Following an opening act with a good voice but over-meandering tunes (for my taste, anyhoo), Fru came on a little after 10. They announced they were opening with Madonna's Substitute My Love, actually opened with The Who's Substitute. They ended with The Drinking Song. In between, they did a jam with the opening act scatting, and played a mix of songs leaning toward the two most recent albums (Pisco Bandido, Video Disco Bargainville, Heatseeker Boy, Pork Tenderloin, abd Guinea Pig off of C -- which was for sale at $17, the extra bucks going to the house.) Topics of discussion included the BeeGees, Brittany Spears, and Elian Gonzalez. The four were in their usual fine form, each displaying their own personality and energy, yet all clearly working hard. (Mike stumbled a bit during Boo Time, slipping into the wrong verse at one point.) With V.D. Bargainville, Jian was doing that thing where he says "I have a college friend who sez we can pay one price for..." and then holds the mike out to the audience, who shouted "two", of course. But Jian looked unsatisfied for no visible reason, so he did it again. And again. By the third time, trying to figure out what it was he was looking for, some folks began to shout "three". It turns out there were some audience members standing right in front of Jian who weren't joining in on the shout. A reasonable portion of the audience was there for the opening act (L.A. is not yet a big Frutown.) However, I was engrossed in the music and The Lovely Lara, so I really didn't see if they were being converted. - --Nat Gertler ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 May 2000 13:07:40 -0700 From: Taylor Nelson Subject: The Fru-Tang Clan? Okay, some of you may have seen this website before, but there's a place http://www.recordstore.com/wuname where you can enter in anyone's first and last names and receive your Wu-Tang name! So, with the Lads in town this evening, I figured it's as good a time as any to see what their names are.... Jian Ghomeshi: Detective Ventriloquist Mike Ford: Erratic Assassin Dave Matheson: Big Gay Mule Murray Foster: Bellowing Rap Machine Dave Tobey (can't forget Tobey!): Flippant She-Creature Okay, now some of ya might say "oh my god, that's awful" and try to re-enter there names hoping to get something different. Ain't gonna happen, tho. No matter how many times you enter in the same name, you get the same result. But pretty damn funny, IMHO! - -Taylor (Optimistic Lyricist) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 May 2000 21:29:59 GMT From: Marie-Claude Danis Subject: Re: The Fru-Tang Clan? Now how right on is THAT! :) - - MC (the 23rd Buchman) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 May 2000 23:37:23 GMT From: drea25@my-deja.com Subject: Re: Columbia House: We Have Our Finger on the Pulse . . . > We have found 3 artists similar to Moxy Früvous: > Alan Jackson > Chris LeDoux > Garth Brooks LOL! Actually, as a Garth Brooks fan (and not ashamed to admit it!) I've had a couple of his songs on my "songs I'd love to hear the guys cover" list, though I know it'll never happen. That being said, the only way I can see Fruvous being at all similar to Garth would be that he gets a little insane when he's on stage, climbing things, running around, etc. Sound like anyone we know (Mike)? ;> As for Alan Jackson.. he has some good stuff too, but I can't think of any way that he'd be similar to the guys *shrug* Drea (who still wants to hear the guys do "Friends in Low Places" and Murray solo "The Dance") Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 May 2000 23:24:34 GMT From: drea25@my-deja.com Subject: Re: Sad Girl video review I figured I should put in my two cents considering I was there for the whole day as an extra :) It was a lot of fun, even though it was long and a bit chilly at times. What I can mention are just random visuals that I still have: Mike as Secret Agent Man; Dave-o as a businessman, looking like he just walked out of an office on Bay Street (just around the corner from where we were shooting), cell phone, briefcase and all; Murray walking over to the Sad Girl all full of hope, and then getting rejected (and the crowd goes "awwwwwwwww") and stomping on those poor flowers *g*; and the guys reacting to the earthquake ;> Actually, reacting to the earthquake was one of the first shots I was in - the guys didn't have all the fun :) It's really interesting seeing just how much work goes into making a video for a song - hard to believe that the final product will be less than 5mins long considering the shoot (including lunch) was 13 hrs. I can't wait to see how it all comes together in the final edit :) Drea Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy. ------------------------------ Date: 26 May 2000 02:56:31 GMT From: bbwminors@aol.com (BBWMinors) Subject: Re: Columbia House: We Have Our Finger on the Pulse . . . Well, my name has been dragged through every Garth Brooks website and crapped all over (just check out archives of Planet Garth from a year ago March) ever since I wrote a national column tearing him a new one for pretending to be a ballplayer ... however I LOVE the Chris Gaines CD and have made "Lost In You" my personal karaoke solo ... thought it was Tracy Chapman when I first heard it though. I think, Nat, that what Jian was/is looking for is for the crowd to *sing* "two" in key, as opposed to just shouting it. - -LA Dave - ----------------------------- Remove "post" to reply privately - ----------------------------- ------------------------------ End of alt.music.moxy-fruvous digest V4 #237 ********************************************
