The Worms concluded the workshop with Big Fat Road Manager, and Fruvous and Magda helped out on the vocals. I believe Fruvous did *gasp* *shock* Kids' Song and Boss, but they killed the crowd when they also did Dancing Queen :-) The Worms annointed DQ as the national anthem of Moxy Fruvia. I'm pleasantly tired. I taped a radio broadcast on Saturday straight to my HD for the first time using the line-in jack and software to capture a HUGE ASS .wav file. I can give it a go for this, basically set it up before I leave for work and pray it works... I was intending to tape WBER tomorrow, but I'll go for WCMF instead, since it won't be streamed and will make people happy! When he resurfaced, he handed me this. (Replies to this post will be directed to him....) Note: This filk of "The Drinking Song" is set in the universe of the SF-RPG _Traveller._ The song in this version is told by a soldier of the Sword Worlds Confederation waiting for the invasion by Imperial troops at the end of the Fifth Frontier War. The world Gram (capital of the Sword Worlds) is a double star system, thus the "double dawn" line. I kept the lines comparing drinking to war intact, mainly because they fit the mood of the song very well. The only thing I changed was adding vodka to the list of boozes, since the SW are mostly Scandinavian/Russian in nature. The Trooper's Lament by Douglas E. Berry And the band played on As the ships in orbit burned Drunk on the lawn under Gram's double dawn My rest I've finally earned He was a rock, to the end, a tower of strength I was proud to be his friend We lived by a trick for the sweet taste of victory Swore that we'd fight to the end And we'd drink, two soldiers who would live forever The world spread out for us We learned to fire lasers, saw some far places Never took life serious And the band played on As the ships in orbit burned Drunk on the lawn under Gram's double dawn My rest I've finally earned Between fights, he said "We're like ants on a hill" Living out our short lives Rushing around, standing up, falling down Till we no longer can open our eyes And we'd drink, ever notice how drinking's like war? Cup o' troops o'er the gums To the end of our health, a campaign 'gainst myself Armed with bourbons and vodkas and rums And the band played on As the ships in orbit burned Drunk on the lawn under Gram's double dawn My rest I've finally earned They're dropping bombs, we're poised on the edge of disaster Whether it's right or it's wrong We picked up our gear, tried to swallow our fear Sang a few bars of some pretty old song: Irene goodnight, Irene goodnight Goodnight Irene, goodnight Irene I'll see you in my dreams Oh to dream, of those days before war became sour Now revenge hammers down We'd beaten the best, but our final test Will come in my shattered hometown And the band played on As the ships in orbit burned Drunk on the lawn under Gram's double dawn My rest I've finally earned Come the day, and the morning is filled with bright traces Jump troops dropping in So we moved to position to support the division Though we all knew we just couldn't win He was a rock, went straight to his own Armageddon Charging out once again As the arty came in, never losing his grin He'd rather be dead than to see us not win And the band played on As the ships in orbit burned Drunk on the lawn under Gram's double dawn My rest I've finally earned - -- Kirsten M. "Sad Sweetheart of the Radio"- i remember the 1st time i heard "flagpole sitta" (#1 on BUM 4/98)... thought it was gonna be another great song that never took off, but it did. well... i have the same opinion about their latest here... let's see how well this insta-classic does. :-) "Walk The Walk"- another BUM veteran shows up on the charts here w/ her latest. Poe's gone a little more funky hardcore with this bad boy... don't be surprised if it makes people get up and jump around. "Minority"- Green Day continues to master the punk-pop tongue in cheek ditty w/ the first single off their new album due in October. "Tangerine Speedo"- remember the band figdish? neither would i if i didn't buy their album. they've split up and the remaining members formed caviar, and released this... umm... scary single. "Next Year"- a carefully planned song by the foo fighters to be released just as students are leaving for college. i really liked it at first but its already starting to wear. we'll see how it lasts. and of course.... da list- - ------------------------------------ Reader's Choice http://www.bumrock.com/rc/ - ------------------------------------ 1) Bohemian Like You- Dandy Warhols (52.48) 2) Mad Dog- Elastica (49.72) 3) Radio Whore- Orbit (40.83) 4) Out Of This World- The Cure (38.89) 5) Goodnight Moon- Shivaree (37.83) 6) Never Gonna Come Back Down- BT (35.11) 7) Barrytown- Ben Folds Five (34.43) 8) Tonight And The Rest Of My Life- Nina Gordon (33.79) 9) Basement Apartment- Sarah Harmer (28.15) 10) The Lost Art of Keeping A Secret- Queens of the Stone Age (25.78) Screaming "Let Me In!" - ---------------------- Mayan Pilot- Splashdown You're An Ocean- Fastball Eliot- Sarah Slean Touch & Go- Vibrolush Bathwater- No Doubt Happier- Guster How Soon Is Now- Snake River Conspiracy Pinch Me- Barenaked Ladies Stellar- Incubus Hemorrhage- Fuel The Way I Am- Eminem The First- Tegan & Sara Soul Catcher- The The Easy- Cowboy Mouth Leaving Town- Dexter Freebish Idol- Amanda Ghost One- Sunny Day Real Estate Sad Sweetheart of the Rodeo- Harvey Danger Walk The Walk- Poe Minority- Green Day Tangerine Speedo- Caviar Next Year- Foo Fighters Now That I Am Blind- Deathray Climbing The Walls- Stir Sparks Are Gonna Fly- Catherine Wheel Dinosaurs Will Die- NOFX *** AND DON'T FORGET TO VOTE FOR NEXT WEEK'S SONGS!!! *** http://www.bumrock.com/rc/vote.html keep on rockin ya'll... - -dan goodspeed Editor of BUMrock editor@bumrock.com http://www.bumrock.com/ ------------------------------ End of alt.music.moxy-fruvous digest V4 #365 ********************************************
