O'Brien's reps and NBC have agreed to the broad strokes of a deal that, if finalized, would keep the host in place for nearly half a decade more. His current salary would roughly double to between $7.5 million and $8.5 million per year, and NBC would continue to fund O'Brien's young -- but already successful -- Conaco Prods. Sum would easily make O'Brien the highest-paid host ever in the 12:35 a.m. timeslot. Other sweetners may be included in the deal, but NBC declined to comment -- or even confirm -- the status of its negotiations with O'Brien's reps at the Endeavor Agency and manager Gavin Polone. Industry insiders cautioned that a final agreement hasn't been reached, and that several important deal points have yet to be hammered out -- any one of which could derail the pact. But the consensus on salary and length indicates a final pact could come within the next few weeks, if not sooner. O'Brien's reps had preliminary talks with other nets about possibly stealing O'Brien. Fox execs expressed some interest in O'Brien, but insiders said the net never made a serious play. NBC still has another month left on its exclusive negotiating window. Deal would mark a significant milestone for O'Brien, whose NBC career began in 1993 with the network offering up renewals of six months or less. While most critics were initially harsh on O'Brien, the host -- a former "Simpsons" writer with very little on-air experience -- generated a strong base of loyal, young viewers who stuck with him as he adapted to his new gig. Ratings and critical respect eventually followed, and O'Brien has become a staple of the latenight scene. Evidence I'm really bored. Looked at this and thought "The only US talk show host to have Moxy Fr|vous on his show and suddenly his paycheque is doubling. Coincidence? I think not" ;) Nafs ------------------------------ End of alt.music.moxy-fruvous digest V6 #31 *******************************************
