Both are Canadian (MF Toronto area, GBS St John's, Newfoundland) Both have 4 members Both have featured Murray Foster (GBS only for a few weeks as a replacement, but still...) Both perform some songs a capella or with percussion only, but the bulk of their songs feature musical instruments Both have multiple 'lead' vocalists (GBS is somewhat less equitable) Both have really good live shows with great music and stage prescence Differences -- GBS is more celtic/traditional and features fewer original songs (lots of NF folk songs), as oposed to MF's more eclectic background. If you like that kind of music, don't pass up Great Big Sea. I am in the area, but I can't ever get WNKU to come in clearly. I will definitely be listening tonight--I have been in serious Fruvous withdrawal lately. I drove past the Moxy Truck place on I 75 yesterday, and then passed a sign for Frucon Construction Co.over on Hamilton Ave. So tonight's radio program makes three--a hopeful sign, perhaps? This was just one day after celebrating her 21st Birthday with her twin sister. Not only was she one of the most outgoing people I know, she was the only one of my friends who shared my passion about Moxy Fruvous. I have no idea why I'm posting this here, I guess I feel that all fruheads share an incredible relationship. Friendships are enormously precious when you're young, and the sad thing is you don't even realize that until one day you get a call and you have to face the reality you're never gonna see someone you love so much again. I shared her passion for Fruvous, and my passion for the band is gonna be so much different from now on. I just wish everyone here, as well as the band knows what a loss this truely is. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Jul 2001 21:56:20 -0400 From: bsnow Subject: Re: To the memory of a lost fru-fan I am truly sorry for the loss of your friend. The death of one so young is tragic, and very hard to deal with. My thoughts and prayers are with you and her family. I'm glad that you have happy memories of her, and that you shared good times with a special band.
