Ok, my first post here. I figure this is a pretty safe one to jump into. Great Big Sea (my all-time favourites) - I also love their new CD, especially because I was in the audience for at least 6 of the tracks. Woo! The Punters - another rockin' band from Newfoundland Slainte Mhath - "celtic ecclectic" from Cape Breton Sarah Harmer, Jann Arden, Blue Rodeo, Guster, Damhnait Doyle, Vertical Horizon, Jackopierce, The Push Stars and Weeping Tile. That's just a small sampling of the stuff I listen to though. I've got pretty wide tastes in music. Everything from Irish jigs, to pop/rock, from jazz to even some klezma stuff (The Plaid Tongued Devils). I've also noticed that most of my music collection is Canadian. Nothing like homegrown talent I guess. *still waiting for Chapters to ship Live Noise to me - 3 weeks and counting* Cheers, Melissa :o) ______________ Visit the Slainte Mhath Message Board! http://disc.server.com/Indices/34760.html ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Oct 2000 04:48:34 GMT From: "Carey Farrell" Subject: Re: MF Video... But it's on the video >:) That's "Peace of Mind"; it's to the tune of a Boston (?) song, and I think they resurrect it whenever they're releasing or promoting a new CD. I saw them do it at Appel Farm this summer when "C" came out. I was addicted to "Bulbous Bouffant" when Dr. Demento was playing it constantly a few years ago; I even requested that they play it our high school prom, just to see how people would react. Some stupid prom committee girls crossed it off the request list, but I didn't go to prom anyway, so it didn't really matter. Wondering if this post had a point, Carey _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Jian says "you can never get enough banjo" I say "you can never get enough bagpipe." Murray says "sadly, you can get enough banjo." Notice, he never says "you can get enough bagpipe." Hold on to your kilts. Also listening and loving Brendan O'Donnell (www.beehive.com/odonnell). If anyone's in the Philadelphia area tomorrow (Saturday) he's playing at the Pontiac Grille on 3rd and South Streets at 10PM. Just trying to bypass S&H costs (you can't buy shit out here in Baltimore, but you know that already.) by buying it in TO next weekend. Gotta love cities with music stores that don't suck. So few people have enough money to go out and buy every CD that comes reccomended by someome. If you can hear a few songs, then you're more likely to buy a record since you can be fairly sure of what you're getting. Anyway. As far as Rheostatics albums, I'd recommend Melville or The Blue Hysteria. Or Introducing Happiness. All their records are really good, but I think those are good starting points. They were my first albums anyway, and I'm hooked.
