Well...) > Akchuly, I think we were using Andrew's playstation which was already set up. Yes, you were. And the funny thing is that Andrew has NO CLUE how utterly cool it is to have one's toys commandeered by a bunch of guys who are way better than most bands that suck. In fact, his comment the next day, when I asked if he had played with the guys at all, was: "No -- and it's a good thing you weren't watching them. You wouldn't have liked that game, because it was really violent." (For some reason, this statement cracks Trace up.) > And I'll also mention that this was the first time I ever touched a playstation > and I KICKED LAWRENCE'S ASS!!! It also was the first time Lizzie touched a Playstation, apparently, and I heard she was kicking some serious butt too. It cracks ME up that this bunch of Canucks so gleefully -- and easily -- corrupts my lefty-pinko-pacifist Fruhead friends. :) Lizzie's mom, to me, in shocked bemusement: "MY daughter's playing Playstation? I don't think she's ever done that!" Me: "Neither have I. Neither have lots of us. It's all Murray's fault." ************* In another post, Gella mentioned one of her sublime moments of the day, when she was sitting out on the porch and Murray waved to her through the dining room window. I had a similar moment later that night. Having dropped off Leah and Steph at the train station, I had returned to find everything grooving along. With nothing else to do but relax and absorb the rest of the night, I took a seat outside, on a bench near chad and the XPN representative, enjoying not having to be "on". Just resting, not even participating in the conversation, I glanced in the kitchen window. My kitchen window. And there was Jian, standing at my kitchen table, holding an animated conversation. Like Gella, my reaction was simply: "this is TOTALLY bass-ackwards." It was that kind of day. Deliriously off-kilter, filled with little visual/verbal vignettes that will continue to strike me, I'm sure, as I read email in "the green room" (which for a few amazing moments became the Jian-coaches-Leah-through-asthma-attack room). Or as I park the FruCar where the FruStage was, and consider the oddness of addressing my friends through Murray's mic. Or as I pass between the living room and dining room and recall Mike pondering the Frusong scavenger hunt instructions posted in the archway -- and searching out the clues Jen and Trace had devised. (And I flat-out refuse to dismantle some of those clues. I mean, how can you NOT love a tiny display consisting of a little bitty plastic doll curled up asleep on a paper heart, with doll-house books "written by" noted novelists scattered around him?) Or as I turn on the stereo and see Dave sitting there, headphones on, listening to my copy of Moon so that he'd remember all the words to Lee. Unbelievable little intersections of lives, every last one of them. And it's those intersections -- my life, Fruvous' lives, and other Fruheads' lives -- that entrance me the most. Two years ago this past Monday, I was a Fruvirgin. Not at all coincidentally, two years ago I didn't know any of the people I now consider my closest friends. But because of one (then) utterly out-of-character, spontaneous little decision, I became a non-Fruvirgin -- and because of that, I met all these people who pitched in to throw a really cool barbecue on Sunday, who brought gear, and decorations, and instruments, and games, and lots of vegetarian food, and carnivorous food, and snacky stuff and drinks of all persuasions and yummy gooey chocolatey sweets. And, oh, yeah, there was a marvelous soundtrack too. :) What a trip it has been. - -- Lori Glitter Fairy/Tattooing Fru ------------------------------ Date: 07 Jun 2000 05:36:56 GMT From: dgodwin01@aol.com (DGodwin01) Subject: Re: Mike's Guitar I believe that all their acoustic guitars are made by Simon & Patrick Co. Anyway, the setlist for last night's show: Jered (the wild boy) sahara "the kids are all right" jam -> "sugar sugar" too careful impromptu jam about the drunk guy in the audience laika sad girl lazy boy pisco boo time (with nods to Chris O and Vika) misstra know it all get in the car fly (dave broke a string during it, so they finished it acapella) michigan king of spain bj dancing queen medley disco video bargainville if only "If Only" was great tonight, IMO. The band was having problems with the keyboard module, so they couldn't use the normal organ sound they usually use with the song. Instead, we got treated to a version with Dave on piano instead. To be honest, while I like the "original" version, I _really_ like the piano sound. It seems to work even better -- the piano seems more expressive, to me. As for the "impromptu jam", there was this drunk dude that somehow slithered his way into the club. During "Too Careful", he apparently raised his hand for quite a while. Jian noticed and, after the song, asked him if he had a question for the band. His question: "Could you guys play music?", which was greeted with rousing boos and sneers from most of the audience, who, by that point, were tired of him anyway. The band then broke into a cute song about our new "special friend" which, among other things, mentioned him going out to the park and masturbating, but not enjoying that either. Despite the drunk guy, the show was incredible. Tomorrow and Wednesday will hopefully be just as fun. - - A.P. ------------------------------ Date: 7 Jun 2000 09:35:14 GMT From: aprestin@ccs.neu.garbage.edu Subject: Re: tuesday HoB mini-review [oops] aprestin@ccs.neu.garbage.edu wrote: : Jered (the wild boy) : sahara : "the kids are all right" jam -> "sugar sugar" : too careful : impromptu jam about the drunk guy in the audience : laika : sad girl : lazy boy d'oh. I just logged in, checked my email, and, as always this week, have read posts about the concert. I saw one from Lori, sat here and read it and was HONESTLY moved to tears. Literally. Those of you who know me know that I admittedly wear my heart on my sleeve and cry at the thoughts of my friends and stuff, but this post hit me-WHOOM!!! Recalling those special moments of the party that I, too experienced, from all of the just way-cool ones that Lor spoke of(PS Lor-I get my pics back today and got a shot of Dave at the stereo with the headphones-tis ALL yours) just took me back to what to this point SERIOUSLY has to be one of the most special experiences of my life.
