess I have a tainted vision of what it means to be touring and to be on the road all of the time.
