Just wanted to add my little comment . . . I'm going away all year next year. Leuven, Belgium is the destination. I'll be attending the oldest Catholic university in the world in a town that is medieval and safe . . . and has 200 bars, but that's irrelevant :). I'll be within 1000 km of every major European capital, and a short flight away from places I've never been. I'm 20 years old and couldn't care less about sleeping in a gross hostel if it means I get to roam the streets of Paris all night or hop from boat to boat in Venice or drink *real* Guiness in an Irish pub in the town my grandmother was born in. I know that 10 years from now I'll balk at the hostel and be more interested in, like, winetasting than meeting cool people and experiencing profound cultural immersion. I'll be closer to Africa than I've ever been before, and cheaping out on the accomodations on the Continent will leave me with enough money to go there. I'll see cities that are three times as old as my entire country. I'll learn more just by living and breathing there than I ever will from a textbook here at home . . . and, yes, more than I'll ever learn from a Früvous song. I love Früvous. But would I even *consider* passing all that stuff up for accessibility? Um, no. In fact, I hadn't even entertained the thought 'til you brought it up. The only thing that's actually made me even the slightest bit apprehensive about the trip is that some of my favorite professors *here* are teaching amazing classes next year . . . but even that isn't any kind of *real* deterrent. Gella, I can guarantee that 10 years from now when Früvous isn't together anymore, you'll be beating your head against a wall for passing up an amazing opportunity just so that you wouldn't have to miss a couple of concerts. Honestly. And, I mean, think about the wealth of stuff you'll have to share with the guys when you come back :). - --Kate - -- Kate Leahy kleahy@loyola.edu katiewow@fruhead.com "And in all the idiots I see Thoughtless men casting doubts on me . . . Jeni wrote: Does anyone have stories to tell of their first Moxy Fruvous concert or any of their cocnerts? And the reply: Why, yes! I saw my first Fruvous concert in Chicago the day before American Thanksgiving, 1997. My brother and I had heard "B" numerous times before and were pretty excited. I expected Schuba's Tavern to be a lot fuller than it actually was, so we were ridiculously early and hung out eating ice cream (because we were too dopey to realize how cold it was outside). We were among the few, once we got to the venue, who already had tickets, so we had wonderful places to stand. (I used to go to Phish concerts a lot, and I always thought "close to the stage" meant "you can sort of tell which one is which if you squint hard.") Well, the sound system was miserable, but the concert was amazing. I was just amazed at the energy and goodwill pouring off the stage (and the people around us) from the very first song. I was also amazed at how much interaction there was between the band and the fans. Jian mentioned that there was going to be a mad rush to the front any minute now to make room for the people still coming in. Somebody in the audience yelled out "Like the Who in Cincinnati," and that comment spawned a set of Who fragments. I'd never seen musicians who seemed better able to read each others' minds. That collective wavelength--and the spontaneity that it allows--continues to be what I like best about Fru concerts: you can't tell what to expect, except that you'll probably have a really good time. I'm sure I'll meet you soon! Enjoy! - -Rachel ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! Juno now offers FREE Internet Access!
