Kat's back!!! I just want you to know that I had a perfect Thanksgiving today. I spent it with some old friends of mine whom I hadn't seen in a while, and we spent hours eating, drinking, and discussing jadite glassware purchases on E-Bay. One half of the host couple had spent a large sum of money on a jadite juicer, and to retaliate, the other half bought another one at a cheaper price to prove the first party made a mistake. When the cheaper juicer arrived it was...oh...about an inch and a half in diameter. None of us are really sure, but the consensus was it's either a cherry/blackberry/olive juicer (If there is such a thing--which we doubt--but then where DOES olive oil come from?) or maybe it was originally a toy. All we know is it was a BARGAIN!!! So, E-Bay shoppers beware! Yep. It was a blast! Actually, as I'm rereading this, it sounds really boring, but trust me, we spent a LONG TIME discussing the possibilities of what the item's use really was, and there were some fascinating and clever suggestions. Who needs party games? Just play, "Name That Juicer!" Anyway, back to Kat: Katrin L. I don't post on this thing all that much, usually just to shamelessly promote my cheaply made bits of fruvous comics when I get around to them (thanks for all the support, everyone, i PROMISE I'll get you all one if you supply me with a S.A.S.E.). BUT this isn't about that...This is about something that's been going on lately that troubles me as a fellow fru-fan. And I hope I don't come out sounding "greater than thou" by saying this...Some of you have to chill out. There's been this great mystery floating about pertaining to "Why can't we tape the show" or "Why doesn't INSERT BAND MEMBER NAME HERE come out after the shows" or whatever...Here's the skinny: Because they don't WANT to. I enjoy this band as much as all of you, but I also understand that these guys are normal people...They have homes and eat and go potty just like everyone else. If they prefer NOT to come out after a show, give them that option and don't whine about it. If they don't want you recording a show, then accept that. TRUST me, we've had many more opportunity to tape these shows than any other band on the planet would give us. Maybe the record company doesn't want it, maybe someone's voice is a bit out of whack, maybe it's new material experimentation, maybe it's any number of things. Maybe So-And-So would rather just chill backstage after a show instead of coming out and greeting a fan to get their ten-BILLIONTH autograph (I am guilty of this as well). It's not that they don't APPRECIATE you as a fan, it's just that MAYBE it was a bad day, week, year... MAYBE they are getting worried about certain fans who go to three thousand shows a year and act like Moxy Fruvous owes them something. Well, I have news for you all, kiddies...They don't owe you ANYTHING but a good show, and we ALWAYS get that. They don't HAVE to come out and sign things or chat, they don't HAVE to take photos with you, and they CERTAINLY don't have to remember you from the last show. It's always nice when they do, but if they don't, don't take it personally...These guys see THOUSANDS of faces a year...MILLIONS even...If they don't look at you and go "HEY! IT's WHATSERNAME!" don't think that they don't love you...Well, think about it this way: They don't KNOW you. And they can't be expected to. And just because you may go to 30 or 40 shows a year doesn't mean you get any different treatment then the first timer who is, if you think about it, more important in a way. This is a business, and that is a potential new client. Moxy Fruvous is known for their kindness to fans. And you know damned well that they appreciate all of us. But we are (thankfully) a growing fanbase, and with growth comes change. Change in the band's behavior and more importantly, in ours. Noone likes a psycho-fan. Noone likes having to listen to them banter on and on about the same old things. You try getting on a stage for a couple of hours, jumping around, singing whatever, and NOT bee pooped at the end of the show. I'll tell you this much, how many of you have ever had a brief 5 minute chat with the members of U2? So let's quit this obnoxious behavior and just be thankful that we have the opportunity to listen to a fantastic band put on a WONDERFUL show. And the times we DO get to personally thank them for a job well done? Think of it as special, sure, but not as a marriage proposal, if you get my meaning. That's it for me, kids... The rest of you who have seen more than two of their concerts in a year should be happy. Not all bands tour for so long, and perform so many times, for so many years. We've been lucky that they aren't the arrogant showmen that so many musicians are, and that they do, more often than not, come out after a show and say hello to their fans, and that they do appreciate us, and they do take the time to sign autographs and take pictures.
