I've never > seen items like this on sale on the NG ... I believe that photos are one thing that borders on infringing items on eBay. eBay isn't the "end all" to auction sites. Ever hear of amazon.com, bidnow.com, boxlot or yahoo auctions? It's just that eBay is the most popular right now. So, by listing her photo on eBay (if it's in the intent to make money) you pay 25 cents for listing plus ebay takes a cut of the final sale (oh wait...it's a featured item too, isn't it - how much does that cost? $14.95?). So how much did you actually make on the photo? And *why* would you need to sell it anyway? To make a few bucks? I find it hard to believe that reprinting the 8x10 would cost $7.00 - no frame included. > It's bidding on the other items such as albums, CDs, > etc. that I would think > the group would find offensive. Things that are > under their own copyright and > if we wanted to buy them full price would go into > the pockets of the band. > Things that by buying them on eBay are taking away from the band ... Then almost every CD store is infringing on that since they deal in the selling of USED CDs. Remember about the mark-ups of CDs and the cut of costs of it. Many states (with discount stores) are involved in a lawsuit right now with the record companies who didn't want the CDs to be sold for lower than a certain price. Price fixing? Yup - why did Media Play start out in New York (which is one of the states involved) with cheaper CDs and then the prices went up to the "normal price" of a CD? (see lawsuit above) How much goes into the pockets of the artists? pennies? nickels and haven't we had this discussion on here about the used CDs? /me checks back to previous flame wars... > Amy couldn't very well try to sell it on here. > It's a great shot. I don't know > where else you'd buy stuff of him. It's going to go for > really cheap I am sure > ... and I would have to assume it will go to a big Murray fan. I'm still puzzled - the word here is "sell." Why would you need to sell a photo of Murray anyway? Isn't the point of going to the shows and taking photos are for the people that couldn't be there to enjoy it? You want photos? I got tons of them - over 300 or 400 taken since 1997. And to think that all these years I've been *giving* them away! How selfish of me! > If the tape-trading tree expanded into a > photo-trading tree then maybe you have > a different story and indeed maybe it should. You've never traded photos with people in the past without the use of a "tree"? When someone on here posts that their photos are on photopoint.com do you go there and "order" the photos? I got around 50 photos of fruvous for $2.00 thanks to Paul Mischler! :) > But re: the "get a job" comment, how do you know she's > not planning on becoming > a photographer??? :) :) :) Or a budding young one > albeit in college already? Yup, me too...and Paul Mischler and AJ and hKath and MC and Moe from Rochester and Adam and Capt. Mikey...etc. etc. etc. (sorry photographers if I left your name out *g*) There was a time when it was frowned upon to 'sell' concert/candid photos of bands. What happened? NO CENSORSHIP - for the end user - YOU - as well as outlaw speed capping for people that upload to USENET or IRC. PLEASE HELP PROTECT IRC and USENET! SEND THIS LETTER TO THE FCC! This response by you will be an OFFICIAL FILING! It will appear in the OFFICIAL PROCEEDING as a comment read by ALL THE ATTORNEYS who are participating in the action, as well as ALL THE FCC COMMISSIONERS! It will remain there FOREVER as part of the OFFICIAL RECORD of the AOL - Time Warner merger! With YOUR name on it! The FCC is on the verge of requiring the protections this letter asks for. Your letter might PUSH THEM OVER THE EDGE and make the internet a BETTER PLACE for EVERYONE, INCLUDING YOU! MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO USENET AND IRC! This letter WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE if there are enough of them received by the FCC. If at least 300 letters are received, we can probably count on the FCC to take decisive action to prohibit both censorship and speed capping. 1. Copy the letter to a file. You can put it on your letterhead with MS Word or just use a text file. You can make any change to the letter you want, or add any comment you have. CHANGES ARE GOOD! They show you READ THE LETTER and REALLY CARE! If you had a bad experience with AOL or Time Warner PUT IT IN! 2. go to: https://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/websql/prod/ecfs/upload_v2.hts (This is the official FCC page where electronic filing of petitions is accomplished) 3. Fill out cover sheet Put your name, Address, Email address, and all other required information on the form. (Remember this is an OFFICIAL FILING so the FCC requires this information. It is not published unless you put it in the letter as well as the form) Proceeding is 00-30 (this is VERY IMPORTANT, it is the case number of the AOL TIME WARNER APPLICATION for merger. If you get it wrong, your comment WILL NOT BE FILED!) 4. Send Cover Sheet. 5. After you send the cover sheet, THEN select the filename of the letter you are sending, and send that. 6. After you send the file, you will receive an official confirmation of the filing from the FCC. 7. Comment will appear for all to read in about 4 hours (but won't appear on the weekend.) 8. If you want to see your letter, or read the other submissions, other letters, the AOL petition, the Disney or Consumer's Union objections, etc, here is the URL - Its long! https://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/websql/prod/ecfs/comsrch_v2.hts?ws_mode=retrieve_list&id_proceeding=00-30&start=1 IF YOU LIVE N A FOREIGN COUNTRY and wish to make a comment (This is a world wide problem) the Cover Sheet will not accept your address. You can do this: Enter your real name and address including country in the address lines, but in the STATE box put CA and in the ZIP (first field) put 90001. Ignore the 2nd zip field. Ignore the 2nd form, and TYPE your SHORT COMMENT in the 3rd form. Please identify the country you live in the message. Don't use the sample letter supplied because it isn't appropriate for non-US residents. ***>Remember the FORM INFORMATION will NOT appear, only the letter. NOTICE! Would you like to help keep the internet free? Then do one or both of the following: 1. Copy this message and post it to 3 newsgroups where it does not appear! 