Theoretically even some who live in the Cincinnati area? I have no idea how long it takes to get there from Pittsburgh (last time I was there was 9 and a half years ago) but I'm guessing about 5 and a half hours. If it turns out to be significantly less, I'll end up there really early. Since the last time a bunch of people showed up really early at a venue in Ohio, I figure this could be kind of fun, too, right? :) Also, (most importantly, actually :) I'll be needing crash space, preferably somewhere between Cincinnati and Charleston, since I'll be going to the Mountain Stage show the next day (assuming I can still get a ticket - if I can't, then crash space between Cincinnati and Pittsburgh is better :) (although depending on how far things really are, I might accept crash space as far north as Columbus or as far south as Lexington - it seems that there are no interstates that go conveniently from any city in Ohio to Charelston, WV, though...) um. that whole thing was parenthesized, wasn't it? And then I *think* that'll cover me for crash space and plans through Ottawa.... :) - -- lawrence solomon * http://www.fruhead.com/users/zaph * zaph@fruhead.com "You knew it was true, when I held you, there were no secrets. Here you go: Friday, November 5, 1999 The Canopy Club (on the UIUC Campus) 708 S Goodwin Urbana, IL 18+ doors 8pm opener 10 pm Fruvous 11:30 pm 217-367-3140 From Ticketmaster: JAY GOLDBERG PRESENTS MOXY FRUVOUS NO MOSH/BODY SURFING Internet Onsale: Thursday, Sep 9 1999, 5:00PM Charge-By-Phone #: 217/351-2626 This club is actually located in Urbana, not Champaign. For those unfamiliar with the area, Urbana is conveniently located adjacent to Champaign (they are for most practical purposes the same town) Interesting setup. It's a movie theater, but there are rows ripped out in front of the stage to form a dancing/standing/moshing area. There are still seats on the main floor, and there's also a "balcony" that will hold between 150 and 200 people. The club is on the east side of Goodwin, and that's where most of the decent (on-street) parking is. Directions: Coming in from the North or South on I-57, take the exit for I-74 East into Urbana. Coming from the East or West, you should already be on I-74. Get off at Lincoln Ave and go South. It's easy to tell if you are going the wrong way on Lincoln because if you are, you'll see nothing but corn. Okay so now you're heading south on Lincoln, looking at buildings (and still some corn too). Take that a couple miles to Green Street (it's a light) and turn right (there are both an Amoco and a Mobil station on this corner). Turn left at the next light (Goodwin Ave). The Canopy is just past the first stop-sign on the left. Parking should not be all hard to come by. My buds recorded the first 74 minutes of the show (minidisc style) so if you want a more complete setlist you'll get it soon enough... My friends were somewhat dissapointed with the first part of the show - claiming "it was too slow, the jokes weren't happening, and dave seemed to be on an entirely different level" (this led to some smoking banter that just wasn't flying with the people). They did however, say that the last part of the show was totally rockin... I tried to get a setlist out of them but that proved to be too difficult b/c they were more concerned with telling me what the lads *didn't* play than what they did.... Most entermusing part of the story i heard: Heh, apparently they started dissing on my hood (the bluebird is located on colfax "co-fak" st. - notorious for the shady nightlife, drugs, whores, and adult entertainment stores). Mind you, i grew up 3 blocks from the theater :P I guess the lads recognized that some of their jokes just weren't flying so they said: man you could've gone next door and gotten a video for $7.25 instead of this "entertainment" we're giving for $8. *grin* I miss home! :( After the show apparently someone called my posse the "Jordanites" - to which my friends all decided that they'd sing Jordan Knight (yeahyeah NKOTB!) the whole rest of the evening at all the cheeseball saturday night denver parties going on after the show. mmm hmm. heard a story about some fruitstripe gum and the grand tatoos - i'm sure kat can further that one. apparently Jian said he liked the venue. it's a good thing too because the bluebird was my second home :) they said that they'd be back in spring-summer time so i'll be sure to catch that show and can only hope that they'll play at the bluebird again... cant wait to catch 'em there! :) "take it easy, JOrdaN" http://www2.netcom.com/~arnot/joda/bootlegs.html http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Palladium/3404/frustuff.html ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. I can receive then though. Email me at work (bchavez@rippe.com) for more detail. Maybe someone else in the group may be able to use the info anyway I would say 5.5 hours from Pittsburgh to Cincinnati is pretty reasonable, depending on how you drive and what side of Pittsburgh you are coming from. I wouldn't expect it to be much shorter than that at all. Charleston is about 3.5 hours from Cincinnati. You will want to take I-471 South out of Cincy to I-275 South (or West? circle freeways are so confusing - anyway you want to stay in KY). The first exit after that is for the AA highway. This is a very good but isolated 2 lane (mostly) road. Stay on this until you get to Grayson, KY. Watch - there is a turn you must take, but it is well marked. It takes about 1.5 hours to get to Grayson, I think. At Grayson get on I-64 to Huntington, then Charleston WV. I been driving to Charleston for years and its definitely the best route. I'll be at the show. Look for a fat old fart.
