It's certainly a selfish preferecne, as I realize there are those out there (my father among them, who is passing on the Westbeth shows for that very reason) who can't really stand for that long. But I personally *vastly* prefer standing shows to sitting shows. More than I can express. bopping around between the back of a chair and two armrests just doesn't cut it for me... And being as I'd never been to an all sit down concert by any artist before Ocean City, it just seems a bit.. odd to me. There's energy, there's msuic... and everyone just *sits* there. This was the one aspect of the show that my fruvirgin friends both were disappointed with. my 2 cents, for what it's worth ;-) [1] ~jen [1] about... 1.25 cents Canadian? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Nobody likes you when you're 23"-- Blink 182 "Do you know that you are very strong?"-- Grover "Measure your life in love."--Rent ------------------------------ Date: 23 Nov 1999 03:11:15 GMT From: Veronica J Gruneberg <6vjg@qlink.queensu.ca> Subject: Re: OT: GBS on Bullard tonight You did. you had a wonderful time. :) I realized after I said that that there is more than one Cookie around here. Therefore, Christie = Cookie = concert going/partying/adventure having pal. :) :) Veronica - -- *************************************************************************** "Every time I feel the urge to | Veronica Gruneberg exercise I lie down until it | Dept. of Biology goes away." - Mark Twain | Queen's University | Kingston, Ontario ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Nov 1999 22:41:11 -0500 From: "Kate Leahy" Subject: Re: brain droppings.... >>Now, when people try to get up and >>dance they either get escorted back to their seats by the ushers, or yelled >>at by fellow concert goers. Not everyone is capable of standing for six or more consecutive >hours. Actually, I was very much bothered by the people in the aisles. I'm not a puritan, but it was kinda dangerous, and obstructed a lot of views. It would have been fine just for Disco Bville, but IMO it kinda ruined Tenderloin. I brought my parents to the show *because* it was seated. They can't stand for a whole show. Also, my mother is diabetic, and I specifically requested seats on the aisle. Had those people *not* sat down, and there was an emergency, there could be a lot of problems. My opinion is this: the guys are starting to play more seated venues again, but they also still play non-seated venues. You have to roll with it; you can't treat a theater the was you treat a club - the etiquette isn't the same. Standing in your seat and dancing is one thing; taking sightlines away from people who paid early to have them is another. Many people were looking forward to being able to sit and enjoy the show and have a good line of sight. I was one of them, as were my parents. Sure we all stood at the end, but then we had been invited to :). ~~Kate - -- Kate Leahy kleahy@loyola.edu katiewow@fruhead.com *********************************** "It's a long long road It's a big big world We are wise wise women We are giggling girls . . . If anyone has either crash space or cheap motel recommendations (in Montreal *or* Ottawa, since I'm willing to drive two hours after the show), please email me by tomorrow, since I'm leaving town Wednesday. Also, because of rather poor planning, I still don't have a place to stay for the New York shows (which also involve November 30, since it's the "day off" and I'm not driving back here and then to New York) and preferably outside the city (so I don't have to think about driving or parking in the city :) yes, it's short notice because I'm leaving in two days. I thought the Keswick show 11/19 was outstanding! A very tasty setlist, lots of energy, fun banter, good sound, an exuberant crowd. Jian jokingly said "it's great to be back at the Trocadero", but clearly this was way better than being at the Troc, even if, as Mike pointed out in BJ Don't Cry, they didn't realize the Keswick was so far from Philly. I really enjoyed the way they opened the show, and I love to hear them sing Blow Wind Blow; and even though I am a Flyers fan, I still got a laugh out of Jian's verse that went something like this: I am the man, I'm a big hockey fan, I'm a regular Mike Myers, I love every team, except for one it seems, F*ck the Philly Flyers! And then as they went into the chorus, he said, "it's a joke". But, as Jian himself would say, those of us who have seen Moxy Fruvous before know something that those who haven't seen Fruvous before don't know. And that is that it was not a joke, he really does hate the Flyers. And that's fine, he's entitled to that opinion, just as I'm entitled as a Flyers fan to hate the NY Rangers. However, those of us who are Flyers fans should not take this lying down. After all, he's coming into Flyers territory and putting down our team. And consider that the show in Collingswood NJ 11/29 is just across the bridge from the building where the Flyers play (never mind that it is called the FU Center). So I'm calling on all Flyers fans who will be attending this show to wear your colors proudly that night! Flyers jerseys, Flyers hats, Flyers t-shirts, whatever you've got. If you don't have anything that says Flyers on it, wear something orange. We had a few Flyers jerseys on the front row in Wilmington 11/11/98; let's have a whole bunch of Flyers colors in the auditorium next Monday.
