Is that true? Not to enter into this debate, but to answer your question "well, sort of." At least in my case. When I was in high school (note that the high school cirriculum has just changed this year and I know nothing about it). Plus each province has their own cirriculum, so I just answer for my years in high school - and my school was small, so other schools might have offered more than this. But it was: Grade 9: none Grade 10: Canadian Grade 11: Ancient Civilizations Grade 12: American Grade 13/OAC: World (or something, I didn't take that) So, yes, American history was all about american history (and I don't remember much about it other than watching a horribly graphic movie about the Donner party!). But to actually answer your question, yes, my Canadian history course did branch into american history (but I must stress that it is really on a teacher-teacher basis how the course is taught - so other people may have had a different experience). My teacher's view was that you need to know what was going on in the States to understand what was happening in Canada. For example, looking at what prompted our involvement in the world wars (sorry, it's been a long time since I took history, so I won't go into any detailed thoughts for fear of being corrected). I'll stop rambling. Hope that made sense Sara ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: 24 Apr 2000 07:23:59 GMT From: spin0za1@aol.commmm (Spin0za1) Subject: Re: 4/22 setlist and review and comments About the crowd... I'm really quite mixed on this. Some of the crowds heckling actually amused me quite a bit... and I KNOW the lads had some fun with it... on the other hand, some of the behavior WAS absolutely inexcusable, even for newbies. (And I'm pretty easy on newbies 'cause I remember how I was at my second show... God, I HATE myself!) One inexcusable thing was... that... that GUY! Overall though, it was a high energy crowd, good exposure for the guys and I think the guys played off it amazingly well and it ended up being the best show I've seen since the Keswick. On the other hand, I really like the atmosphere of the Iron Horse. All of the Iron Horse shows have sounded better, too, but I don't know enough about sound systems to attribute it to the hardware or acoustics. Cranky Monarch King of Spain was painful at Pearl Street, literally! I and my companion had to cover our ears while it was on (which had an effect that wasn't too bad, actually). It was reminiscent of a Janeane Garofalo bit where she said she could tell she was getting old when she had to leave a Weezer concert because it was too loud. Depends on your point of view. The 4/22 show was a late addition to their schedule and by the time it had been announced, the Iron Horse was probably booked solid (ie, they didn't have a whole lot of choice in the matter). So the choice was: 1) No show 2) Show at Pearl St. I was happy that they chose option #2. I stood at the back up on the raised area, stage Murray, and the view was fantastic and the sound was pretty clear. Hey welcome to our Moxy Früvous group! Don't be scared although we sometimes can get sorta wierd....be sure to visit www.fruvous.com maintained by Frühead extrodinare Chris O'Mally. While you're there read the amm-f FAQ for lots of information. Also check out the awesome site by Josh Woodward, www.fruhead.com for all us MF fan(atics) can hang out! For the best album for a new fan the general consenus is Live Noise. It's a grand reptoire of all different types of Früvous music. Although some new fans are slightly turned off by some of the banter it is one of the best examples of their wit and originaltiy (not to mention occasional crudeness) :) It really depends on which music you originally heard. For the somewhat funny and serious album the first one Bargainville. For a more serious Frü intro try Wood. The fun, saterical album is The 'b' Album (soon to be followed up by The 'c' Album). An experimental yet Bargainville related album is You Will Go To The Moon. The most recent album is Thornhill which has a poppy, upbeat yet serious, 70's, Beatlesque tone! Everyone has there own opinion on the matter...it really depends on your personal taste! The song that got me very interested was the indie tape version of My Baby Loves a Bunch of Authors. Live Noise was my first CD and that got me hooked. You may not like all the albums at first but most of them grow on you! Anyway remember to check out www.fruvous.com for a TON of info! - -- Cara Kozack It's a reference to a _______ that you've never even heard of by\in a ______ that you probably don't even like. fruomffan@xoommail.com http://fly.to/cjkk ------------------------------ End of alt.music.moxy-fruvous digest V4 #197 ********************************************
