There are lots of banks and ATM machines around. I don't know about actually exchanging US currency (i.e. bills) for Canadian. Depending on the hotel, you might be able to do it there. And I believe that some restaurants MAY take US currency, but give you change in Canadian. But I'm not sure. If you use the ATM card, you have to wait until you get your bank statement to figure out how much you actually got charged in US currency. Also actual visa cards. Now that they've mostly abandoned igloos, Canada is becoming something very like a 1st world country. :P I don't know about actually exchanging US currency (i.e. > bills) for Canadian. Depending on the hotel, you might be able to do > it there. There are currency exchanges at the border in the duty free shops. There are also many crossing points where the fare collector (if there is a fare) will exchange currency. Also in Toronto there are currency exchanges, and banks will do this as well. But as I said in my previous post, you won't get the best rate that way. It is far better to just use your ATM card at a canadian bank. They don't even charge fees to use them (well not for Americans anyway. There seems to be some reason they can't do that.) > And I believe that some restaurants MAY take US currency, > but give you change in Canadian. But I'm not sure. Virtually every business in Canada (at least in regions anywhere near the border) will take US currency. However they will do so at fairly unfavorable terms (like $1.35 CDN to the US dollar when today's rate is $1.52). Change will be given in Canadian also at this unfavorable rate. By the way, this seems like a good time to remind everyone that they need to have Canadian currency at the con. We will take US dollars at an even MORE unfavorable rate: $1 US = $! CDN so unless you are willing to lose 33% on your money, bring Canadian cash to the con. > If you use the > ATM card, you have to wait until you get your bank statement to > figure out how much you actually got charged in US currency. You do have to do that, but only for the purpose of balancing your account to the penny. If you just figure that $1 US equals $1.50 CDN (or $1 CDN equals 66 cents US) you will be close enough. The smaller title of the CD says "A Vital Collection of Canadian Music." This edition of it was released in 1996 (the 25th Anniversary of the Juno awards) and has songs from the 60s-90s. *looking at the box* So if it's a 'vital collection' of Canadian Music, they would take the most popular song/song they are well-known for from each artist. "If I had A Million Dollars" was on Vol 1 so it wouldn't be found on Vol. 2 for BNL. However, I find it odd that on Vol. 1, the song for Chilliwack is not "My Girl (gone gone gone)" [1] but "Fly At Night (which, according to their web page, was a 'mega-hit')." I guess they are known by that more in Canada than in the US? *shrugs* Why was Fruvous included on Vol 2, but not on Vol 1? If they put "King of Spain" on Vol 1 in '96, then it would make sense to put 'I will Hold On' on Vol. 2. Who the heck puts these compilation CDs together? Christine. [1] If you don't know the group or the song, do a search on amazon.com for "Lost 45s" or "Heard it on the Radio Vol. 1." That song was included on both plus their Greatest Hits CD. *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^* "The smaller the man, the bigger the desk." - --Margaret (Clockwatchers) *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^* ------------------------------ Date: 15 Feb 2001 00:28:53 GMT From: piscopinto@aol.com (PISCOPINTO) Subject: Re: Friday night?? >> so if anyone's in to hangin around toronto and catching fun bars, let me >> know! > >Nope, planning on going to see Jian. > >Just for the record, and all :) > >Kath > yeah, yeah-- the Frubrew thing, and then Jian~!~ By the way, we were able to sucessfully get Jian tix on will call on maplemusic.com (after a few tries) See ya there!
