Subject: Re: Harry Potter I saw the movie twice over the weekend and I did think it very well done. Alan Rickman can raise the art of playing villain/pseudo-villain into a veritable science. I felt a bit cheated though at the special effects, 90% of them you saw in the the various trailers and so when you finally saw them on the screen, it was really no big whoop. I think they managed to put a lot of the book into in terms of content and did admirably when it came to context. Things that were omitted from the book outright can be re-visited in later movie when issues move to the forefront, and other things that would've required an extra scene to be written, sets and props to be found/built, were incorporated into different already existing scenes. I absolutely loved the books, but the movie can stand proud on its own merits as well as for the job done in adaptation. And at 2.5 hours, it's a respectable length too. Yay Harry! Sigrid who has already been sorted into Gryffindor House, made her magical creature, is struggling at Quidditch practise due to an incooperative mouse and 'bought' a lovely wand. - ----Original Message Follows---- From: SugarFly26@aol.com To: ammf@fruvous.com Subject: Harry Potter Date: Tue, 20 Nov 2001 21:52:19 EST Just saw the Harry Potter movie. Very good. Hermione is a very impressive little actress, and Alan Rickman as Snape! Rock. Everyone says you need to have read the book, but you don't *really* have to, it's just that they had to cut a lot, so you have more background if you did. The cut many many small scenes and shortened everything, and the movie was still like 3 hours long. But really good. Well worth seeing. (Reading too, the books.)
