I don't think you're imagining it; it seems to me that Dave's voice is the one that's changed the most dramatically over the course of Bargainville-->Thornhill (never heard the indie tape, can't comment on that). My first Früvous album was Live Noise, and the second, Bargainville. Sure, they sounded a little younger in general, but comparing some of the songs that are on both CDs, it sounded like Dave was on helium or something. I love being a fan of Fruvous!! Especially in school when things go wrong with the phone line so we can't link up with the other class. Those are the days... Anyhow in bio class we had to do some extra reading because there was nothing else to do. And what should the two topics be but Photosynthesis and Entropy. No one could understand why I started giggling and tapping my foot. A similar thing happened in social class (where we did NOTHING of importance) while we were discussing the difference between mountain goats and sheep (don't ask) and then got on to the topic of Saddam Hussain (sp?). The inevitable happened and I started *singing* GWS (rather patheically, I've got the type of voice that you hear on books on tape except it never stays constant for more than 10 seconds at a time). When I started singing it I got a lot of weird looks then someone said "Oh that's that Fruvous thing again" Which got groans from half the class and "huh?" from the other half. Then we started discussing Canadian bands and the Cancon influence in the States (ie hearing the CBC in northern states) and got on to the workplace and the monopolizing of business so I couldn't resist a plug for Darlington Darling and Stuck in the 90's (only 116 days by my count!). By this time everyone had classified Fruvous as "one of those wierd things that only Cara can relate to." To set the record straight I said that there are lots of fans of Fruvous that are varied and not every one is a "socialist trivia loving nerd like me". Then they went back to discussing sheep and goats. However, one of my enlightened classmantes did come up to me later and asked if I happened to have any of that "Moxy stuff" on hand. I happened to have Thornhill in my bookbag and so I lent it to her. This is the first day in a while where I haven't let Thornhill out of my sight so I am anxiously awaiting for it back and for her feedback! BTW when she looked at the pic on the back she kind of stared at Jian for a bit and said "Well, maybe they won't be *that* bad." But convincing the rest of the world of the distinction can be like tilting at windmills. A Sisyphean task. etc. I've had this argument with too many people. I don't bother anymore. Let 'em call me and my friends what they want ... I guess I'm from the wrong point of view here, but still, there is something to be said about reasons for liking a band, especially one like Fruvous. 2) "I'm just wondering if the people in charge of the Black Swamp Festival have planned for all the groupies (Fruheads) that are going to be following the group here." - -I've heard this discussed here before. There is a tremendous difference between "groupie" and "fruhead". Groupie implies generally mindless following of some popular band because of how the lead singer looks or something like that. Fruheads, on the other hand, are known as very intelligent, devoted (if somewhat obsessive), and generally great people. Apologies to anyone who disagrees...
