My point is... So, Cheryl and I are at the bar tonight, and as you can all imagine Monday at the bar is pretty dead. But the DJ is pretty OK and hes an "all request" DJ so Cheryl brought B-ville up to him and asked him if he would play Track 6 (our beloved Lazy Boy). He picks up his mic and makes a point of pointing out that we know how to do the whole "request" thing (bring it in yourself, that way the DJ cant say he doesnt have it). Well, about 45 minutes later, he says something like "Heres something new and different, blah blah blah." Well, about half way through the song the stupid twits on the dance floor start begging him (very loudly) to play some *cough* "real" music. Like they would know real music, if it bit them in the ass. So , he politely fades MF out and starts up some random lots-of-bass dance tune. You know the one I'm talking about, right? You mean theres more than one, oh, my bad. I guess all that I really have to say is that I am SO dissapointed. Its one thing to try to convert your friends but completely another to try to convert the general public. Silly fruhead, what were you thinking? Highlight of the evening, I got to hear Lazy Boy in a club. Well, most of it.... Yeah, very cool, except it does have to do with the band. :) The "definition" is, of course, taken from the band's manymany definitions of the word. Of course. Nobody's saying they shouldn't have played there in the first place. I, for one, am extatically happy I went. However... >I stood at the back up on the raised area, stage Murray, and the view was >fantastic and the sound was pretty clear. Huh. I'm surprised to hear that. We were in the back as well, sitting right in front of the raised stage area, on those big storage-bin-like things, and also stage Murray. I could hear the instruments okay, I could hear Jian and Dave, but when they weren't on lead, Murray and Mike were lost, and thus the balance was completely shot, for me. Add to that the echo, and the sound was... well, I'm starting to repeat myself. Eh, whatever. I still think IH is the better choice. Of course, Pearl Street is better than nothing, you're right. - -v - -------- Vika Zafrin -------- vika@attglobal.net -------- http://www.brown.edu/Research/Decameron "Are you done [with your assignment]?" I start channel surfing, nothing but infomercials at 1:30 it seems. Then , around 1:45 I come to the comedy network (Canada) and a half decent comic is on the Just For Laughs tv show. His 7 minute skit ends, and just as they are going to commercial, the announcer says "Stay tuned for two comedy songs by Moxy Fruvous" or something to that effect. I can't believe what I just heard, "did he really say Moxy Fruvous?" Is all I can think as I stumble out of my waterbed. Luckily I had watched my tape of Fruvous @ Conan , followed by Guster @ Killbourne, and had left it cued to that spot. I've got the remote poised in hand, ready to hit the record button. Commercial ends, and voila, Moxy Fruvous! They start out with a political song (King of Spain) and I can't believe how funny they look. [1] I also can't believe how quiet the audience is. It was like complete dead silence [2] The song ends, and it goes to commercial again, I'm thinking I got ripped off, as the announcer had said two songs. But there should still be about 5 minutes left in the show, maybe there's some more. Commercials end, and woooohooooo they're still on stage! Ash Hash is the closing song and at least this time some people laugh when Murray goes for the big toke. So uhm, I taped it, I think. I mean, it was 2 in the morning, and I'm really hoping it wasn't a dream. Anyone else see it? Mike aka Racer aka neeeeedsleeeeeep [1] The show was copyright 1995, Jian had the really long hair, and was wearing jeans. Murray had a toque/hat thing on with the long hair. Dave had hair! and Mike, well, I didn't think they were popular then, but Mr. Ford was wearing bright red parachute pants. You know the style, big, pouffy, and red.[3] [2] It was soooooo quiet. And during the "Do you want to know?!" part, the audience yelled out "Yes!" instead of "Tell us king!" It was eery. [3] That was my first ever footnote in a post. Scary eh? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Apr 2000 15:21:13 GMT From: Marie-Claude Danis Subject: Re: Just For Laughs Mike writes about Fruvous on JFL Yup. Many times, actually. The quiet crowd can be explained by the facts that (a) Quebeckers (Just For Laughs is in Montreal) tend to be a bit more subdued on the heckling thing [1], (b) Just For Laughs is mostly stand-up comedians, and (c) they had no friggin clue who Moxy Fruvous was. They still don't :) But they liked it, obviously. I love those poofy pants (to match the poofy hair), and I wish Murray would wear that shirt again. Mphm. [1] And don't ask them to clap along. For some reason we Quebeckers have a thing about being clapping with the wrong rhythm. I have no clue where that comes from. It just is. Took me years to correct it :) ~MC, way cooler than her neighbours next door. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Apr 2000 15:44:07 GMT From: JohnJ3@8675903asp.gq.nu Subject: Advertise your company to millions!!
