Using your own logic, if it isn't a big deal, why the hell do you care? It doesn't take a degree in mathematics to say that it is probably pretty likely that the con will sell out (I happen to have a degree in mathematics so I will drone on). The number of seats for the con (as far as I am aware is): 400 we'll call that X. The number of seats that the venue for the concert holds is: 1500 we'll call that Y. Now, if the concert sells perhaps 1200 seats (who knows, it may sell out), but I'll be conservative. What type of percentage of that crowd do you suspect is fruheads? 30%-40% If we go conservative on the estimate of the crowd being 30% fruheads (which I think is VERY conservative), that gives you 360 potential Con goers. Not a whole lotta wiggle room. Now, if you go with the idea that most of the fruheads that are going to attend the show will probably purchase their tickets online and while they're at it will purchase tickets for the Con as well, that means that 360 tickets for the con will be purchased prior to the doors opening. What does this all mean? Well, it means that if more than 30% of the audience for the show is a fruhead (I know some fruhead which are just going to the show, but I digress).. say oh 1/3 of the crowd, you will be SOL because there will be no tickets at the door. In summary, the longer you wait, the better the chances of the con selling out and you being out in the cold. In general, buying tickets for the con is like that of buying tickets for a movie or a concert. How often do you ask how many seats are left at one of these event? Why would you care about how many tickets are left at this one? If you think that you're paying too much, don't go. As for the "good" reason why the number shouldn't be shared, why do you feel the committee should have to give you a good reason or any reason for that matter? If you don't like how the committee is doing things, talk to the committee about it or become a member of the committee next year so I can complain loudly and publically about something that is so minute that it's laughable. Really, I think we should all get up in arms about what type of seating will be at the con (and contrary to popular opinion, Richard's butt is pretty narrow), perhaps we should get mad that it's held in toronto since really it should be held in thornhill. Maybe we should get mad that it is in february or that it snows in the winter. Why don't we all get mad that we have to use currency at all during these events, why can't we just pay in love? Of all the "flame" wars I've ever had a part in, this has to be the most idiotic to date. Which is a feat. Hmmm.. perhaps I should have postulated that the venue size was 1500 (a number I got from somewhere, but where that somewhere is, now escapes me, must be my old age, it's always the memory that goes first or was the eyesight or perhaps that's musical taste.. or maybe ....). Let venue size be 1500. Then I would have been less in the wrong, mathematically correct by axiom but not reality correct based on actual capacity of the venue, but I digress. Plus nobody ever said math really had to be based on reality, that's where the imaginary numbers come in.. I had noticed that I did leave out the formula, perhaps I should said that I was leaving that as an exercise to the reader. Anywho, frucon has a high probability of selling out when you consider the limited size of the venue compared to the number that that the concert venue will hold.
