Apparently sometime this week (last night or Tuesday) there was some sort of Barbershop workshop in Toronto and Fr|vous were invited to attend/perform, because the father of one of the Lads was helping to organize the workshop. Murray (my informant said "the bass" and while that *could* be Mike I'm sort of thinking Mike's dad seems to be the one most likely to be involved in barbershop) couldn't attend, so they were one short and my source's husband got to get up and sing with Moxy Fr|vous! *does a little happy dance* Nafs ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Jun 2002 13:06:18 -0400 From: Ofer Inbar Subject: ammf gateway troubles this week The ammf mail-news gateway was down from sometime on Tuesday, until today. What happened is that the ISP I use for news access transferred over to a different news server, and without realizing it or planning to, they cut off all of their news-only accounts. They seem not to have understood that they even had any news-only accounts, and made no accomodation for them on the new server. After the fact, they've decided that they will no longer support such accounts. I only found out what happened the day after things stopped working, and it took the next three days to figure out that they weren't going to be able to restore access for me, and the account is effectively gone (this despite the fact that they'd already billed me through June 21st and I had paid the bill). Needless to say, I'm very upset at this ISP, so I'll tell you who they are: Primus Hosting, aka primushost.com. Originally my account was through shore.net, but Primus bought Shore a while ago. Anyway, I've hacked up a temporary solution through a friend's server for a while, until I find better long term news access. Unfortunately this means article numbers are different from what my gateway script was keeping track of, and so is expiration policy. Those of you on the gateway mailing list may have just gotten a bunch of duplicate articles, or you may have missed a bunch of articles from earlier in the week, I'm not sure. If you sent anything to ammf@fruvous.com since Tuesday, it was not posted successfully. Hopefully the gateway did send you back a bounce letting you know that the post failed, but just in case you didn't get a bounce, I want to assure you, any posts sent in the last few days through the gateway didn't work. They should be working now. We may have another article renumbering incident when I switch news servers again, within the next week or two. We may also have another service outage in the meantime, though I hope not. - -- -- Cos (Ofer Inbar) -- cos@polyamory.org http://cos.polyamory.org/ -- WBRS (100.1 FM) -- info@wbrs.org http://www.wbrs.org/ "We're a bunch of geeks, and so is our audience. I for one would like to see the band attain the success they so richly deserve, and I think a name change after this prolonged hiatus might be a good idea. The timing would be perfect. I wouldn't keep "Moxy" nor would I keep "Fruvous." I would start fresh. After all, look at the celebrities and business that have changed their name over the years. It's not without precedent. Now I know that someone will try to make the argument that a lot of bands with "less than media-friendly names" have made it big...even huge. Take The Beatles and Led Zeppelin for instance. These are not great names, but those bands brought greatness to the names. Big deal. We're talking about Moxy Fruvous, not The Beatles or Led Zeppelin. I feel that a better name as "part" of an overall "rebranding" might be a good idea. I think a great new name could be Snoop-Diddy-Usher. Brent...who's consider a new name...maybe, Moxy Miller P.S. Now the question is, what part of this post is sarcasm and what part is reality. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Jun 2002 18:55:15 -0500 From: join-imarvel-news Subject: Mattel, Inc. So I'm posting it here. ;) Christine. - --no mail gateway for fruvous and no gojian.com...the world is ending. - -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Groupie Documentary Date: 14 Jun 2002 07:14:50 GMT From: urbeloved@cs.com (Urbeloved) Organization: CompuServe (http://www.compuserve.com/) We are currently seeking women who are living a "groupie" lifestyle for our on-going documentary project. For the last few months, we've been following female groupies--documenting their lifestyle choices, their hopes, and their dreams. We are looking for someone who has a story to tell and is not afraid to share her feelings and experiences. This is not a project that seeks to exploit, but to understand. The project also includes an "A" list of current musicians in the rock and hip-hop genres, as while as those who would be considered "legends." Artists profiled, document their experiences while traveling on the road. We are also considering adding athletes to the mix. In a business dominated by men, you should know that we are two female producers who specialize in the music industry. We've produced stories for a variety of outlets-most focusing on the music industry. Our credits run from VH1 to MTV to BET to MSNBC. We've also produced "behind-the-scenes" exposes of some of the most popular artists in the music industry. In fact, it was during an interview with an artist, that we got the idea for this documentary. If you know of anyone who might be interested in participating in the project, please call us at 1-800-475-8583. Please leave a message for Marie at Ext. 83. Or, you can email me at "urbeloved@cs.com."
