Okay, I sense we're having a Content Emergency here. WoopWoopWoop! Quick, time to call in the Reinforcing Content Squad! 1) Peeps! Actually, Marshmallow Pumpkins! Leah, I saw them the other day. They're ADORABLE! 2) Books! What's everyone reading? For those of you into fantasy who also like kids' stuff -- check out The Dark Is Rising series by Susan Cooper. Pretty awesome, and rather ... um ... Dark. 3) Music! This is a Musically Focussed Newsgroup, yes it is. Our lads may be off on their hie--whatchamacallit, but there's other stuff going on out there. For example, me myself, and Angie herself, will be seeing Susan Werner in Rachacha in two short weeks. Will anyone else from that noted centre of Fruvosity be present? 4) It's time for someone else to chip in some ideas, now ... - -- Lori Glitter Fairy/Tattooing Fru/Founding Member, Murray's Sect ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 01 Oct 2000 01:58:14 -0400 From: Paul Mischler Subject: Re: unsubscribe Susan Werner in Rochacha? Man... I am officially OUT of the loop now! My music plans: 1. I'm going to see Great Big Sea/Sarah Slean next Thursday @ the Water Street Music Hall... 2. I'm working on bringing Russell Wolff to RIT... being an officer in the RIT Student Music Association has its benefits :-) (The planned date is 10/19, but there is no guarantee yet... we're working on a contract presently :-) http://www.rit.edu/~musicwww/ 3. They Might Be Giants is going to be at U of R. Tory Cassis is going to be at U of R. They're scheduled for the same night (11/10). Last week, on The Coffeehouse (a morning folk and acoustic program on WERS, 88.9FM, Boston), they had Andy Stochansky in studio. He is Canadian, he is from Toronto, and his latest album was produced by none other than Don Dixon. I heard both Andy live (with a guitar) and cuts from the disc, which is called Radio Fusebox; loved both. He's got a great voice, amazing lyrics and he's a wonderful guitarist, makes me weak in the knees (a Bad Thing when you're driving on the freeway). Highly, highly recommended. For more information: http://www.andystochansky.com (complete with sound clips, a well-designed site, not too busy and very clean graphics-wise). Oh, and while we're on Lori's suggested topics. What I'm reading, you ask? In the non-fiction realm, Theories of Translation, a great compilation of writings by many famous people, translators and non-translators alike. Has pieces by Goethe, Nabokov, Paz, Schopenhauer, Pound, Nietzsche, Valery, etc. Well-edited by Rainer Schulte and John Biguenet. Fiction-wise, The Song of Roland, an anonymous (or at least of uncertain attribution) French 12th-century epic poem. Pretty gruesome, lots of bloody battle description, reads very well, I swallowed it up in about 5 hours non-stop. I got the Penguin Classics translation by Glyn S. Burgess. - -v - -------- Vika Zafrin -------- vika@attglobal.net -------- http://www.brown.edu/Research/Decameron "What comes from within is trustworthy." -- M. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 01 Oct 2000 20:02:03 GMT From: tmbgirl@my-deja.com Subject: Re: unsubscribe > Paul Mischler wrote: > > 3. Oh yean and i'm reading "the beautiful room is empty" by edmund white which, since i'm in the middle of it the verdict can't really be final but it's pretty dern good right now. > 3) Music! hehee... i'm heading down to Virginia (charlottesville) in a couple of weeks to see the amazing Judith Edelman band. Check them out if you haven't heard 'em... totally amazing! Worth my trip from NYC to VA no doubt. Other than that --- i just saw M Doughty (of ex-soul coughing) play the other night in one of his solo shows and it was a completely amazing experience... i hadn't been that impressed with a live show since i saw Mike Errico for the first time. take it easy, JOrdaN http://www.geocities.com/tmbgirl.geo Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 01 Oct 2000 17:33:11 EDT From: "Shawna Caspi" Subject: Andy Stochansky (was: Re: unsubscribe) Vika exclaimed... >Last week, on The Coffeehouse (a morning folk and acoustic program on >WERS, 88.9FM, Boston), they had Andy Stochansky in studio. Yes. Wonderful *percussionist*??? Even more so. Andy kicks ass. He used to drum for Ani Difranco (although I'm sure he's sick of that tag), he writes killer songs and has a great voice to boot. I have yet to get Radiofusebox, but between CKCU (a campus station) and CBC, I think I've heard it all :) I have a live show of his that I taped from CBC though, and it is just amazing. It's some good high quality music :) Just gotta rave about my fellow Canadians, Shawna ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ shawna@fumblers.com AIM: Fumblefly fumbler\passenger\canmuser\headliner\resident mm/syl groupie **dancing around the handbasket**wink** - --------------------------------------------------------- "everybody looks more or less like a barbie doll... ...if that's your point of reference..." -a.g. - --------------------------------------------------------- *Are you a Michaela Foster Marsh fan? Where? When? :D > 4) It's time for someone else to chip in some ideas, now ... Well, my biorhythms might be off, but isn't it about time for someone to not understand a lyric and bring it to the table for discussion? Something like: "'I like to keep in in the refrigerator...' what does that *mean*, man? It must be soooo deep." ;) ciao, donna ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 01 Oct 2000 21:38:01 -0500 From: "Mel Kelvis" Subject: Plastic World #55F4 Accepting credit cards for your business Has never been so easy & affordable!
