Ofer? Any thoughts? He's entirely right. The approved lines are just there for debugging, they show what address the filter script saw in the from line, and whether it thought the posting was legitimate or not. I've changed the script so those lines will now be part of the header, which means you won't actually see them anymore unless you look at all the header lines. There are 27 addresses in the approved posting list right now, which is probably close to everyone who uses the gateway to post and is active these days. Before I turn the filter on, though, I'd like to clarify something, and give y'all a bit more time. There are two halves to the gateway, mail->news and news->mail. They operate independently of each other, and totally separately, because some people use one and some people use the other and some people use both. The spam filter is on the mail->news half ONLY. That means that it will not filter any spam that is posted to the newsgroup through a news server. It seems that most of the spam we get comes from the gateway, so that's fine. The thing that I think some people are confused about, though, is how this will affect legitimate posters. If you post by sending email to ammf@fruvous.com, then you are affected. If you post through any other method, be it a news reader or a web news site or whatever, then your postings do not go through the filter. That means your posts will not be filtered. It also means your address will not be collected by the filter for the future. Only if you send email to ammf@fruvous.com will the filter script ever see your posting. So, if you've posted a "fruvous"-filled message using some other method of posting, you are not on the approved list. If you ever intend to post through the gateway in the future, keep that in mind. If you want, you could email me and ask me to add a specific address to the list, though I may be lame and not get to it for a few weeks. But the only automated way to add yourself to the ammf mail->news approved list, is to actually use the ammf mail->news gateway by sending mail to ammf@fruvous.com, with one of the keywords in your message. -- Cos (Ofer Inbar) -- cos@polyamory.org http://cos.polyamory.org/ -- WBRS (100.1 FM) -- info@wbrs.org http://www.wbrs.org/ "We're a bunch of geeks, and so is our audience. I don't post on the Moxy Fruvous (KEYWORDS! LOOK!) newsgroup often, but I'd like to be able to do it from the gateway. I hope this allows me to. I like those guys Jian Ghomeshi, Murray Foster, Dave Matheson, and Mike Ford. Ok, enough keywording. Everyone have a happy day! I think that would get the point across and solve the problem, maybe with a note on the page (if there is one). - -adam ------------------------------ End of alt.music.moxy-fruvous digest V5 #181 ********************************************
