When I first saw the subject header of this thread, I thought it must be about art history. See, apparently at one point, the most popular version of the Bible had a mistranslation: Rather than describing Moses as having "rays of light" emanating from his head, it said that "horns" emanated from it. So for quite a long time, many people believed that Moses (and by extension, all Jewish people) actually had horns. The most famous example of this is probably Michelangelo's sculpture of Moses. Another one I've seen in a textbook[1] is an illustration from the Bury Bible, credited to someone called "Master Hugo." Actually, I'd like to know what all of their vocal ranges are. I know they're all baritones, and that from highest to lowest it's Mike, Dave, Jian, and Murray. But I'm supposedly a soprano and I can sing along with all of them in their octave, except sometimes Murray. Also, this has nothing to do with anything, but I couldn't type that subject heading without hearing Phil Hartman saying it in my head. His trio has done other things as well. CDNow probably has a decent idea of what is generally available by Guaraldi. > Any suggestions would be welcome! Other jazz musicians? Hmmm. Some of my personal favorites are Charles Mingus and Thad Jones. Mingus is probably one of the most talented jazz musicians ever to live and is a superb piano and upright bass player. Thad is kinda trumpety sometimes, so the relax doesn't work so well for me though. J.J. Johnson is also very good to me. It's trombony and not trumpety, which is better on my ears. Django Reinhardt is also great, especially his work his Grapelli. Though the violin may not fall into soothing your nerves *grin* As for more modern stuff, check out Medeski Martin and Wood. They are incredible. Shackman is relaxing to me, with a nice groove along side. As for perfect sleep music, get the Princess Bride soundtrack done by Mark Knopfler. Perfect except for the jig that wakes me up around track 4 *Grin* - Chad ------------------------------ Date: 08 Sep 1999 18:28:31 GMT From: srm9988n@aol.comicrelief (Lori at fruhead dot com) Subject: Re: OT: Jazz Chad M. said: >J.J. I'm very sorry about the loss of your father. I lost my dad several years ago, but your interpretation adds a new level of appreciation for this song. I'll think of him next time I listen to it. (And I'll probably be dripping tears, too, but many times those tears are cathartic.) I think that again the variety of interpretations that people have for songs - -- and the way that the same song can feel different to the same listener depending on mood, circumstances, etc -- again proves that music is a means of reaching people at different levels, based largely on the perception of the listener. That's why reading the interpretations of songs is so fascinating to me. They help me to look at things in different ways and to expand my horizons. Music is an international language, but often there is a lot of sensitivity that needs to go into what different people are hearing. *Lois (Fogeyfru)--who hopes to meet several of you in person in BG on Saturday! ------------------------------ Date: 08 Sep 1999 19:54:12 GMT From: limezinger@aol.commmmmmmm (my friend goo) Subject: Re: caps/no caps (was Re: Wood typos) mr. lps+ (oops, i mean, zaph) wrote: >funny, though, when writing things out by hand, I'll always use standard >capitalization rules... i've found that too, actually.
