I'd be happy to set it up, host it, help create accounts... but the bandwidth can get pretty costly. Maybe if people are willing to contribute, then it could happen. To give you an idea, with 5 albums, the Frucon gallery pushed over 250MB of data today. Once albums have been up for a while, this will die down quite a bit... but if you put up a bunch of great photos, you could easily end up pushing 15 to 30 gigs of data a month... which works out to a bandwidth bill in the $50-$100 range. :-o The 986host.com site is up in the 700MB/day range at the moment... scarry stuff. It starts to become pretty clear why so many photo hosting companies went belly up. ;) - - Jason ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 Feb 2002 18:11:09 GMT From: Kath Maheux Subject: Re: What Frucon is (was Re: Frucon Pictures) John Misrahi wrote: > As a relatively new Fruvous fan, can someone tell me what Frucon is? > thanks > John Allow me to sound like a travel brochure for a minute... this is going to be fun! :) Frucon is the Fruhead Convention. It has been happening in Toronto on the third Saturday of February since 1998. Originally, this was because Moxy Fruvous had scheduled a concert that Saturday, so a few friends who knew each other mostly online decided to meet up beforehand and hang out. This concept blossomed into a gathering of approximately a hundred people during the first year and grew in size to nearly three-hundred attendees and three nights of concert-going. Last year Moxy Fruvous took a break from their hiatus to perform one show for FruCon. This year they didn't do that and as a result, only about fifty people gathered in TO... but some (including myself!) are saying that it was the best Con ever! With that attitude (and the committee watchdog attitude towards accumulated funds) the Con never has to die. Please god no. :) Hope this helps! You can find any specific sort of info on http://www.frucon.org - and you can also find (I believe) fan reviews of most of the Cons on http://www.fruvous.com . Just look for the third weekend in February :) Kath! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Feb 2002 00:43:22 +0000 From: steve gilmore Subject: Re: Here's a GREAT music resource!!! If they are driving from the states, they would not want to bring that kind of stuff. That is exactly the type of thing that garners interest from customs officials. Also that equipment FILLED a car and then some. Unless someone has a full size van, they don't have room. > I don't know if that sort of thing would > make a big dent in costs, but hopefully it would help at least a bit. No, actually it wouldn't make that much difference. The one thing that would be nice is to figure out a new source of raffle items. Frankly I think Jian's basement is getting a little bit bare. Like Oil that source is not going to last forever. Another thing that would be helpful is more feedback from people about what they would like to do at the con. Right now it is like the committee guesses what people want and then hopes that they come. It would be a lot better if we could get solid ideas of how people want the con to be. And I guess I don't just mean sending us suggestions. But rather having a discussion either here or on the board on our website (which I think may have come down, but maybe Kath can find a new one?) > In any event, we can all cross our fingers and hope for a show in 2003 > (Or 2002 even!) Amen to that! A.J. ------------------------------ End of alt.music.moxy-fruvous digest V6 #48 *******************************************