2. Send this message by EMAIL to 5 friends! The future of USENET and IRC depends on the FCC forcing all ISP's starting with Time Warner and AOL to recognize free speech and fair marketing practices. PLEASE HELP! NOTE: There is NO WORD WRAPPING on the letter below, to make it easy for you to format so it may be hard to read until you copy it, depending on your news reader. SAMPLE MESSAGE - ------------cut here---------------------------------------------- To the FCC Commissioners Gentlemen and Ladies: The Internet is in mortal danger, and you will make the decision on whether it lives or dies as we know it today. From the time it was invented, the internet has been a medium of public exchange of information. Often this information has been useful in daily living, sometimes it has been controversial, occasionally it has been offensive to someone. But I have had the freedom to post it without fear of being excluded from the internet. I no longer have that right if I wish to have high-speed access. There is no effective high-speed access except Time Warner. Time Warner adds this clause to its acceptable use policy: TIME WARNER COMMUNICATIONS SHALL HAVE THE SOLE AND UNREVIEWABLE RIGHT TO DETERMINE WHETHER CONTENT VIOLATES THESE STANDARDS. The "standards" are such that absolutely anything I post could be considered to violate them. Even if I do not violate these standards, if I purchase "unlimited access" as soon as I try to use it, I am either speed-capped or terminated. The acceptable use policy states: IF TIME WARNER DETERMINES THAT THE SUBSCRIBER HAS FAILED TO COMPLY WITH THE SERVICE'S STANDARDS OF CONDUCT OR LIMITS ON BANDWIDTH UTILIZATION, TIME WARNER MAY SUSPEND SUBSCRIBER'S ACCOUNT. It appears that Time Warner wants only customers who do not upload any comments and who use the service merely to purchase additional services. As I have been using the internet for quite a long time to communicate, not spend money with Time Warner, Time Warner doesn't want me. It appears that you will approve the AOL Time Warner merger in some manner. If you do not act to require the merged company to return to the basic principles of freedom of speech, there will be no hope for people like me who want to communicate, not purchase more Bugs Bunny cartoons. The new company will totally control high-speed access. People like me will not be allowed on the internet through the new company. It seems that you will establish some protection for the large corporations. Will you protect me too? The internet is a creation of America, and shows the world the power of freedom. It will be a sad commentary if the country which created freedom kills the most powerful voice for freedom now existing in the world. It will be a reflection on our country if all citizens of the world have freedom of speech on the internet, except American citizens. As the internet was designed for the citizens, not the corporations, I sincerely hope you consider me when you make your decision. If you do not, I believe that the result will be the death of the internet as a powerful force for freedom in general, and freedom of speech in particular. The recall includes original equiptment and replacement holographic systems of that type. Holographic system owners will be notified of the recall by mail. RoboCorp will replace all of these systems with brand new J1963-D holographic systems or other RoboCorp brand holographic systems regargless of nationality. The recall was announced by Sir Richard Butterworth esq., executive vice president of RoboCorp at a pub in Edinburgh. The British Royal Holographic Arousal Appraisal Council is currently conducting a preliminary evaluation of the systems in response to questions relating to the failures of these systems. The company is not limiting the recall. There have been approximately 341 of these systems produced. The company estimates that the number of systems still in use and involved in the recall is 341. "Wha, the bloke is not right in the head. He goes out back for a wank just a bit much, don't you think? While that is not wholly bad, it is a bit wonky. I'm a bit of a tosser myself actually. I'll be back in a few yonks" said an inebriated Butteworth. Later he commented "Look, the unit has one big problem if you don't count the wanking. It's a right bit too smarmy. The hologram is always on the pull and looking for a quick snog or a shag with some tidy bird. Seeing the bloke in action is a joy. Wall-to-wall totty in the pubs. But it isn't fair to all the other blokes in the pub looking for a random bird to have all the tarts around the hologram, know what I mean? So we plan to fix it. Oh, it also havers a bit much for anyone's liking." The company is urging for consumers who are in contact with a J1968-C holograhic system (more commonly referred to as the sexy Persian model) to take care of it and to keep it out of reach of young women who don't know any better. Consistent with the company's long-standing commitment to customer satisfaction and service, all model owners were urged to contact their nearest company-owned service center for a free inspection. The recall was inacted to protect consumer safety and satisfaction. Toronto, Ontario based Robocorp, is the largest subidiary of Butterworth Unlimited of England, the world's largest robotic hologram generator designer and manufacturer. Robocorp develops, manufactures, and markets J1968 holograms along with many other private use and public holographic generators of many nationalities and styles. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 09 Oct 2000 13:09:24 -0400 From: chad schrock Subject: Re: OT: BNL's Behind the Music "Chris K @*_*@" wrote: > sisterpuff@my-deja.com wrote: > > *snip* > > > According to Atasi, there was a span of the audience at one > > of their shows and our own Kat (the one that sang during the > > open mic at FruCon III) just so happens to have been in the > > shot.
