Beasi) Subject: OT: Davinci's Notebook show at Yale last night (review) Hey everyone, I know some of you are DVN fans and thought I'd post this little mini-review. DVN played in a small room in New Haven, CT on the Yale campus. We got there rather early and they were in the middle of sound check. One of the songs they sound checked was a-capella Message! They sounded great. The opening act was "Out of the Blue", an a-cappela club of about 20 or so students who were really great and also set up the DVN gig. DVN was fantastic, opening with Come Together, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and With A Little Help from friends. A good selection from each album was played including (in no particular order) the I Dream of Jeannie Theme, Liposuction, Secret Asian Man, Jump In The Line, Title of the Song (my copy of their CD came in handy for that one!), Ally McBeal, Saggy Diaper Blues, Mickey Mouse March, and Kingdom in the Sky. They closed with What a Wonderful World and Stuck In The Middle With You, and they also did a "request" set including Hit Me Baby One More Time, Free Bird, and Unchained Melody (as sung by Jabba the Hut). Afterwards, they chatted with people and each signed pictures for us. What a fun night! If you haven't heard this band, you owe it to yourself to give them a listen. Check out http://www.davinicisnotebook.com to hear sound clips. Their first album includes TMBG's "Shoehorn With Teeth" with special guests Moxy Früvous! Everyone in the area go out and support this great band on their Northern tour! Just to clarify what Maureen wrote, the Preregistration deadline of FEBRUARY 7th is the date we need to hear from you for planning purposes, (we REALLY DO need to hear from you) and the last date that the 12 dollar admission will be available. Note you can still go to frucon (assuming there is space) but it will cost you 3 extra bucks. Even if you decide to go after the 7th please fill out the form anyway. The more we know in advance the better off we will be. Also, just in case anyone was confused, the little yellow form we had up on fhdc earlier was NOT the preregistration form. That was just a little thing for us to get a preliminary idea. The preregistration form asks you for your name and stuff like that. (Otherwise how would we know who gets in for 12 dollars?) So if you haven't filled out the full preregistration form go do it now! Thanks a bunch! The "people" I'm inferring are AJ and Rodney Don't you just love how he says a nice anonymous "people" in the text and then practically gives out names and addresses in the footnotes? :) Anyway my take on it is actually that it is not any different from their audio taping policy. i.e.. Don't be disruptive to the show or to other's enjoyment thereof. Asking never hurts, of course, but in many instances you may not need to. (i.e.. If you see Chad and 7 other tapers with mic stands set up, you are probably fine.) The one thing to remember is that the guys DO get self conscious with cameras stuck in their faces. If you are going to tape, do it from a ways back (You won't get much of a good shot from the front row anyway). Basically I'd say if you are no more obtrusive than a mic stand, you probably won't be an undue distraction. Of course some of the best times to videotape are at outdoor shows in the summer. In these kinds of venues you will often see a lot of people with cameras. For those type of shows light is less of a problem, and you are usually far enough back that there is no issue whatsoever with your camera. Hope that helps. That particular night, I didn't bring a camera and spent my time focusing on the amazing show, instead of focusing a camera lens. After the show, I said to my friend, "that was a great show!" he responded by saying, "not as good as the last time we saw the Who."
