I had the cool opportunity to meet the author of this book, which is easily my favorite book of all time. He lives in Western Mass and does readings and talks at bookstores from time to time, so I have a neat signed personalized copy. I'd love to have Jules Feiffer sign it as well, but where do you find him? Anyway, turns out he immensely dislikes the animated film. I've actually never seen it, and ever since he told me that he hates it, I have lost interest in doing so. I said "but it's Chuck Jones!" He likes Chuck Jones - actually wrote something else that Chuck animated, but he dislikes the movie. He said some people are interested in doing a live action version of it with digital effects and stuff, but he couldn't go into more detail. Recently, however, there was a premiere of an opera of The Phantom Tollbooth in Northampton. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to attend, so I can't offer a review. I have been a voracious reading since I was 5. The Phantom Tollbooth is one of my favorite "children's" books and I still have my copy. I used to work part-time at B. Dalton and Barnes and Noble. Needless to say, all of my pay check went to buying books. (I'm a bookaholic!) One day I purchased all of favorite books from when I was a kid that I didn't own. I got A Wrinkle in Time, My Father's Dragon, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIHM, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Trolley Car Family (a book my mom loved!). The last time I moved, I had 33 boxes of books! Who knows how many I have now! One of my friends who helped me move 3 years ago made me promise not to move for at least two years as he didn't want to help me move my books for a while!
