I absolutely would have gone and tried to have my picture taken with him (her?) had I been staying an extra day ... Also, joined my office's Fantasy Football league (I don't like football but it's all anyone there talks about during the off-season so if you can't beat 'em ...) avec husband and the tradition is to have strange team names. Since my husband and I were both big Spider Lockhart fans as kids (he played for the NY Giants and died quite young of cancer) we named the team Spidey's Fun Lickers. Not surprisingly, no one gets it but we DID we our first game this weekend against the Tagi Alliance (I am sure I am not the only one on this NG who can proudly say I never watched one nanosecond of Survivor). I've always thought the lyric was "finely." It makes so much more sense, is more poignant. Even if it turns out to be "finally," I will still think of it as "finely." There are many lyrics in that song alone (along with other songs) that can be heard differently depending on your ear and mind. I'd like to hear some "misheard" lyrics from others..... - -----Original Message----- From: Amanda.K.Potter@Dartmouth.EDU [mailto:Amanda.K.Potter@Dartmouth.EDU] Sent: Tuesday, September 05, 2000 2:43 AM To: ammf@fruvous.com Subject: Typo or misheard lyric? Ok, I asked Fordy about this one at Bogart's in June, seriously, because in Bargainville it's listed as "finally" but I thought "finely" was more paradoxical and interesting. When you think of something blurred, it's not fine, as in clear, at all. But there is something beautiful about the thought of something, especially drinking as something that can make you see in things in a "finely blurred" fashion. He told me that he sings it as "finally," and he seemed to think I was on crack for thinking that "finely" would be equally as appropriate. Maybe he changed his mind? Betsy "Am I lost? Nah, you can find me on the Wall." "Moxy Fruvous-- more important than water." You can find it at http://www.slammedia.com/music/ The reason I thought you folks might find this station interesting is that I have been a HUGE Moxy fan for years and years, and now that I'm programming Internet radio, I'm taking the opportunity to program a huge amount of their music into the mix. The entire premise of the Adventures in Radio station is that it is a genre-busting megamix of songs that spans a rather wide range of modern music, and included in that megamix are every last one of the Moxy Fruvous albums, up to and including "The C Album." I first saw Moxy in Chicago during their "Bargainville" tour, at the request of a friend from NYC who figured I'd love them. We danced our happy asses off, and a good friend of mine got pulled on stage to be the King of Spain; although he didn't know the words, it was certainly sporting of them to let him dance around on stage the whole song. At the end of the show, they came offstage into the house and sang "Gulf War Song" without microphones, and I was hooked. Listening to Moxy over the years has been an inspiration for me. It's a lot of fun putting Moxy Fruvous songs into the megamix station, and that's why I thought I would mention it here. So far, people are really enjoying Adventures in Radio. We're playing a wide range of modern & old school rock, pop, techno, trip hop, and more: Moxy Fruvous, Tori Amos, Peter Gabriel, PJ Harvey, Radiohead, Massive Attack, Afro Celt Sound System, Lauryn Hill, Parliament/Funkadelic, TMBG, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Miles Davis, Bjork, Erik B. & Rakim, the Orb, UNKLE, Cibo Matto, the Art of Noise, FSOL, Portishead, Woob, Bill Laswell & his thousands of projects, practically the whole Ninja Tunes catalog, and a lot more. Much of it is music you'll probably recognize, but scattered all throughout the mix are a lot of unexpected tracks from some unexpected places. We've also launched Modern Acappella, a station devoted to - as the name so eloquently implies - modern acappella music of all stripes. Every single acappella Moxy track is in rotation on this station; if you've ever wondered how well Moxy's acappella stuff holds up against groups that do nothing but acappella, the answer is... Moxy kicks ass! But so do a lot of these other groups, so if you've never listened to what people are doing with acappella these days, check it out - also available at http://www.slammedia.com/music It's very much been a labor of love to get these stations online. I do hope you enjoy them; give us a listen, and let us know what you think! Kurt is quite the crazy guitarist, and is well known in Toronto. I've seen him play a couple of times...once there was a huge blizzard outside and there's Kurt wailing away on his axe, while snow thrashes around the huge window behind him...very cool :) As for Martina, she is AWESOME. Very talented songwriter and great percussive guitar sound. Too bad she doesn't enounciate that well...her lyrics are SO good, you just wish you could understand them better. But she is easier to decypher live, and after hearing her multiple times, you start catching on :) I am one of her proud "Ottawa groupies" :) She knows that no matter what, if she plays here, she gets her crowd of at least 15 (doesn't sound like much, does it) of us guaranteed. Martina has a great CD out already called Unplaceables. Very raw...I think it was recorded live, I forget. I imagine the new album will be more produced (*sigh* as always, that tends to happen) But go check her out! :) Esp if you like Ani Difranco, although I'm sure Martina's very sick of the comparisions!
