Ln asked: <> Well, okay, actually I can't really remember what I was doing when I heard about that, but it reminds me of something that happened at work yesterday. I work in the children's room of a library, and a man was asking where there were books for beginning readers that he could get for his son, so I mentioned Dr. Seuss, and he said, "Oh, my son can't stand Dr. Seuss. He says that there's no point, it's just a lot of words that rhyme! And I thought about it and said, 'you know what? you're right.'" Well, I wasn't going to get into an argument about it with the guy, but *of course* Dr. Seuss books have a point! _The Butter Battle Book_ discusses the stupidity of war, _The Lorax_ certainly calls for respecting the environment, _Green Eggs and Ham_ (frucontent!) is about being open to trying new things...I'm sorry for this rather strange tangent, but I was just very confused and bothered by that guy's comment. love Lizzie ------------------------------ Date: 31 Jan 2000 00:14:22 GMT From: saphiracat83@aol.com (SaphiraCat83) Subject: Re: Fruvous webring >I know that FDC has a list of links to other Fruvous sites on the web, but I >was inspired last night to make a web ring. Kate, I'd call this a *reasonable* level of interpretation... not at all over-interpretation. ;) I have a necklace kind of similar in shape to his, and I play with it constantly when I wear it. It feels good. =) peace, ellen (a rare post from home) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 31 Jan 2000 02:15:28 GMT From: SugarFly26@aol.com Subject: Re: Runes and things There isn't a big deal, I don't know how (if) it got started as one. And someone (Zainab?) cleared up my original question, which is what the necklace is. A scarab. Cool. The end. That's all I asked about the necklace. The rune conversation had nothing to do with trying to pry into Jian's personal life. - ------------> Ln ------------------------------ Date: 31 Jan 2000 02:05:32 GMT From: spin0za1@aol.commmm (Spin0za1) Subject: OT: Malcolm in the Middle Anyone else think this is the best show??? :) I've been unfaithful to TMBG since I found Früvous... She's just incredibly... the fire bells went off one time and we smelled smoke and there were firemen in the hallways and she still didn't get us out of the building. Anyway, (I wasn't here for this... I'm not THAT evil) since there's a blackboard at both ends of the room, one time her class turned around all the desks and put hers at the other end of the room. She didn't know what was going on, but she was really confused and didn't quite know why. I know, it's horrible, but seriously, when you put a bunch of smart kids (I go to nerd school) with a teacher like that they need to find SOME way to stay entertained. I don't give a damn about any of the political crap. Cuba is a terrible place to be. My Hebrew teacher is a Cuban refugee. He tells us every single day about how it was in Cuba. But if Elian wants to go back no one should be keeping him from going back. He didn't ask to be brought here. Likewise, if Elian wants to stay, no one should make him go back. Maybe he knows something of how bad it is in Cuba. I personally have not heard ANYONE ask what he wants... and whenever I bring up the question I'm told that I'm crazy. "He's 6 years old! He doesn't know what he wants!" Bullshit! People speak of children as if they don't have minds! As if they're not quite human untik they turn 21! The fact of the matter is that this is a little boy who just lost his mother and is now being thrown around like a piece of disputed property! I'm not saying he's not being treated well, this little boy gets just about everything his little heart could desire right now (I wish I had that many toys) but he is not being taken into consideration as a person with rights and feelings and thoughts! For God's sake, when I was 6 years old I knew better than my parents what was going on between them but I wasn't allowed to say so because I was 6 years old and the result was disasterous! Sorry, I get really mad about this. The laws do not protect the rights of children to choose... well, anything really. Everyone knows better than the child what is best for him. Why? because they're older. But they are not in Elian's mind. They DON'T know what's best for him. No one does. If they KNEW then there wouldn't be a debate. I just find it sickening that no one seems to care what he wants. that's my angry rant, please don't kill me... "To believe that knowledge is ignorance is noble.
