Will there be Mounties? Hey on my class trip to Ottawa we actually went to see the riots (well actually we were touring parliment hill and just happened to be there). But I was somewhat surprised at the difference in the demonstations at Parliment Hill and the American embassy. The ones at the Hill were rather peaceful while the embassy ones had the police and horses in riot gear! Mind you there was a sniper on the west wing of Parliament during the more peaceful one. At least, I think it was an essay. But, regardless of the label you attach to it, it's a moving and forceful piece of work, and it performs well too. Like the part about Shakespeare's sister. I just wanted to share my story with you. Last night my campus held their fifth annual Take Back the Night. At this event, people speak out about the violence they have incurred throughout their lives...and take a stand to recover what is rightfully theirs--the night and their lives. In the end, everyone became survivors and no longer victims. While there, I finally took the stand and witnessed about the abuse that I experienced until I was 17 years old. This year was the fourth time that I went to the event and I finally motivated myself to stand up in front of everyone and tell my story. I cried hard during the entire time, but I got through it. With the support of my dearest friends, I stood up and said that it has happened to me and will no longer happen to me. The reason why I am sharing this story with all of you is because I have gotten the feeling that a lot of you have experienced great pain in your lives. It may or may not be due to abuse...but it is still pain and it has effected you greatly. I decided last night that I need to do something about the abuse and sadness in our lives. I just wanted to say to all of you that it's not your fault. You did not do anything to bring on such pain in your lives. There are some fucked up people out there. I'm glad that you all have found each other here in this Newsgroup and the MF concerts. You are making a difference for everyone here. You are all survivors...even if the hurt and pain did not effect you directly... And, I want to say thanks to JordAN :-) for story time on IM. You're the first person that I told my entire story to and that was a key factor in my getting up the courage to stand up last night and speak. I broke the silence once and for all! Tuesday is my birthday and this will be the first birthday that I will not see myself as a victim. Major props to me! I'll see you all in April. They had just come from the Tonic concert that was held on our campus. After talking with them for a few minutes, telling them what happened while at the event (see other post), they tell us that they are headed back to see if they could meet the band while they walk out to their tour bus...I decided to go with them. It was pretty cool. We went in to Wilson Hall (where the concert was held) and just walked up to the guys and talked with them. They gave me a hard time because I didn't go to the concert...they were signing Atasi and Laura's tickets...and I didn't have anything for them to sign. So, what do they do? They sign my Take Back the Night pin. Major points! That made my night even more memorable. Ok, I'm done writing now. Hope you are having a great Wednesday!
