plant is a plant that produces wood as its structural tissue. Woody plants are usually either trees, shrubs, or lianas. These are usually perennial plants whose stems and larger roots are reinforced with wood produced from secondary xylem. The main stem, larger branches, and roots of these plants are usually covered by a layer of bark. Wood is a structural cellular adaptation that allows woody plants to grow from above ground stems year after year, thus making some woody plants the largest and tallest terrestrial plants. Wood is primarily composed of xylem cells with cell walls made of cellulose and lignin. Xylem is a vascular tissue which moves water and nutrients from the roots to the leaves. Most woody plants form new layers of woody tissue each year, and so increase their stem diameter from year to year, with new wood deposited on the inner side of a vascular cambium layer located immediately beneath the bark. However, in some monocotyledons such as palms and dracaenas, the wood is formed in bundles scattered through the interior of the trunk. Woody herbs are herbaceous plants that develop hard woody stems. They include such plants as Uraria picta and certain species in family Polygonaceae. These herbs are not truly woody but have hard densely packed stem tissue. Other herbaceous plants have woody stems called a caudex, which is a thickened stem base often found in plants that grow in alpine or dry environments. Under specific conditions, woody plants may decay or may in time become petrified wood. membrane-bound organelle found in the cells of plants, algae, and some other eukaryotic organisms. Plastids were discovered and named by Ernst Haeckel, but A. F. W. Schimper was the first to provide a clear definition. Plastids are the site of manufacture and storage of important chemical compounds used by the cells of autotrophic eukaryotes. They often contain pigments used in photosynthesis, and the types of pigments in a plastid determine the cell's color. They have a common evolutionary origin and possess a double-stranded DNA molecule that is circular, like that of prokaryotic cells. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Jan 2019 10:05:21 +0100 From: "Laura" Subject: Just working Want to retouch your photos? we can help you for that. Many people donbt know why this is b they think power is bjust getting expensiveb. So here are the real reasons whyb& Every household and every business in this country is paying for the biggest corporate and government rip-off in our history. The truth is, youbve been conned by the people you elected to lead the nation and protect you from exploitation. Australian Bureau of Statistics figures show the electricity industrybs profits soared by 67% between 2007 and 2011, while during the same period electricity bills rose by 40%. Theybve continued to go up ever since. This massive increase had nothing to do with the now abolished carbon tax - that was only 9% of your bill. It had nothing to do with the renewable energy target, either b thatbs around 5%. It's not even the electricity you use b thatbs only about 20% of your bill. For almost a decade, the electricity networks, some of which are state-owned, have spent an eye-watering $45 billion on unnecessary infrastructure and is charging every single cent of it back to you. Worse still, there are doing this with falsely inflated interest rates and other charges amounting to hundreds of millions of dollars. Youbre paying for that too. Every single cent of it. Surely our state and federal governments wouldnbt allow this you say. Well they did. The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) approved it all. They lied to you because itbs in their best interests to do so. Now, about 50% of your electricity bill is attributed to bnetwork chargesb. Basically, youbre paying back a $45 billion loan for electricity infrastructure you didnbt ask for and didnbt need. Estimates say around $20 billion would have been more than adequate to upgrade and future-proof our electricity infrastructure. In 2009 the networks told the AER they needed to upgrade our electricity poles and wires to cope with future demand. But they deliberately over-inflated the level of upgrade required and the electricity demand they predicted has never, ever materialised. Research showed them demand was falling, and it still is today, due to factors such as energy efficiency and use of solar. But still, the networks and politicians said it was rising. They lied and wasted billions of dollars. In Newcastle, for instance, they built a brand-new substation, costing $30 million, but it wasnbt connected to the grid. Why? Because it wasnbt needed. Youbre paying for outrageous waste like that as well. The AER enforces rules set by another body, the Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC), which was established in 2005 and mainly run by state government energy ministers. But as one investigative journalist put it at the time, ba roll call of recent NSW energy ministers reads like an ICAC subpoena listb. Basically, it was like putting the fox in charge of the hen house. But as the result of this spend, the state governments who own the poles and wires have had the value of their networks go through the roof. That value is handy though if any of those state governments plan to sell off their networks to private investors, just as the NSW government did b for a whopping $3 billion profit. Thatbs a nice little cash injection to fund their quest to be re-elected. So why are you, the Australian consumer, paying for this scandalous rort? Itbs simple. This crooked system allows the networks to borrow money and charge it back to customers. The more they spend, the more they make b at your expense. Youbre forced to pay for the interest as well, except they charge you 10% interest when they borrowed at 4 or 5%. In other words, every year you are paying $100 million to the networks on every billion dollars they borrowed to build a $45 billion network we didnbt need. Thatbs an extra $4.5 billion that you are paying for through your