I am not sure what the neighborhood is like > though, since I am coming from Seattle, but it might be an alturnative to the other > hotels, esp. considering that the mariott is so incredibly expensive. Just to note, the hotel where the con is being held is the COURTYARD (by Mariott), NOT the Eaton Center Mariott. I don't know which one you called. Now, to answer the question: I've stayed at the Bond Place several times. It is decent. The rooms are small, but perfectly acceptable. The location is pretty good (Dundas and Yonge). It has fewer amenities than many of the larger downtown hotels. The area around there is partly kind of sleezy. There are some streetwalkers thereabouts and there is a housing project a few blocks away. Also I think there is a shelter of some kind a few doors down. Having said all that, the area is not as bad as I just made it sound. This is right downtown and there many business and stuff around so it isn't like it is a slum or anything. The other thing to remember is that Toronto is not a US city. The crime rate is much lower there, so even a "not too nice" area is nothing like as bad as it would be in a US city. In summary, I guess what I'm saying is that MAYBE women shouldn't walk alone at night near the Bond Place, but other than that I wouldn't worry about it. Having said all that, let me encourage you all to stay at the Colony Hotel at which we have a special con rates of $109 CDN per night. The Colony is only $20 CDN (about $14 US) more than the Bond Place, but from what I understand, it is a large and very nice hotel. It is also the "official con residence" where many of the other fruheads will be staying, and if you want to be with the other crazy people you gotta stay at the asylum, right? :) To book at the Colony, call Monday-Friday between 9am-5pm Toronto time for the in-house reservations department. The after-hours desk won't have access to our special rate.
