October 15, 1996 Atlanta Journal-Constitution Living section, celebrity news outside Atlanta (small picture of Sarah McLachlan) On the books for the '97 outdoor convert season is a "Lilith Fair" tour that will mimic the Lollapalooza, H.O.R.D.E. and other group outings with one noticeable difference: Founding singer-songwriter SARAH MCLACHLAN has designed it as an all-female-headliner festival. Though inspired by her reaction to a predominance of male-centered summer tours and a reluctance by some venues to book a double-female bill, McLachlan admits to a special ulterior motive. "It's basically a selfish act, because I want to see all my favorite performers that I never get a chance to see. I thought it would be great fun," she says. The tour name is derived from a myth about the first independent woman (Adam's first wife), but the fair won't be a political event. "It's not a feminist platform, and I totally want men to be involved," McLachlan says. Artists committed for 1997 include PAULA COLE, LISA LOEB, AIMEE MANN, and NENEH CHERRY, who'll be among 50-plus acts playing 30 to 35 North American cities with a rotating bill, altough McLachlan will play all the dates. ------------------------------ From: agentorange2@juno.com (Rusty M Shelby) Date: Wed, 16 Oct 1996 03:20:55 EDT Subject: that damn picture >From: telliamed@juno.com (Pat Brown) >Date: Tue, 15 Oct 1996 21:53:26 EST >Subject: Re: YOUR PICTURE (fwd) >On Tue, 15 Oct 1996 13:53:14 -0400 (EDT) ilmortal writes: > >received this message from the Christian coalition asking me to remove >they're crusading on the internet now? I am the maintainers of the handful of Poe Pages on the 'net. I am a junior at Washington University in St. Louis majoring in Chemical Engineering (a.k.a. intense torture). I got the "Hello" promo and the 2 Atlantic Records Spew CDs back in May when Wash U's radio station was giving out random CDs for free. I didn't listen to "Hello" probably until July when I had some time and I grew tired of listening to the same CDs. I pretty much fell in love with it the first time I heard it. I had just missed her in concert at Pointfest (and I heard she was one the crowd favorites out of the 12-15 bands that played that day), so I was definitely excited when she opened up for Sponge in September. Okay, I'm rambling...I'll quit now. Visit my page and give me suggestions! I wanna say that the Poe interview is great, but I can't. Well, even if it's not great, I appreciate it because this is the first time I've seen Poe in a major magazine. She even mentions Marilyn Manson! It is fairly short, but it's still pretty good. I wish the interviewer/editor hadn't misquoted Poe in big red letters, though. She wasn't really a Trent Reznor wannabe. Don't get me wrong. I think Trent's music is great, but I don't see Poe as a "wannabe." I don't think I really liked the interviewer. Anyway, thanks for telling me (and everyone else) about it, Anthony. ------------------------------ From: fdeboer@eagle.wesleyan.edu (John deBoer) Date: Wed, 16 Oct 1996 18:45:38 -0400 Subject: Re: Poe in Details Evil Frige said: >I just went and bought the new Details. I am curious how she even found out about it. I bounced around the net from just your e-mail address. Not sure what that bible verse was even supposed to mean. I thought your response was a good one. I am not sure what I would have said if I received that. I just wanted to update you. People pointed out that her kids could 'learn' that gesture at the playground.