electricity bills. Tony Abbott fooled the nation when he told us the carbon tax was responsible for electricity price rises and abolishing it would see costs tumble. They didnbt of course because carbon tax only accounted for 9% of your bill. The con was set in stone. Tragically, this scandal has a huge human cost with many people now unable to pay their power bills and businesses either paralysed in a competitive market or forced to close their doors altogether. Even worse, this unacceptable debt burden will go on for decades to come until you have paid it off. What we really need is a royal commission to bring these people to account, tear up the loan contracts and rewrite them under terms that are fair. Thatbs what the United Australia Party will be fighting for b an energy deal that puts Australians first. Fruits are the means by which angiosperms disseminate seeds. Edible fruits, in particular, have propagated with the movements of humans and animals in a symbiotic relationship as a means for seed dispersal and nutrition; in fact, humans and many animals have become dependent on fruits as a source of food. Accordingly, fruits account for a substantial fraction of the world's agricultural output, and some (such as the apple and the pomegranate) have acquired extensive cultural and symbolic meanings. In common language usage, "fruit" normally means the fleshy seed-associated structures of a plant that are sweet or sour, and edible in the raw state, such as apples, bananas, grapes, lemons, oranges, and strawberries. On the other hand, in botanical usage, "fruit" includes many structures that are not commonly called "fruits", such as bean pods, corn kernels, tomatoes, and wheat grains. The section of a fungus that produces spores is also called a fruiting body.Inside the ovary/ovaries are one or more ovules where the megagametophyte contains the egg cell. After double fertilization, these ovules will become seeds. The ovules are fertilized in a process that starts with pollination, which involves the movement of pollen from the stamens to the stigma of flowers. After pollination, a tube grows from the pollen through the stigma into the ovary to the ovule and two sperm are transferred from the pollen to the megagametophyte. Within the megagametophyte one of the two sperm unites with the egg, forming a zygote, and the second sperm enters the central cell forming the endosperm mother cell, which completes the double fertilization process. Later the zygote will give rise to the embryo of the seed, and the endosperm mother cell will give rise to endosperm, a nutritive tissue used by the embryo. As the ovules develop into seeds, the ovary begins to ripen and the ovary wall, the pericarp, may become fleshy (as in berries or drupes), or form a hard outer covering (as in nuts). In some multiseeded fruits, the extent to which the flesh develops is proportional to the number of fertilized ovules. The pericarp is often differentiated into two or three distinct layers called the exocarp (outer layer, also called epicarp), mesocarp (middle layer), and endocarp (inner layer). In some fruits, especially simple fruits derived from an inferior ovary, other parts of the flower (such as the floral tube, including the petals, sepals, and stamens), fuse with the ovary and ripen with it. In other cases, the sepals, petals and/or stamens and style of the flower fall off. When such other floral parts are a significant part of the fruit, it is called an accessory fruit. Since other parts of the flower may contribute to the structure of the fruit, it is important to study flower structure to understand how a particular fruit forms. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Jan 2019 06:54:35 +0100 From: "Judy" Subject: Want to edit your photos We want to work for you to edit your photos. There are about 1000 species of gymnosperm trees, including conifers, cycads, ginkgophytes and gnetales; they produce seeds which are not enclosed in fruits, but in open structures such as pine cones, and many have tough waxy leaves, such as pine needles. Most angiosperm trees are eudicots, the "true dicotyledons", so named because the seeds contain two cotyledons or seed leaves. There are also some trees among the old lineages of flowering plants called basal angiosperms or paleodicots; these include Amborella, Magnolia, nutmeg and avocado, while trees such as bamboo, palms and bananas are monocots. Wood gives structural strength to the trunk of most types of tree; this supports the plant as it grows larger. The vascular system of trees allows water, nutrients and other chemicals to be distributed around the plant, and without it trees would not be able to grow as large as they do. Trees, as relatively tall plants, need to draw water up the stem through the xylem from the roots by the suction produced as water evaporates from the leaves. If insufficient water is available the leaves will die. The three main parts of trees include the root, stem, and leaves; they are integral parts of the vascular system which interconnects all the living cells. In trees and other plants that develop wood, the vascular cambium allows the expansion of vascular tissue that produces woody growth. Because this growth ruptures the epidermis of the stem, woody plants also have a cork cambium that develops among the phloem. The cork cambium gives rise to thickened cork cells to protect the surface of the plant and reduce water loss. Both the production of wood and the production of cork are forms of secondary growth. Trees are either evergreen, having foliage that persists and remains green throughout the year, or deciduous, shedding their leaves at the end of the growing season and then having a dormant period without foliage. Most conifers are evergreens, but larches (Larix and Pseudolarix) are deciduous, dropping their needles each autumn, and some species of cypress (Glyptostrobus, Metasequoia and Taxodium) shed small leafy shoots ------------------------------ End of alt.music.moxy-fruvous digest V14 #3583 **********************************************
