I don't recall that particular one. She didn't point out the songs titles though. And, as you can expect, since she was opening for a comedian, she had her share of hecklers. Someone's phone rang during on of her songs, and she was like, "I'm the opening act, that's what I'm here for. Give you the time to finish up all your important business before Steven comes on.". It was quite humorous. Another asked how long she's known Steven. She said, "He's a dear friend." Then paused, then said, "I've known him for about 2 weeks." I got a kick out of her. The last song she did was quite impressive, it was about women needing to live up to everyone's media-enhanced beauty standards. I definitely will send for her cd's. I didn't have the cash on me to buy them at the show (but I have a feeling she would have taken a personal check - after all, that is what she's doing with her PO box, right?) There is a HUGE difference! > > Adrianne Adrianne, My original statement was in no way intend to be an attack or accusation against African Americans. There is indeed a HUGE difference, however I don't think I'm wrong about my statistic. I do totally agree with you about the arrest thing. I think there is a WAY disproportionate number of blacks arrested in this country compared with the crimes that they commit. However it is nevertheless not untrue to say that African Americans (as a group, not as individuals) commit a disproportionate number of crimes. African Americans make up about 10% of the US population, however in 1996 38.9% of people incarcerated having been CONVICTED of crimes were African American. Now I will grant you that some people are probably wrongly convicted (especially if they are members of a minority), however if even half of the black people in prison were wrongly convicted (unlikely) and if of those supposed wrong convictions ALL of those crimes turned out to be actually committed by non-blacks (VERY unlikely) there would still be twice as many rightfully convicted African Americans in prison as we would expect to see given their population here. Given those facts I feel pretty safe in asserting the correctness of my original statement. (especially since my original point had nothing to do with crime or African Americans but instead was about the dangers of making generalizations about groups) I know a lot of people throw these facts around carelessly and create wrong impressions. However I do try not to do that. I'm sorry if I pissed you off.
