Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll ’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe: All mimsy were the borogoves, And the mome raths outgrabe. “Beware the Jabberwock, my son! The jaws that bite, the claws that catch! Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun The frumious Bandersnatch!” He took his vorpal sword in hand: Long time the manxome foe he sought— So rested he by the Tumtum tree, And stood awhile in thought. And, as in uffish thought he stood, The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame, Came whiffling through the tulgey wood, And burbled as it came! One, two! One, two! And through and through The vorpal blade went snicker-snack! He left it dead, and with its head He went galumphing back. “And, hast thou slain the Jabberwock? Come to my arms, my beamish boy! O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!” He chortled in his joy. ’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe: All mimsy were the borogoves, And the momeraths outgrabe. ... and it doesn't appear in the musical version of Jabberwocky that we're attempting in my school chorus ensemble, either (just my luck. There's been a lot of discussion recently on the Dar-List about the official Dar Williams web page, which hasn't been updated in, uh, over a year, and what we fans can do about it. Somebody used FHDC as an example of the kind of fan-based site that Dar fans might want to consider creating. So I thought that was pretty cool. Also, nothing to do with FHDC, but I played Fruvous at work for the first time on Friday. One of the other women I work with asked what I was listening to, and then said, "Oh, my brother likes them. And my ex-roommate goes to see them whenever they're in town." I was so shocked to get a different response from the usual, "WHO?!", that I didn't even know what to say. I have this cassette tape, see? It's like a zillionth-generation bootleg, sounds like arse. It was passed to me by my old roommate. It is definitely the greatest album of all time - it's like a rock opera or something about a guy who leaves his home town, goes to college, fails out and comes home. The problem is, I have no idea what it is, or who recorded it. The tape is labeled "Physics," so I assume that's either the band or the album title. My roommate has no idea who it is either, and we are both dying to find decent copies. Identifying marks ... let's see ... it has 15 songs. There is a fucking HILARIOUS song about a guy who gets really sick of chicks dissing him and goes bonkers ("I'm a pal, I'm a shoulder, I'm an ego boost, and there's nothing between my legs ... the only social disease I've contracted is bitterness"). There is a song about slacking at the diner that kicks ass. There is a song about coming home from college and finding all the jocks from high school working at Burger King. The music sounds like "Lincoln"-era They Might be Giants crossed with Fugazi or-dare I say it?-Foo Fighters. If anyone knows anything about this, or where I can get it, please let me know.
