Does it still say on tickets "No Cameras, Video Cameras, Recording Equipment etc. permitted in the venue?" Every concert I ever went to always said that on my ticket - until I noticed recently on a few shows, it doesn't. It is now just assumed you can't bring in certain pieces of equipment? There was a big sign in the lobby of HSBC Arena for the BNL show in December saying no video taping or audio equipment allowed. But that didn't stop some from taping it. ;) Christine. *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^ "glad u kno how 2 rite out hole werdz." --anna '00 *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^ ------------------------------ Date: 12 Jan 2001 00:22:26 GMT From: piscopinto@aol.com (PISCOPINTO) Subject: Re: Videotaping at the Opera House >Mike Yoshioka wrote, just testing: > >> Like, why do all you stupid people wait in line instead of just > >> crashing the venue? If you lose a limb to frostbite, that's dropping an extremly quick 5 or 10 pounds!! Works better than the Hollywood Diet! Back by enthusiastic popular demand, this year's Open Mic will accept acts showcasing you OWN musical talents as well as old Fruvous favourites! Jian and Murray will be judging the event and handing out the prizes. You are invited to submit your applications as soon as possible! Requirements: * Music. Anything from your rendition of a Fruvous tune, to a cover or an original song of yours! * Must be of a reasonable lenght. We probably won't be able to fit in your nifty rendition of Alice's Restaurant. * Anything you say/sing behind the mic must be suitable for children to hear. * Unfortunately, we cannot allow for explicit set-up time. Hopefully you'll just be showing up with your instrument(s), good and ready to go. * We ask that you submit your act to us first, so that we can schedule the event properly. However, if time permits, day-of additions will be welcomed. Also: * You will be provided with mics and a monitor, as well as tech help if needed. * You get a prize. Promise. And no one will ban you from the Fruhead community for your ska version of Fly. Interested? Right on. Just email us at openmic@verticalcrawl.com with the following information: - - The names of all performers involved in your act. - - Title/artist/approximate length of the song. - - Instrument(s) played. Will props be used? - - Number of mics needed. - - Will you need a pick-up for your instrument? - - The general feel of your act. The line-up will be organized according to song choice and style. We look forward to making this year's Open Mic event as fresh and entertaining as it was last year! Join the fun! I am amused by how much my favourite obsession, James Marsters (Spike on 'Buffy'), when performing folk tunes, sounds remarkably like Murray. This said, you are hereby invited to convince me I'm not crazed and download "Angel of Montgomery" (great song, wow; who sings this originally?) from Napster (artist: James Marsters) - THAT IS, if you're twisted like me and don't think Napster is Evil, which is another rant altogether. If this post becomes a Napster argument, I'll kill you all in your sleep. Back to James - I really hear Murrayness (a word, btw, not coined by the fine Fruvous people, but rather by 'Mad About You' quite a few years before - don't make me quote... 'cause you know, I might) in James' non-brit voice; even the "come on, people! it's 2001!" comment and the William Shatner reference ring a familiar bell. Wow. I realize this is an impossibly vacuous topic, but I'm feeling very much vacuous at the moment (mostly due to pre-Con stress and weariness, so y'all have to give me a humongous break, eh). Please, take me and my compulsive asides with a grain of salt. Well, I don't know who sings it originally, but a quick search on the database here (one of the side benefits of working for a music-related company :-) ) shows that the following people have performed the song. Seems fairly popular: Bonnie Raitt (on Road Tested and Streetlights) Tanya Tucker (on T.N.T.) John Prine (on John Prine, Souvenirs and Live) Steve Goodman (on Tribute To Steve Goodman -- er, well, I'd guess this isn't quite right) John Denver (on Farewell Andromeda) Susan Tedeschi (on I Won't Burn) Carly Simon (on one of her greatest hits albums) ...and to top it all off, now that I'm listening to it, I could swear that Erin McKeown covered it Wednesday night. The line "How could a person go to work in the morning / come home in the evening with nothing to say?" sounds *really* familiar to me :-) This song also goes a long way towards explaining a song I heard at the Freight last month sometime (which means it was probably Dan Bern. Shocker.) that began with a line about being "...an angel from Montgomery Ward..." At the time, it was merely confusing. Didn't realize it was a joke :-) As for your question about Murray-ness, the only copies I could find on Napster were pretty terrible sounding live recordings with lotsa howling during the song. However, it did kinda sound like Murray singing over a bad phone connection at a revival... -Joe ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Jan 2001 02:48:46 GMT From: Ellen Gersh Subject: Re: murrayness > This said, you are hereby invited to convince me I'm not crazed and > download "Angel of Montgomery" (great song, wow; who sings this > originally?) from Napster (artist: James Marsters) - THAT IS, if you're > twisted like me and don't think Napster is Evil, which is another rant > altogether. He hasn't got the best of voices, and I think most people prefer the duet version with him and Bonnie Raitt :) But I love his stuff! - -=ellen=- - -- "I dream of snow.... snow's where I belong" ------------------------------ End of alt.music.moxy-fruvous digest V5 #13 *******************************************
